Now thats exaclty the reason why I can never understand the command the peeps give me…English is just too confusing, if only the peeps learnt to bark!
Loves and licky kisses
Princess Leah xxx
You are perfect, Princess Leah. 🙂
LOL that is precisely the reason my husband frequently asks me to verify how certain words are spelled…. He can never recall which ones sound different but are spelled alike or which sound the same but are spelled differently. (write/right – to, too, two for examples)
Hubby and I do this with each other too. The older you get the more difficult it is too. 🙂
Very confusing indeed! I thank God that my dad sent me to an English school. If it had been a Chinese school and later to switch to an English school, I would have struggled to understand English.
I’m happy for you, Nancy. You write so very well. 🙂
Yes, it sure is confusing.
It can be. Trying to explain the differences is even harder. 🙂
It is confusing, and Spanish can be just the same. There must be at least 8 meanings for the word “como” depending on where you use it in the sentence and whether or not it has an accent, and i forget when to use the accent, too.
Thanks for the laugh!
There is that. Living here we are more Mexicans than anything else. They have taken over most of the state. You’re welcome for the laugh. 🙂
Mom never thought much about how difficult English is until she lived abroad for ten years and all the people were telling her how tough it is to learn because there are so many words that mean different things or sound the same but are spelled differently.
I can see this problem. Always have. It’s just the way of things. 🙂
Sandee,
That’s what I’ve been saying for years, the English language is tricky! lol These are always such fun to read. Happy Tuesday to all & thanks for hosting, my dear!
Language is fun all around. There are quirky things to discover in very language. Happy Tuesday, Cathy. 🙂
Those were great Sandee. Made me chuckle out loud. Sandee, you and Zane have a fantastic day.
Making one chuckle is a good thing, Marg. You have a fantastic day too. 🙂
LOL…these are great! Thanks for sharing. ((Hugs))
You’re most welcome, Michelle. Happy day. 🙂
Hi Sandee, I am so glad that English is my first language, that is confusing!
xx
I used to teach report writing when I was still working. Some of the kids had a tough time. 🙂
We definitely have to hand it to those who learn English as a second language! Why, how many of us still struggle with English as their only language? Bwahahahaha! 😆
I hear you there. I’ve read many reports from English only folks that were terrible. 🙂
I’ve often wondered through the years how some people even did their jobs! LOL! 😆
Try changing these English words into Italian. Have fun. See ya Sandee.
Cruisin Paul
I’ve not tried that, Paul. I’m sure it’s not easy. 🙂
Sandee this is soooooo funny and true. I worked with international students during my career at NC State University.
I cannot tell you how many times I was asked about all the words spelled the same but pronounced differently. English reading comprehension was a prerequisite along with written skills once they arrived.
You have jogged my MyMe today too.
I recall learning being taught the difference in 3 particular words
principle/principal: School leader: ended in ‘pal’
desert/dessert: two ss..’so sweet’ were dessert
stationary/stationery: paper had ‘er’ in it like paper
Hugs cecilia
I remember all those. I did very well with English while in school. I’m thankful for that. My reports were complete and correct and I testified in court many times on reports that I’d written. Did just fine. 🙂
Fun play on words, Sandee ~ Xox from me and z ~ ^_^
Happy Day to you,
A ShutterBug Explores,
aka (A Creative Harbor)
There are so many different play on words. I’ve always enjoyed them. 🙂
Imagine being hearing impaired and trying to figure that out.
It would be near impossible. 🙂
It’s time to convict the convict who brought it to our attention.
Yes, this is a perfect example, Kismet. You’re most wise. 🙂
Those were fun. Have a great day. 🙂 XO
Thanks, Ellen. You have a great day too. 🙂
As a former English instructor I believe this is what makes English challenging and rewarding.
I agree with you, Jan. I’ve always enjoyed English classes and English composition. 🙂
Being half Polish, I can relate to keeping the polish on stuff!
My point exactly. Happy Tuesday. 🙂
These are great! Happy Tuesday!
They are and they make perfect sense. Happy Tuesday. 🙂
I remember some of those type sentences from high school! lol No wonder English is such a difficult language to learn as a second language.
I did pretty good in English and History. The rest of the classes not so much. 🙂
So very funny. Happy Tuesday to you.
And difficult too. 🙂
All these are good examples of the strangeness of our language. So fun!
Happy Tuesday! <3
Strange is right, Barbara. Happy Tuesday. 🙂
You know this is really so true. And they Spanish is an easy language, I am not sure about that. I suppose any language besides English would be easy to learn if you were in a good quiet sitting and spoke it all of the time. I would love to learn Spanish, so I know what they are saying about me, lol! jk Have a beautiful sunny day with the love of your life. I love you honey bunches ❤🤗
Many languages are difficult I’m sure, but English does make me scratch my head often. 🙂
This makes me glad I was born to English speaking parents!! 🙂
Same here, Jan. We are both fortunate. 🙂
Happy Tuesday to everyone too. After reading your post. We agree English can be hard sometimes. Thanks for sharing all the examples. Have a wonderful rest of your week.
Happy Tuesday to you too. Thanks for always dropping by and commenting. It’s most appreciated. 🙂
Those are all so good. Mom wants to show these to the grands as they are always commenting about all those odd things about the English language.
Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber
It’s a good thing for them to learn these odd things too. They will carry it around for life. 🙂
Gooc ones but for me, mandarin is harder with the 4 tone. A wrong tone will led you into embarrassing moment. Lol
Oh my, tones would do me in. I’d have lots of embarrassing moments. 🙂
I enjoy twisting the language in such a way. lol
Me too. So many confusing words and pronunciations. 🙂
We think Doglish is easier to understand than English. Then again, sometimes mom doesn’t seem to comprehend what we mean.
Your fur-iends,
Sam & Elsa
I hear you there. It’s hard for us sometimes to get what our smart pups are trying to tell us. I remember. 🙂
Every time I have a Kindergartner I am like yes on all of these! We go to see the sea and other such things that my emerging reader just looks at me like what?!!!
I love these plays on the same word.
Me too. They are most fun. 🙂
