Iceland
Iceland went through a prohibition of beer which began in 1915 and ended in 1989 after a referendum vote by the population. Now, every March 1st, the country celebrates “Bjórdagurinn” or “Beer Day” commemorating the end of a 74-year beer ban. Source: The Real World

Beer? Here in Bavaria is beer each day on the table like bread.
Thank you for sharing and for hosting. Greetings by Heidrun ❤️
I hear you. Different places have different traditions. Happy day and rest of the week, Heidrun. 🙂
To your health!!!! Cin cin!!!! Salut!!!
To your health, too. Happy day and rest of the week. 🙂
Beer over wine any day. Cheers!
Bah, não sabia dessa proibição! Linda 4 feira! beijos, chica
I didn’t know about this either. Happy day and rest of the week, Chica. Hugs. 🙂
Beer is one thing I can do without. I never could stand the taste or even the smell of it. Both husbands would have definitely been up to celebrating beer day though.
I love beer with pizza and Mexican food, but only one. Have a great day, Ann. Scritches to Gibbs. 🙂
That’s interesting fact “Beer Day”
Keep sharing.
Beer Day is a good thing. Happy day and rest of the week. Thanks for playing along. 🙂
If beer was prohibited, what about other alcohol? Cheers to Wednesday!
I don’t know. It just mentioned beer. Happy Wednesday and rest of the week. Scritches to the pups. 🙂
Interesting facts about beer. Here’s to ya! 🍻Happy Wednesday!
I agree. Happy day and rest of the week, Eugenia. Hugs. 🙂
Yikes, that is one long drought.
It sure was. Have a great day and rest of the week. Thanks for playing along. 🙂
Just beer? So they still had wine and hard liquor? Sounds like someone was heavily invested in those other alcohols. I know of a place in Mississippi where the mayor owned a liquor store, and beer was banned in that city!
No mention of hard liquor. I never even thought of that. Interesting fact about the mayor and his liquor store. 🙂
Some very interesting Icelandic history!
Yes indeed. Happy day and rest of the week. Scritches to the kitties. 🙂
That was a strange prohibition me thinks!
You’re right about that. Happy day and rest of the week, Terry. Scritches to the kitties. 🙂
Interesting. Mom is not a beer drinker!
I like a good beer with pizza and Mexican food. Just one though. Happy day and rest of the week. 🙂
I didn’t know about that. Maybe if the US did that there would be a lot less domestic abuse. Thanks for hosting. Have a nice day. XO
Booze is abused by many. I agree with you. Have a great day. Scritches to the kitties. 🙂
The beer ban must have had support to last for 74 years.
It sure did. There was beer though. As soon as you ban something there is a supply chain to fill the void. 🙂
Wow…that is a lot of time without beer!
I sure was. I’ll bet there was bootleg beer. Scritches to the pups. 🙂
Very interesting, so I’ll have a beer and contemplate it. 🤣😎🙃
Hubby and I will have one with you. Well said. 🙂
Cheers, Sandee. I can not imagine a ban on beer far less for that long. Thanks for great trivia. As always, I learned something new.
Happy Wordless Wednesday, dear friend. Peace to you!
I had no idea either. Banning something never works. Love and hugs, my sweet friend. 🙂
Well said, dear friend…”banning something never works…” Love and hugs back to you too. Thank you..
That’s a long prohibition! I had no idea. I’m sure the people of Iceland are much happier now. 🍺 Have a lovely day, Sandee! Thanks for hosting WW.
I’m sure they are much happier, too. Have a great day and rest of the week, Debbie. Thanks for playing along. 🙂
Wow! That’s a long ban. Beer day sounds like fun!
Happy Wednesday! Love and hugs, my sweet friend. xo
I love a beer now and then. With pizza and Mexican food. Just one though. Happy day and rest of the week. Love and hugs, Kymber. 🙂
I wonder if the beer is ice- and ice cold…MOL…Double Pawkisses for a Happy Day and Week ahead, Sandee, Zane and your two sweeties too🐾😽😻
I don’t know. I love your sense of humor. Double Pawkisses to you both and a big hug to Granny. 🙂
Somehow, I never thought of Ireland banning beer. Did they ban pizza & brawts too? I would have thought beer was the only thing that would effectively wash down the taste of haggis! Just sayin.
