Dial Up Service
As of 2017, 2.1 million people still use AOLโs dial-up service. Mainly, these customers live in rural America, where it can be expensive and unreliable to get high-speed internet. Meanwhile, dial-up is only $20 per month. Source: The Fact Site
On September 30th AOL is officially ending its dial-up service after 34 years. Source: Mashable
Linking up with a bunch of fantastic peeps from the blogosphere who host Wordless Wednesday โ Betty, image-in-ing, Keith, Senior Salon, Esme Salon, CatSynth, and Suzana.

That’s a long time for dial-up service. So much better now, with fibre optic. Happy Wednesday, Sandee! Thanks for hosting the link party. ๐
I hear you. Lightening fast now. Very slow back then, but we didn’t know any different. Happy day and rest of the week. ๐
We love your blog with or without comments or info or jokes or pics or ….MERICI for your humor and uplifting writing.
Thank you so much. Happy day and rest of the week. ๐
I loved AOL when I had it years ago! You’ve got mailโบ
I love AOL too and we had it for a very long time. ๐
Older ways are eventually useful ways for many people.
I like the subject. And do not like how the technology flood us…
Sometimes, or many times, mandatory!
Hugs and Happy WW, dear Sandee! Thank you for the Blog Hop.
All the best to you!๐โค๏ธ
Time marches on and technology gets better and better. Hugs, my friend. ๐
AOL was what I started off with. I can’t imagine still using dial up service though. I wouldn’t mind $20 a month though.
Same here. We had it for a very long time. I’d love the $20.00 a month too. Happy day and rest of the week, Ann. ๐
When I first heard the news, I couldn’t even believe this was still operating. I used AOL for about a yearback around 2000 but my very first service was CompuServe. Those AOL discs were everywhere, and I wonder how many discs still exist. Alana ramblinwitham
I don’t know, but you’re right those discs were everywhere. A fond memory. ๐
Whenever Mom hears AOL, she hears that sound of the internet connecting. It is shocking how many people still have AOL email addresses.
Me too. I think anyone that heard that connection will never forget the sound. Happy WW and rest of the week. Scritches to the pups. ๐
I used AOL dial up for a few months with my first PC, then stayed with them for several years on a much improved service before changing to BT. We are on the out skirts of a village and have no problem with internet, but a few years ago we were approached by a company who were wheeling out a new network to reach outlying areas. They wanted to erect a pole in our highest field with two small satellite dishes on them. We came to an agreement with them and they did that. They also gave us free internet. Not only that, but they also pay money into our bank account every month!
It was quite funny when I rang BT to cancel their service. The agent asked how much we were paying the new provider and he could see if he could beat it. When I told him they were paying us he just said okay and put the phone down.
How fun. You made me smile. Brilliant. Love and hugs, Jackie. ๐
I used AOL as my introduction to the internet. We’ve come a long way in technology since then. Happy Wednesday!
We sure have come a very long way. I’m happy about it. Happy Wednesday, my friend. ๐
Hugs, my friend.
Thank you for displaying my post “Embracing the understated” on your sidebar.๐ฅฐ
It’s a plug-in that’s automatic. If I like your post it shows up on my sidebar. Love that plug-in. ๐
It’s a great idea. I’ll check and see if I can add it to my blog.
It’s in the widget section. It’s called Posts I Like. That’s where you’ll find it. ๐
Thanks for letting me know.
I remember those days when the phone line was tied up and that awful sound when it was connecting. Thanks for hosting. Have a nice day. XO
I remember it too. I loved AOL. Scritches to the kitties and a hug to you. ๐
That was THE go to service back in the day, they did bring the WWW to so many.
It sure was. We had it too. Happy Wordless Wednesday. ๐
Just seeing the logo and my brain plays the sound of dial up. A smile memory from the past. Happy mid-week, dear Sandee.
My mind did the same thing. I should have found the soundtrack for the AOL connection. A hug to you and lots of scritches to handsome Wilson. ๐
AOL was it way back when! I wonder what those 2.1 people are going to do on October 1?
I have no idea. That information wasn’t shared. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week. ๐
I will never forget that sound. I was an online host for AOL for years.
Me either. I loved AOL back in the day. ๐
I remember using dial up. I still have my aol email account.
How cool. You’ve Got Mail. I remember that. ๐
That dial up tone was quite unique too….
Hugs to you 4 and happy weekend.
