WW is a simple blog post featuring a photo which conveys a message that speaks for itself without using words.

The Eierland Lighthouse is a lighthouse on the northernmost tip of the Dutch island of Texel. It is named for the former island Eierland.

History

The lighthouse was designed by Quirinus Harder and construction began on 25 July 1863. The lighthouse was built on top of a 20-metre high sand dune, and was lit on 1 November 1864. At that time, the distance from the lighthouse to the sea was 3 kilometres.

During the Georgian Uprising of Texel of April 1945 the lighthouse suffered heavy damage. It was repaired by constructing a new wall around it and a new upper-level construction. In this process the lighthouse lost two of its original nine storeys.

During the 1990s the lighthouse, including the very top and the lamp, was open for visitors. Closed for a while, it was reopened in 2009 and is accessible up to the sixth floor. Source: Wikipedia

I love seeing lighthouses. I thought it looked a lot different to the other American lighthouses I had seen and then saw Little Binky’s comment. It is more like the British lighthouses too.

I’m with Nancy. I want to follow that path and get a closer look. I first thought that was a dirt path leading to the lighhouse but the more I looked I realized it’s brick.

    Sandee,

I love lighthouses! This is a beautiful photograph. I prefer lighthouses along a ragged shore line, like Maine or Oregon but I like seeing them all. Thanks for hosting the mid-week fun, my dear! 😉

What a beautiful photo. Seeing the lighthouse up ahead makes me want to follow the path to see what the ocean looks like there. 🙂

    Happy Wordless Wednesday, Sandee!

That is a beautiful photograph and the red lighthouse looks so striking. Seems to be like a quiet and peaceful place that might be ideal for a walk.

Thanks for sharing and joining our weekly blog hop, Sandee.
Happy #wordlesswednesday and a wonderful week ahead.
