Wordless Wednesday

WW is a simple blog post featuring a photo which conveys a message that speaks for itself without using words.

For all the rule breakers, of which I am one, please feel free to add all the words you want.

Make sure you leave a link to your post and I’ll visit your Wordless Wednesday post.

Originally, the Eiffel Tower was going to be erected in Barcelona, but the project was rejected because citizens thought it was an eyesore. Source: The Fact Site

The Eiffel tower is a great engineering achievement. Paris was very wise to embrace its construction way back then. Great trivia as always, Sandee. Thank you. Happy Wordless Wednesday. Much love to you.

Strange how an eyesore, located somewhere else, became a beloved symbol of a city, Paris. I wonder if Barcelona feels regret. Alana ramblinwitham

I am happy to say I have been up to the Eiffel Tower.
Unfortunately not a long visit. It was in April 1969 there were student protests going on in Paris. The chaperones of our group of 19 years olds. Rushed us out of the hotel at 6 am on to a bus to make a quick trip to the Eiffel Tower. We had plans to stay in Paris for 4 days but only stayed 24 hours then on to Englang.
    Hugs Cecili

Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. What Spain thought was an eyesore the world thought was engineering genius.

  5. Kitties Blue says:

I am afraid of heights so when I was in Paris in the summer of 1965 going to school, I never went up it. However, when Dad Tom and I went to Paris several years ago, I braved it. The painting makes it look much more beautiful than it is. But still, it is a very cool structure. Thanks for linking us up. I had the privilege of seeing it up close when I was in Paris. I didn’t know that bit about Barcelona, but I knew it wasn’t universally welcomed in Paris, either. It’s interesting how there is often resistance to new buildings that are different, but then people grow to love them over time.

  7. Lydia C. Lee says:

They thought it was an eyesore in France too, initially – it was meant to be only up for a year. But then there were protests to keep it.

Interesting information. I don’t know much about it, but I’ve seen it when I was in Paris one time, from a distance at least. I was at the Orly airport. I’ve been to the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas though! And Paris Texas 🙂
    Have a fun Wednesday! <3