Cecilia
It sure was and You’ve Got Mail, too. Love and hugs to you and Kit and scritches to the precious kitties. ๐
I remember dial up!
I remember it too. So long ago. ๐
I can still hear the modem sound…LOL
I can hear it too. Scritches to the pups and my best to their peeps. ๐
Am wondering what folks who cannot get Wifi or dial-up internet connections will do now.
I have no idea. It wasn’t explained. I was surprised the AOL dialup was still around. ๐
I love you my Only. I love our Kitties too. Your Loving Husband.
I love you my wonderful Husband. I’m so happy we have our precious kitties. ๐
Thanks, Sandee. The phrase “dial-up” alone brought back memories of the dial-up modems that I used to wait for its tone to get online… so fun… the start of the Internet. Seems so long ago.
I knew AOL was still around, but I did not know its dial-up service was ending this month. Thanks as always for the super information and trivia.
Happy Wordless Wednesday. Much love and hugs to you.
Thank you so much for all you do to support blogging communities.
AOL was so very popular. Now it would be so very slow to have. Love and hugs, my friend. ๐
Thank you. Blessings to you, Sandee.
Interesting info ~ thanks ~
hugs and love to you from me and Ziggy ~ ^_^
I so remember AOL. It was so very slow. It would kick you off from time to time. Happy Wordless Wednesday. Love and hugs to you and Ziggy. ๐
I remember using AOL way back when. So much easier these days. Have a great Wednesday!
I agree with you, Yvonne. ๐
I remember AOL! Also those constant CDs that instantly became coasters.
I also used AOL messenger until they discontinued it.
I remember those CDs too. They were everywhere. I didn’t think of using them as coasters though. I just tossed them. ๐

You’re most welcome. Thank you for all you do, my friend. ๐
and I thought dial up was dead.glad that I learned something new today.
I was surprised about this too. Makes sense, but most don’t need or want dial-up anymore. ๐
Oh yes, I had AOL for a while way back when. I imagine it doesn’t have enough customers left to stay in business.
You’re probably right about that. Happy Wordless Wednesday. Scritches to the pups. ๐
It’s the end of an era. Dial-up AOL was my first experience with the internet. ๐
Mine too. I loved AOL. It was most popular. ๐
Man, I thought AOL would be here forever. That dial-up sound was the best, and my notification for my little sister’s texts to me are “You’ve got mail.” : ) I loved that if you continued to call someone, it would boot them offline. I did that to my sister a lot. Lol. My grandkids would die if they had to wait for dial up. Lol. – Happy Wednesday, Sandee. Luv u bunches. xoxo
It was so slow, but we didn’t know that. We loved AOL so much. You’ve Got Mail was a welcome thing too. Love you bunches, Karen. ๐
We have never heard of AOL, but when we see such an image, we sure would have tried it. It’s very inviting, as if we have to run for it๐ธThanks for the smile, Sandee๐บDouble Pawkisses for a Happy Day and week ahead to you, Zane and the kitties too๐พ๐ฝ๐
AOL was very popular here in the 90s. Almost everyone had AOL. Double Pawkisses to you both and a big hug to Granny. ๐
Interesting. I don’t think we ever had that AOL stuff. The most I ever heard about it was that is was so slow. … Hope your Wednesday has been going good. <3
It was slow, but we didn’t know that. It was the very beginning of Internet service. Happy Wednesday, Barbara. ๐
Daughter-in-Law works with a company which is connected to getting internet to rural areas. She says some are still too far out and won’t be getting service any time soon. I wonder what they’ll do with no dial up.
I pray you and Mr. Zane have a great week. Scritches to Lil’ Bit and Squeaker.
I didn’t even know AOL was still around. I have no idea what those folks are going to do. Love and hugs to you, my friend. ๐
Thanks for hosting. And for telling us about Steve. It’s so sad.
You’re most welcome on both. It’s so very sad. ๐
Wow That’s amazing AOLโs dial-up service,
Used dial-up connections for Internet, nostalgic.
Thanks a lot for hosting.
It was such a long time ago. We had AOL for many years. ๐
I remember having AOL. It had the cute, ‘you’ve got mail’ message. ๐
I remember that so very well. I loved AOL, but we didn’t know any different. ๐
I thought dial up had died long ago! Those were the days, huh? ๐น
Kit, Kat, Rocky & Cali
Those were the days and we loved AOL. Love and hugs to you and lots of scritches to the kitties. ๐
