Wordless Wednesday

WW is a simple blog post featuring a photo which conveys a message that speaks for itself without using words.

For all the rule breakers, of which I am one, please feel free to add all the words you want.

How Horses Breathe

Horses don’t have an instinct to breathe through their mouths because their soft palate seals their pharynx except when swallowing. Horses can’t breathe through a sealed pharynx, and that is why they only breathe through their nostrils. Source: facts.net

Absolutely beautiful the image! And I did not now anything about how they breathe.
But I’ve read that is healthier to breathe only through our nose.
Hugs, dear Sandee! Happy WW and a fine week!❤️😘

Gorgeous horse – I didn’t know about the breathing thing for them – interesting indeed. Many years ago I had riding lessons and learned to absolutely ADORE their intelligence. I love their graceful beauty too!

    Hugs, Pam

Intresting fact about horses, Sandee. They’re amasing creatures😺 Double Pawkisses for a Happy Day and Week ahead to you, Zane and the kitties too🐾😽💞 Ps we hope you had a wonderful anniversary🩷

    • Sandee says:

They are amazing creatures indeed. I love riding in my younger years. Double Pawkisses to you both and a big hug to your wonderful Granny. 🐾😽💞

That is a beautiful image. At last, something I did know! I have ridden since I was 5 and cared for horses including my own since the mid 70s. I don’t have any of my own now but we still rent stables and field keep for people on a DIY basis, whereas once I used to do it for them.

You’re the first comment that knows about this. You’re so smart, Jackie. I love horses. They are so smart and loving. Hugs to you, my friend. 🙂

I did not know that. I will be seeing a lot of horses when my great-nieces go back to their lessons soon. Thanks for hosting. Have a nice day. XO

    • Sandee says:

I didn’t know this either. Funny how you can be around horses and not know this. Happy Wednesday, Ann. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to Gibbs. 🙂

  6. Carole Schulman says:

I never ever knew that! I am sending this to the family because they don’t know it either I am positive. How do they race or just run around like that!?

  7. carol mckenna says:

Wow! I did not know that. It makes sense now I have seen vet tv shows where they pay special attention to the horse’s nostrils when tending to the horse and or its young. Thank for this great bit of info and the beautiful photo. Have a lovely Wordless Wednesday, Sandee

  9. CAAC says:

What a beautiful horse! I love to see these creatures but don’t have a desire to ride them unlike so many others. Your factoid is something I didn’t know but found very interesting. Thanks for sharing! xo

    • Sandee says:

I loved riding in my younger years. I’d have a hard time getting on a horse anymore. They are beautiful creatures though. Happy Wednesday and rest of the week, my friend. 🙂

  10. messymimi's meanderings says:

They are amazing creatures and I do enjoy riding and spending time with horses. I knew they couldn’t breathe through their mouths but I had no clue why. Thank you for teaching me something today.

I pray you and Mr. Zane have a blessed and beautiful rest of the week. Scritches to Lil’ Bit and Squeaker.

    • Sandee says:

I didn’t know this at all and was around horses in my younger years. Love and hugs, my friend. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week. 🙂

Lol. Sandee… City girl here. The first time I saw a horse laying down I thought it was dead and made my friend (who’s family was from the south) turn around to go check on it! The horse was sleeping, of course, and everybody had a good laugh, them more than me. Lol. I thought horses slept standing up! So, no big surprise, I didn’t know horses couldn’t breathe out of their mouths either, but hey, at least I’m not the only one! Lol. – Happy Wednesday, Sandee, sending you big, big hugs! Love you. <3

This is great, Sandee! I love it- My parents had a boarding stables when I was a child, so I was on the back of a horse by the time I was three. That is until I became a teenager, and avoided my parents at all costs. They are amazing animals, and it doesn’t surprise me that you know that. One morning awhile back, I woke up feeling down, and the following words came to me: ” Lost inside a state of mental and physical exhaustion, I prayed to meet an angel on earth, then, I felt the pillow of a horses mouth gently sweep grass from the palm of my hand.” – Ann Clemmons I miss you, and I hope you remember that I’m working on our book:)

    • Sandee says:

It’s great to hear from you. What a beautiful story on your youth with horses. I do know you’re working on our book. Love you, Ann. 🙂

  13. Wing Commander Basil & The B Team says:

How fascinating, the P.A. didn’t know this and she had horses for 25 years! Happy Caturday, thank mew so much for adding our links this week, and just to let mew know Chapter 24 and the Epilogue of The Purrminator are live on the blog today.

    • Sandee says:

I didn’t know this either and I was around horses for years in my youth. You’re welcome for the links. Always want to make sure your posts are there. Scritches to all the kitties and a big hug to you. 🙂
