WW is a simple blog post featuring a photo which conveys a message that speaks for itself without using words.
For all the rule breakers, of which I am one, please feel free to add all the words you want.

Prohibition
Frustrated that people continued to consume so much alcohol even after it was banned, federal officials had decided to try a different kind of enforcement. They ordered the poisoning of industrial alcohols manufactured in the United States, products regularly stolen by bootleggers and resold as drinkable spirits. The idea was to scare people into giving up illicit drinking. Instead, by the time Prohibition ended in 1933, the federal poisoning program, by some estimates, had killed at least 10,000 people. Linking up with a bunch of fantastic peeps from the blogosphere who host Wordless Wednesday – Betty, Steve, image-in-ing, Keith, Senior Salon, Esme Salon, CatSynth, and Suzana.

A turbulent time in history but I imagine all those “illegal” parties were something else!! At least until they introduced poison………
Hugs, Pam
When you ban something it drives it underground. It’s the way of things. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to handsome Teddy. 🙂
That was an extreme way to try and enforce Prohibition, and a lot of deaths as a result!
I can’t imagine taking that approach. It sure didn’t work. Happy rest of the week, Jackie. Love and hugs. 🙂
From my perspective any interdictions could generate more harm, than solving a problem.
And the idea of poisoning is horrible. How do we know what they put in… everything we eat?
There are so many people ill and dependent of medicine…
Happy WW, dear Sandee! Hugs and a fine week with a deep thinking!❤️😘
I agree with you, Suzana. Not the way to approach this issue at all. Hugs for a happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week. 🙂
What a horrible thing to have done. Law enforcement is one thing. Intentionally hurting or killing people is quite another. Alana ramblinwitham
These were feds that did this. What a shameful thing to do. Happy Wordless Wednesday. 🙂
Thanks a lot for sharing.
You’re most welcome. Happy Wednesday. Thanks for linking up. 🙂
I did not know this. Wow. That’s something to think about.
I didn’t know this either. What a shameful way to approach this issue. 🙂
That is a terrible thing to do! It sure was a different time I guess.
It was a different time and a terrible thing to do. Happy Wordless Wednesday. Scritches to the pups. 🙂
What an awful way to try and enforce prohibition. Obviously not very effective either.
It got about 10,000 people to quit drinking. An awful way indeed. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week, Ann. 🙂
I never knew about this. That was an incredibly extreme way to enforce prohibition.
Very extreme. So very sad, too. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week, my friend. 🙂
Thank you, Sandee. I hope you have a great week, too! 🙂
Poisoning people is awful, however, not surprising in order to enforce prohibition. Happy Wednesday. Hugs!
Didn’t work at all. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week, Eugenia. Hugs. 🙂
🥂
That is awful. I had never heard that before. Thanks for hosting. Have a great day. XO
I didn’t know this either and it’s very awful. Have a great day and rest of the week, Ellen. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to the kitties. 🙂
I never heard about that before.
I didn’t know this either. Have a great day and rest of the week, my friend. 🙂
I never knew this. How awful to poison people.
Makes you wonder who came up with this horrible idea. Happy Wednesday, Duke. My best to your mom. 🙂
OMD! I hope this doesn’t come to the attention of the current admin as a possible answer to some things.
It was the last administration that scared me to death. Happy Wordless Wednesday. Scritches to the pups. 🙂
I never knew that!
Me either. Frightening. Happy Wordless Wednesday. Scritches to the kitties. 🙂
Whoa…what a boneheaded puritanical solution. Sometimes, it makes you wonder about the people who think this stuff up. Thanks for sharing a historical slice of government gone bad.
I agree with you. Government gone bad indeed. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to Wilson. 🙂
What Monika said…it’s horrible to think what the government is capable of doing!
I agree. Happy Wordless Wednesday. Scritches to the pups. 🙂
Oh my goodness, that is horrible.
Happy Wordless Wednesday! Love and hugs, Sandee.
It sure is horrible. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week, Kymber. Love and hugs. 🙂

