Scotty’s Castle
Scotty’s Castle (also known as Death Valley Ranch) is a two-story Mission Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival style villa located in the Grapevine Mountains of northern Death Valley in Death Valley National Park, California, US. Scotty’s Castle is named for gold prospector Walter E. Scott, although Scott never owned it, nor is it an actual castle.
The ranch is located about 45 miles (72 km) north of Stovepipe Wells, California, via California State Route 190 to Scotty’s Castle Road, or about a three-hour drive from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Scotty’s Castle was severely damaged by flooding in October 2015, and a fire in 2021 that destroyed the historic garage/workshop that was used as the visitor center. Scotty’s Castle is temporarily closed to the public. Source: Wikipedia

LQQKS amazing it’s history is interesting it’s been through a lot 🙂
Have a scottytastic week and WWS and thanks for hosting 👍
Lots of famous people went there for events and weekends. 🙂
What a beautiful ranch!
Hubby and I went there in the mid 90s. It was an amazing place. 🙂
What a fascinating ranch. It may not be an actual castle but it resembles one in parts.
It’s a huge place and so beautiful. 🙂
They have had a couple of really bad luck moments. Glad it’s still standing. I hope it is able to be opened to the public again (if that’s what they want). Wishing you a happy day!
They are working on it. Happy Wordless Wednesday. 🙂
Geez, they had a double whammy! Hope they can get it all restored and back open one day.
They did, but it’s an amazing place to visit. I hope it opens soon. 🙂
Interesting part of Death Valley National Park.
Thanks!
It sure is. I’m glad hubby and I got to visit in the 90s. 🙂
Who would have ever expected there to be a pseudo castle in Death Valley? Thanks for introducing me to another bit of history. It looks awesome — must be a good tourist trap.
We didn’t know until we got there. We had to see it and we enjoyed it very much. 🙂
What a beautiful looking place, I do love learning the history behind interesting buildings, hopefully it can be restored and opened to the public one day xxx
There are many articles about this place. Most fascinating. 🙂
What an amazing part of California’s rich and storied history. I hope they can recover from the flooding and fire. Have a great Wednesday, Sandee!😊
I’m sure they will. They are working on it. 🙂
It’s a shame about the flooding, that’s a beautiful place.
It is indeed. Inside and out and it’s a huge place. 🙂
At first glance, my eyes only see a southwest-style villa and it’s the tower component of the architectural design that makes you think castle. That’s quite interesting. I wonder what inspired this?
I don’t know, but it sure is an interesting place. We enjoyed our visit. 🙂
Beautiful place!
It’s very beautiful. A rich history too. 🙂
What an interesting historic building and a shame that it had to close to the public. Maybe it’s the castle like turret that earned it its name. One can hope it reopens one day. Alana ramblinwitham
It’s a great place to explore. Takes a long time to get there so it’s very remote. 🙂
Wow! How interesting and thank you for sharing, Sandee. Happy Wednesday.
Perhaps it will be open when we visit Death Valley next January. 🙂
What a gorgeous building. I love that style architecture.
Hugs Cecilia
It’s a most interesting place. We enjoyed it very much. Hugs. 🙂
Hope they will be able to reopen it someday. Thanks for hosting. Have a great day. XO
I’m sure they will. It’s a popular place. 🙂
Hopefully they’ll get everything fixed up and can reopen soon.
It would be nice if it’s open in January when we visit Death Valley. 🙂
so beautiful and historical, sorry to hear it was damaged not once, but twice.
It’s a fabulous place to spend a good part of a day. 🙂
Interesting place. Happy Wednesday <3
We had no clue it was there until we got to Death Valley. 🙂
Here, in Arizona, you have Cliff Castle Casino where you can visit where your money went.
You crack me up, Kismet. I love you. 🙂
That looks like a good place for the zoomies.
A very good place for the zoomies. Lots and lots of room. 🙂
It looks lovely. I hope they can reopen it one day.
I hope so too. I would go again. 🙂
Hoping it reopens soon. What a cool ranch. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
It sure is a cool ranch. You have a wonderful rest of the week, Patrick. 🙂
Lovely place ~ hope it opens again soon ~ thanks,
Lots of hugs and love to you from me and Ziggy ~ Xos

I would go back to visit if it opens. Fun place to explore. 🙂
I have been to Death Valley many times (a special place for me), but I have never been to Scotty’s Castle – it’s been closed each time for all the reasons. But I’m glad it’s still there and hopefully one day I will get to see it in person.
By complete coincidence I also have a castle in the desert this week for WW 😺
Someone told us about Scotty’s Castle when we visited in the 90s and we were there the next day. It’s way up into the foothills. 🙂
What a beautiful ranch/castle. I hope they open it up again soon.
It’s very isolated from the main drag. Long way up into the foothills. 🙂
Talk about beautiful architecture!
It’s a most beautiful place. Hug to you and scritches to Elsa. 🙂
wow….love the history. Thanks for sharing.
Death Valley is rich in history. 🙂
Fascinating. Good it wasn’t damaged even worse.
You’re right about that. Thanks for playing along, Klara. 🙂
Yeah, I’ll be avoiding Death Valley for the time being!
It’s hot enough in Michigan.
It’s hot in the summer, but wonderful in the winter. 🙂
We hope they can repair the castle so it can reopen. It looks like a very special place to visit.
Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber
We had such a great time there. A beautiful place. Scritches to the pups and especially Misty. 🙂
Beautiful castle! Thanks for hosting this blog hog
It sure is and maybe it will be open when we visit next January. 🙂
It would be a lovely place to visit, if they can get it repaired and reopened.
I pray you and Mr. Zane have a blessed and beautiful weekend, hugs!
We enjoyed exploring here in the mid 90s. A really cool place with a rich history. 🙂
Looks like an amazing place to visit.
Glad you got to see it.
Happy Thursday, Sandee.
It was an amazing place. I can’t imagine living out in the middle of nowhere though. 🙂
Did you manage to go there, yet, Sandee Darling. I have missed you my beautiful friend.
Hugs and kisses. Thank you for hosting and taking time to swing by and shower your love always.

Wow!
Wonderfull pseudo castle.
It is indeed. I’m glad hubby and I got to explore here. 🙂
What a shame about the damaged. Will it be redone to its former glory?
Thank you for sharing your links with us at #274 SSPS Linky. See you again next week.
They say it will reopen and I hope that’s true. See you next week, my friend. 🙂
What a magnificent building. A castle that’s not a castle – I like that!
It’s a fun place to explore. I hope it opens again. 🙂

It’s worth the visit. A beautiful place to explore. 🙂
It is so pretty! I am sure it would be stunning inside as well.
It’s different look inside. I wouldn’t like it, but many would. 🙂
I was thinking this looked like a Death Valley ranch, and sure enough. Interesting.💕
It’s a beautiful place to explore. 🙂
How cool! Thanks for sharing. Hugs, my dear.
I agree. Hugs back, Darla. 🙂
