Wordless Wednesday

WW is a simple blog post featuring a photo which conveys a message that speaks for itself without using words.

For all the rule breakers, of which I am one, please feel free to add all the words you want.

Make sure you leave a link to your post and Iโ€™ll visit your Wordless Wednesday post.

Lobster

Lobster used to be considered the cockroach of the ocean. It may be found in the most luxurious menus now, but lobster was once eaten regularly by the homeless, slaves and prisoners. However, lobster started to be seen as a delicacy after World War II. Source: Facts.net

I love lobster and am mostly only able to have it on cruises. I think I went overboard with it the past two weeks! (Pun was not intended, but it fits ๐Ÿ™‚ ) I had lobster canapรฉs every evening, and three times during the cruise, plus surf an turf one night.

    • Sandee says:

About the only lobster dish I like is lobster bisque. It’s a texture thing for me. I’m glad you had a great cruise, Jackie. Love and hugs. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Memories of Eric and Flynn says:

I forgot about the lobster bisque. I had it as a starter in the steak house. I also had lobster thermidor one night. My most favourite way of eating lobster.

  2. Suzana says:

Never tried such a creature… I am not so curious about this kind of food…
Happy WW, dear Sandee! Thank you for the Blog Hop! Hugs an joy!โค๏ธ๐Ÿ˜˜

Lobster is always #1 on our choices of what to eat when we visit Maine. Once in a while a restaurant around here put it on the menu but it’s NOT QUITE the same as it is in Maine!!!!!

    Hugs, Pam

    • Sandee says:

We had a yacht club member that did lobster feeds at least once a year and that’s where he got his lobster. always a packed house. I had something else. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Loulou says:

Mama loves lobster but it’s better when it’s just caught out of the ocean because they do get sort of rubbery if they’re not cooked right. mama’s brother played the bagpipes once on a sailboat and another sailboat to thank him came over in their little boat and gave us a lobster, and that was really good!!!

  5. Alana Mautone says:

I did know this and I don’t think it’s the only food that has a similar story. I like lobster in a lobster roll where you can’t see the original creature, but I can’t eat it if it is in its shell. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

    • C.A. Peterson says:

I have often wondered this as well. What I picture is a guy stranded on an island who could not catch the seagulls that were eating a dead lobster. So he grabbed what the bird had not eaten and cooked it. When he was rescued he brought it to the attention of the longshoremen who proceeded to overcharge for it!!๐Ÿ˜‚

  6. an artist reflects says:

My favorite ~ Lobster ~ Recently reported in the local paper is that lobsters are now dwindling in the lobster catch so price may increase more ~ way of the world ~

Thanks, Sandee for hosting and love and hugs to you from me and Ziggy ~ xo

I remember clearly the last time, years ago now, I had a fabulous lobster dinner at a restaurant. It was delightful, and they just kept bringing more and more lobster to the table (I was an all you can eat style place). I was so impressed with its freshness and taste! Thanks for the good memories your share brought to mind, Sandee.
Happy Wordless Wednesday. Much love and hugs to you.

  8. angelswhisper2011 says:

We never have eaten lobster, Sandee, and Granny says we never will…can you believe that? We also want to know what’s behind the shell๐Ÿ˜ผDouble Pawkisses for a Happy Wednesday and week ahead to you, Zane and the kitties too๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ˜ฝ๐Ÿ’ž

    • Sandee says:

I tried it and didn’t like the taste or the texture. I do love lobster bisque though. Double Pawkisses to you both, prayers for Faye and a big hug to Granny. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. CatSynth says:

It’s interesting how tastes change like that. My understanding is that the lobster’s transition from poor-person’s food to fancy dining started in later 19th century, but probably did pick up after WWII and greater mobility.
It’s been a little while since I last enjoyed langusta myself ๐Ÿฆž

  10. Cecilia Upchurch says:

Looks yummy don’t faint I have never eaten fresh lobster. Had a taste once a Red Lobster but that isn’t like it would taste fresh I’m sure.
When we visit the kiddos and grand kitties on the NC coast we do have lots of good seafood though.
My son in law works in the seafood lab and NCSU down there.
    Hugs to you 4
    Cecilia

    • Sandee says:

I tried it once, but I didn’t like it. It was tasteless and I didn’t like the texture. I have issues with textures. Love and hugs to you and Kit and lots of scritches to the kitties. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Cecilia Upchurch says:

Sandee that is good to know. I am very particular about textures too. Don’t like chewy meat
What I tasted at Red Lobster was drenched in Butttttah and you know butttah makes everything good. MOL

    • Sandee says:

You’re most welcome. Many love lobster and many don’t. I’m in the don’t column. It’s all good. Happy WW and rest of the week. Thank you for all you do. ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Debbie D. says:

I love lobster in any form! ๐Ÿ˜‹ The nickname “cockroach of the ocean” surprised me, and also that poor and homeless people used to eat it, considering how pricey it is now!

Thank you for hosting the Wordless Wednesday link party. Have a good day and rest of the week! ๐ŸŒน

  12. Helen says:

Some of my mother’s uncles were lobster fishermen. She always said you knew the poor kids, they were the ones who had lobster sandwiches in their school lunches.

  13. ghostmmnc says:

Lobsters are funny looking. I’ve had some lobster tail with butter and it is good, but still I feel sorry for those live ones that they kill in the restaurants. … Hope you’re having a good Wednesday! โ™ฅ

  14. Rosey says:

‘Cockroach of the ocean’ is dreadful, lol. Funny how things shift!!
I don’t like seafood, but I wish I did since the health benefits seem to be pretty grand.
Here to say hello and wish you a fabulous day.

  15. CAAC says:

Cockroaches of the ocean you say. Isn’t that interesting! You’d never know that today, would you? The price of lobster is quite expensive. I’m so happy I’m not a huge fan of seafood. ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. MadSnapper says:

no lobster for me, or crab, but I do love shrimp, which is the only thing with a shell that I eat. tell your kitties I miss them.

  17. Darla M Sands says:

My husband and I watched a Youtube video about how lobsters don’t age like mammals. It’s fascinating and also sad because when they age out it’s because they can no longer molt. That sounds painful. ~shudder~ Hugs, my dear.
