All About Cats
A male cat is called a Tom. A female cat can be a Molly or a Queen. And no, we’re not just talking about the names that we give our feline companions. We’re talking about the technical term to refer to cats by gender.
A male cat is specifically called a Tom, but a female cat is more complex. Normally, a female cat would be referred to as a Molly, but if it’s pregnant with kittens, then it’s a Queen! Source: The Fact Site

We only know boys are Toms and Mom had a cat named Tom who was a boy too. The Molly thing is something we’ve never known about.

OMCs I never knew there was an official term for a female feline.
I suspect if Angel Madi was ever asked (even though she was never a Mom) she would say she was born a QUEEN and would always be one. Just like all female felines. I do love the name Molly for humans and furries though.

I knew that about the male cats, but not the names for the females. We have a Molly next door who is usually a Queen. I’ve given the owner info about a cheap spay clinic, but to no avail.

I never heard the term Molly before, but I like it 😺
I always thought Toms were specifically unfixed males. For example, Big Merp was a “big ol’ tomcat” when we was living on the streets before he came to live with us (and became fixed as a requirement).
I love finding out new things each Wednesday. I’m glad most of us didn’t know about the female kitties. Happy WW and rest of the week. 🙂
