Wordless Wednesday

WW is a simple blog post featuring a photo which conveys a message that speaks for itself without using words.

For all the rule breakers, of which I am one, please feel free to add all the words you want.

Make sure you leave a link to your post and I’ll visit your Wordless Wednesday post.

Skittles

The red food dye for Skittles is made from boiled beetles. A common red food dye, carminic acid, is made from the crushed bodies of a beetle called the Dactylopius coccus. This acid is used in maraschino cherries, strawberry- and raspberry-flavored candy, and lipstick. Source: The Fact Site

Ewwwwww. Never liked Skittles, ate, like, 1 in my lifetime and now that will remain the former 0!!! Lot more of that probably going on, as the red and another dye, has been forbidden. Gotta make red etc from something. Right? Right.

  2. Ann Thompson says:

This is one fact that I seriously hope I forget before I eat any of those things again. I may just have to avoid all red foods until this is erased from my memory bank.

That’s going to take a long time to do. I hear you. Happy Wednesday and rest of the week. Love and hugs to you and lots of scritches to Gibbs. 🙂

  3. Debbie D. says:

Eww! I’ll stick with M&Ms, thanks. 😛 Red lipstick too, though? 😲 Thanks for that eye-opener, and for hosting WW, Sandee. Have a lovely day!🌹

  4. Suzette Benjamin says:

Thank you, Sandee, for this great bit of information. It is important to know what goes into the things one eats and uses… that this color is in lipstick too was a big surprise.
Happy Wordless Wednesday, dear friend. Thank you for your kind support of blog hops. Much love to you.

    • Sandee says:

I rarely eat candy either, but I’ve eaten a lot of Skittles. Lots of Skittles. Love and hugs to you and Kit and scritches to the kitties. 🙂

  5. Kitties Blue says:

I think I have just stopped eating anything red that isn’t natural as well as wearing lipstick (which I rarely do). This is absolutely disgusting. Tali caught three beetles on Monday … one see ate before I could get it from her. Thanks for linking us up again today. I found it most surprising. I wonder what other icky things we’re eating that we don’t know about. Scritches to all the kitties, a smooch to Cooper Murphy and a big hug to you. 🙂

  6. messymimi's meanderings says:

Even “natural flavors” and “natural colors” are suspect to me, I want to know what the ingredients are and this is why.

You and Mr. Zane have a blessed week and please give your furry overlords some scritches from me.

    • Sandee says:

There are more things to worry about than this. It is frightening what they are doing to our food. Love and hugs, my wonderful friend. 🙂

  7. ghostmmnc says:

haha what a creepy fact to think about, but probably true. Glad I don’t eat those anyway. Here it is now Thursday, so hope all is good out your way. <3

  8. Tails Around the Ranch says:

Starbucks also uses the same colorant in their cake pops. Kinda gross when you think about it. It’s hard to wrap your head around beetles being the color of so many edibles. Blech. Yet another reason to be a vegetarian! 😂

  9. Wing Commander Basil & The B Team says:

Oh, fun facts – love it!!! In the UK, the red food dye was called cochineal when I was little. I used to watch as my mum poured tiny drops into icing and cake batter. I really liked it until she told me it was crushed beetles!!! LOL Thank you so much for adding The B Team links this week; I really appreciate it. You are epic!!! 😻🐾✨🐾😻
