A father is explaining ethics to his son, who is about to go into business. “Suppose a woman comes in and orders a hundred dollars worth of material. You wrap it up, and you give it to her.
She pays you with a $100 bill. But as she goes out the door you realize she’s given you two $100 bills.
Now, here’s where the ethics come in: should you or should you not tell your partner?”
I would, but that is me. 🙂
I know you're honest Linda. 🙂
Since he is the business partner, then I would too.
Well there you go. 🙂
The concept of ethics has changed some since I was young but I believe that I would tell my partner. After all I'm in business for one reason which is sales and profit and I want my business partner to know I can turn a profit 🙂
We each approach this in our own way. 🙂
I would tell my partner and I agree with Ann good point
Have a businesstasticday Sandee :-h
It's a joke Steve. It is just a joke. 🙂
I would tell a partner but only after I tired to find the woman that gave the 2 100 dollar bills. It is way too hard to live a lie. Sandee, you and Zane have one wonderful day.
You're a nice person Marg, but I've always known that. 🙂
I would return the bill to the owner and not tell anyone.
Have a fabulous day. Big hugs times two, honey…
I know you would Sandy. Enjoy your cruise. 🙂
I would run after the woman who over paid, it's her money after all. That actually happened to me once. A woman put down a deposit on wedding flowers using brand new $100 bills that stuck together. I didn't realize it for several hours and I saw to it she got her money back.
It's happened to me before too and I returned the money. It's the right thing to do. 🙂
And this, son, is why you shouldn't have a partner — no such dilemma! Heeheehee!
Perhaps the young man got the right message here. We can hope. 🙂
Well I took it a different way than the commenters above, I thought it meant the owner was NOT going to stop the lady from leaving and give her back her money, he was going to pocket it (ethics violation). And HIS dilemma was if he was going to tell his wife or just keep it. Shame on him all the way around, but especially for sending that conflicted msg to his son, geez. lol!!!
Yes, we wasn't ethical one bit. 🙂
I would assume it was just a tip and not tell anyone.
Your readers do know this was not a serious ethics question don't they?
Well, they should know just by being on my site, but I don't think they got the humor in this. 🙂
Laughing…Oh, this is a good one. It's not clear, but I think the father's son was going into business for himself, right?
If this was a serious question, I would be loyal either way.
Have a great Saturday Sandee!
"Big Hugs" to you-
It's not a serious question at all. it was supposed to be funny, but it didn't quite make it. Big hugs back. 🙂
I'd run out into the parking lot and try to flag down the woman to give her the money back. If I couldn't get her and couldn't track her down, I'd hold onto it because she just might call and ask for it. But I'd def. tell the partner because it's the right thing to do. I'm guessing if someone didn't tell the partner, the woman would probably call and ask if she overpaid and the partner would find out anyway!
Many would just put the money in their pocket and move on. Many would. 🙂
I think he should buy an extraordinary good gift for his dog LOL 🙂
Well, there is a thought. The dog would be most happy. 🙂
I would Sandee, if I couldn't catch up with the lady as she is still leaving or should be close.
Have a nice weekend. 🙂
I would return the money too. It's an honest mistake. 🙂
I'd be chasing that woman down the street! Have a super day with Zane! Hugs all round!
I'd be running right along with you. 🙂
I don;t want anythiung that isn't mine or due me.The world weould be better off if everyone really believed that.
I'm with you on this. Too many takers out there. 🙂
It's not my money. I will return it to the owner.
I agree. I would do the same. 🙂
And that's the trouble with business ethics today!
Yep, it's dog eat dog anymore. 🙂
And here lies the world problems – although it was funny.
Exactly Rhonda. Dishonesty is so fashionable anymore. That and thugs. 🙁
