Wordless Wednesday

WW is a simple blog post featuring a photo which conveys a message that speaks for itself without using words.

For all the rule breakers, of which I am one, please feel free to add all the words you want.

Make sure you leave a link to your post and I’ll visit your Wordless Wednesday post.

Our nation’s first president did try his hand at whiskey making. After leaving the presidency in 1797, the founding father spent some of his retirement planting rye around his Mount Vernon estate and soon had a full-blown distillery underway, producing 11,000 gallons of whiskey in 1799, the year he died, making it the largest whiskey distillery in America at that time. I did not know such details. I always learn things from you.
But I have to admit that I do not like this drink as taste, only as color…
Happy WW, dear Sandee! Have a fabulous day and week! Hugs
and than you for the Blog hop!❤️😘

I knew that Thomas Jefferson was into wine making (I visited the site of his winery, which is also a winery today, near Charlottesville, Virginia years ago) but didn’t know about Washington’s rye venture. Time to read up on it. Alana ramblinwitham

I was very surprised about this. You’re welcome on the hosting. My pleasure. You have a great day too, Ellen. Scritches to the kitties. 🙂

  4. Eastside Cats Blog says:

Both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew cannabis too.
Believe the caretakers of Monticello have uncovered the distillery there, and were planning on producing some fiery liquid to sell some day.

I have to say what everyone else is saying…I had NO idea at all about that. And a distillery too! I’ ll absolutely have to research him! Seriously. Happy Wednesday to you! xx

  6. CatSynth says:

I remember an NPR article about this a few years back, and how they had revived the recipe. I enjoy whiskey, so I’ve been curious to try this at some point.

    Happy WW!

    • Sandee says:

I’m not a whiskey fan, but I’d take a taste of his whiskey. Happy Wordless Wednesday. Thanks for linking up and for hosting this fun hop. 🙂

Fascinating! I did not know that about George Washington! There is a lot about famous persons that we don’t know even when their lives seem to be in the spotlight. I love this bits of information/trivia. Thank you Sandee.

Happy Wordless Wednesday, dear friend. Peace to you.

Interesting fact. Not a fan of whisky unless it’s mixed with Sprite to make it sweeter. Have a great week Sandee.

  9. Mr. Ohh's Sideways View says:

Washington was also said to have never wanted the presidency. So! What you’re saying is Washington helped create a country, tried to lead it. Then when he saw what it was, got the heck out of Dodge and needed 11,000 gallons of whiskey to forget. 🤣😎🙃

  10. The OP Pack says:

That is a very interesting fact. Mom is not a whiskey lover. She really doesn’t enjoy the hard liquor that much; she is more of a sweet white wine gal:)

I am another one that didn’t know that! I used to drink Irish whiskey when I was younger, but now prefer gin.

At first glance, I thought this was a glass of cola which I certainly prefer over whiskey. 🙂 Interesting tidbit on George Washington, though.