You made me laugh out loud. Thank you for that. Have a great day and rest of the week, my friend. Scritches to Miss Lucy. 🙂
Ummm, Ireland… Iceland??😉 Ireland banning beer would be like the Vatican electing a Muslim pope!😂
You made me laugh out loud. Happy day and rest of the week. 🙂
We enjoy New Castle Brown ale (neither of us like beer). I keep 2 mugs in my freezer makes for a refreshing summer cool down
Hugs Cecilia
I have a beer with pizza and Mexican food. Just one and it’s most delicious. Happy day and rest of the week. Love and hugs, my friend. 🙂
Neat Iceland info but that photo of the Beer looks very inviting on a summer day ~ thanks ~ Hugs ^_^
Hugs and love to you from me and Ziggy ~ xo
It sure does. Nothing better than a cold beer with pizza or Mexican food. Love and hugs to you and Ziggy. 🙂
I love a cold beer in the summertime! Cheers to Iceland!
I do too and especially when I’m having pizza or Mexican food. Happy day and rest of the week. 🙂
Wow, their experiment with prohibition lasted a lot longer than ours!
But I’m glad my Icelandic friends can now enjoy a beer whenever they wish. Cheers 🍻
I’m happy for them too. That’s a long time to go without a beer. 🙂
Nice looking mug of beer. Too bad I don’t drink any more. Interesting about the Iceland beer vote. We finally got it here after being dry forever, and can now buy it at the grocery store. Hope your Wednesday is going good <3
We sure drink a lot less. The older we get the less we partake. Happy day and rest of the week, my friend. 🙂
That’s interesting. I prefer wine, but beer on a hot day is good too.
I like both and in moderation. Happy day and rest of the week, Yvonne. Scritches to the kitties. 🙂
Bravo Iceland. On a hot day like today, a cold brewski sounds pretty doggone refreshing!
It sure does. Happy day and rest of the week. Love and hugs to you and scritches to handsome Wilson. 🙂
Interesting tidbit! I didn’t even know anyplace in the world in 80s was still under prohibition. Not that it would affect me any one way or the other, if it applied to me because honestly I don’t like the taste or smell of beer. I suppose it’s an acquired tasted. 🙂
I didn’t know either. It’s an acquired taste. Happy rest of the week. Love and hugs. 🙂
Mom is not a beer drinker, but if they will allow a nice glass of Riesling, she will join in the celebration.
Woos – Misty and Timber
I’d love to join you. Scritches to the pups. 🙂
Good morning, Sandee. Thank you for this #WW party. Enjoy your week.
On our recent vacation found a wonderful beer, and enjoyed it tremendously. Now I need to see if we can find it locally.
My entries: #48+49
Hope you will join and link up at https://esmesalon.com/wordlesswednesday/
Let me know what kind of beer. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week. Thank you for all you do. 🙂
You can try to keep people sober, but if they want to drink they will find a way.
You and Mr. Zane have a blessed and beautiful week, scritches to Lil’ Bit and Squeaker.
Banning things just make it more popular for many. You’re right about if they want to drink they will find a way. Happy day and rest of the week, my friend. Love and hugs. 🙂
Never a good idea to ban things, just makes it more fun to find a way to defy the ban.
Thanks for entering my post about Istanbul.
You’re absolutely right. Happy day and rest of the week. 🙂
What a fascinating bit of history!
Imagine 74 years without beer!
Glad they now have a day to celebrate.
I can’t imagine. Banning doesn’t work. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week. 🙂
What a fascinating bit of history!
Imagine 74 years without beer!
Glad they now have a day to celebrate.
I can’t. I’m sure there was bootleg beer. 🙂
The end of a beer ban is certainly something to celebrate! Happy Wednesday, Sandee! 🙂
It sure is. Happy Wednesday and rest of the week. Thank you for all you do. 🙂
That’s something to celebrate!
It sure is. Happy day and rest of the week. Scritches to the kitties. 🙂
Una buena cerveza fresquita. Me alegra llegar a tu blog. Dejo mi enlace. Un abrazo

Thank you for playing along. It’s nice to meet you. Welcome. 🙂
Some of the speakeasy’s I’ve seen on social media are kind of cool looking. I bet it was as hard to keep alcohol away from people then as it is to keep kids off their phones now (spoken like a true teacher). 😉
I think you’re right. Happy day and rest of the week. 🙂
I lived in Iceland for 18 months. Thank God there was plenty of beer. Icelanders really can party it up, let me tell you. They’ll get drunk, fight you, and then they treat you like a brother at the end of the evening. They’re like Klingons, that way.
I had no idea. Yikes. All fun except the fighting. Happy weekend. 🙂
That’s wild! I bet there were some home brewers around. 😉 I’m glad they didn’t end up with decades of violent mafia and gangs. ~sigh~ Hugs, my dear.
Bootlegers where open for business very quickly. Hugs, my friend. 🙂
