How Horses Breathe
Horses don’t have an instinct to breathe through their mouths because their soft palate seals their pharynx except when swallowing. Horses can’t breathe through a sealed pharynx, and that is why they only breathe through their nostrils. Source: facts.net

But I’ve read that is healthier to breathe only through our nose.

Gorgeous horse – I didn’t know about the breathing thing for them – interesting indeed. Many years ago I had riding lessons and learned to absolutely ADORE their intelligence. I love their graceful beauty too!

That is a beautiful image. At last, something I did know! I have ridden since I was 5 and cared for horses including my own since the mid 70s. I don’t have any of my own now but we still rent stables and field keep for people on a DIY basis, whereas once I used to do it for them.

Lol. Sandee… City girl here. The first time I saw a horse laying down I thought it was dead and made my friend (who’s family was from the south) turn around to go check on it! The horse was sleeping, of course, and everybody had a good laugh, them more than me. Lol. I thought horses slept standing up! So, no big surprise, I didn’t know horses couldn’t breathe out of their mouths either, but hey, at least I’m not the only one! Lol. – Happy Wednesday, Sandee, sending you big, big hugs! Love you. <3

This is great, Sandee! I love it- My parents had a boarding stables when I was a child, so I was on the back of a horse by the time I was three. That is until I became a teenager, and avoided my parents at all costs. They are amazing animals, and it doesn’t surprise me that you know that. One morning awhile back, I woke up feeling down, and the following words came to me: ” Lost inside a state of mental and physical exhaustion, I prayed to meet an angel on earth, then, I felt the pillow of a horses mouth gently sweep grass from the palm of my hand.” – Ann Clemmons I miss you, and I hope you remember that I’m working on our book:)
