Ethics

personal-code-of-ethics-1-728A father is explaining ethics to his son, who is about to go into business. “Suppose a woman comes in and orders a hundred dollars worth of material. You wrap it up, and you give it to her.

She pays you with a $100 bill. But as she goes out the door you realize she’s given you two $100 bills.

Now, here’s where the ethics come in: should you or should you not tell your partner?”

The concept of ethics has changed some since I was young but I believe that I would tell my partner. After all I'm in business for one reason which is sales and profit and I want my business partner to know I can turn a profit 🙂

I would tell a partner but only after I tired to find the woman that gave the 2 100 dollar bills. It is way too hard to live a lie. Sandee, you and Zane have one wonderful day.

I would run after the woman who over paid, it's her money after all. That actually happened to me once. A woman put down a deposit on wedding flowers using brand new $100 bills that stuck together. I didn't realize it for several hours and I saw to it she got her money back.

Well I took it a different way than the commenters above, I thought it meant the owner was NOT going to stop the lady from leaving and give her back her money, he was going to pocket it (ethics violation). And HIS dilemma was if he was going to tell his wife or just keep it. Shame on him all the way around, but especially for sending that conflicted msg to his son, geez. lol!!!

Laughing…Oh, this is a good one. It's not clear, but I think the father's son was going into business for himself, right?

If this was a serious question, I would be loyal either way.

    Have a great Saturday Sandee!

    "Big Hugs" to you-

I'd run out into the parking lot and try to flag down the woman to give her the money back. If I couldn't get her and couldn't track her down, I'd hold onto it because she just might call and ask for it. But I'd def. tell the partner because it's the right thing to do. I'm guessing if someone didn't tell the partner, the woman would probably call and ask if she overpaid and the partner would find out anyway!