Hugs x 4

Yikes is right. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week. Love and hugs, my friend. 🙂
What a terrible thing to do! 😲 Mass murder really. I had no idea, and I hope nothing like this ever happens again. Thanks for the education, Sandee, and for hosting this link party.
A terrible thing indeed. I can’t imagine how someone came up with this terrible idea. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week, Debbie. 🙂
Ugh, that is exceptionally awful. The more I learn about Prohibition, the more I detest it.
That makes two of us. When you make something illegal it drives it underground and then many bad things happen. Happy Wordless Wednesday. 🙂
Goes to show, our government is out to get us; they did it back then, and they still do it by allowing manufacturers to put additives and carcinogens in our food.
Sorry, a bit of a rant.
I agree with you. We’re on the same page. Happy Wednesday and rest of the week. 🙂
Events in history and now show the inhumane things done by USA government ~ when does it end ~ quite the photo ~

I had completely forgotten about the poisoning program, thanks for sharing the interesting information!
I didn’t know about this at all. I was shocked. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week, my friend. Scritches to the kitties. 🙂
Such an interesting time in American history. Thanks for highlighting it. Also, thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
It sure was. You have a wonderful rest of the week, Patrick. 🙂
And the government hasn’t changed with the mandated for many Covid shots which we know many have died from or are now at greater health risks than ever! shake head in disgust Interesting factoid which I didn’t know.
You’re right about that, Cathy. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week. Love and hugs. 🙂
Oh my goodness, that’s terrible. How have I never heard of this before? In theory, a sneaky idea but it’s also mass murder.
They have ways to hide much of what they do. Yes, mass murder. 🙂
This is appalling & I never knew! Thank you for enlightening me. We live in northeast Georgia, & there’s an old moonshine still on our property. ❤️ Kit, Kat, Rocky & Cali
Great to hear from you. Love you and your kitties. 🙂
how nice of a government.
Yes, bless their hearts. Have a great day and rest of the week, Klara. 🙂
They’re things I need to be Prohibition from.
Happy WW
Same here. Happy week. 🙂
Banning seldom works. I hope you and Mr. Zane have a blessed week! Scritches to Lil’ Bit and Squeaker.
Banning never works. Love and hugs to you and Mr. Sweetie. The kitties thank you for the scritches. 🙂
A shocking piece of history!
It’s crazy to think how far officials went to try and stop drinking during Prohibition.
Happy Thursday, Sandee!
Very shocking. So very sad, too. Happy rest of the week, Veronica. 🙂
I did not know this. What kind of thought process would consider such an idea and then implement it? Thank you Sandee for this insight.
Have a lovely week. Much love to you.
Amazing, isn’t it. So sad. Hugs. 🙂
10k people and they probably were not held accountable for their murders. I’m not a drinker but that’s just awful. One of those shocking facts you cannot even fathom how it would have taken place.
I’m from the government and I’m here to help. Never bought that lie. Happy rest of the week, my friend. 🙂
Prohibition was one of the stupidest thing we ever did. You can’t legislate morality. 🤣😎🙃
You’re right about that, my friend. Happy day and rest of the week. 🙂
Can`t imagine for today… what turbulent times. Thank you for hosting, dear blogfriend.
Yes, indeed. It’s always been turbulent times. They can’t seem to hide their malice anymore. 🙂
I knew about prohibition but I had no idea they went as far as to poisoning alcohol. A really interesting post, Sandee.
It’s amazing their take on getting people to quit drinking. Just kill them. Goodness. 🙂
Ah, yes. Another wonderful government agency at work. Grrr… Best wishes, my dear.
I’m from the government and I’m here to help. Hugs, my friend. 🙂
Dad’s just sitting here shaking his head after reading about this.
I did the very same thing. Happy weekend. Scritches to Sumdge. 🙂
