American Flag
When Alaska and Hawaii were being considered for statehood in the 1950s, more than 1,500 designs were submitted to President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Although some were 49-star versions, the vast majority were 50-star proposals. At least three of these designs were identical to the present design of the 50-star flag. At the time, credit was given by the executive department to the United States Army Institute of Heraldry for the design. The 49- and 50-star flags were each flown for the first time at Fort McHenry on Independence Day, in 1959 and 1960 respectively. Source: Wikipedia

Everyone should love their countries flag. Double Pawkisses to you both and a big hug to Granny. ๐
Thanks for the info – we LOVE the American flag and all it stands for. My Dad instilled a huge sense of patriotism in me and it burns brightly to this day……no matter what……
Hugs, Pam (and Teddy too!)
The same happened with my parents. We love this country and our precious flag. ๐
Love our beautiful American flag!
We do too and we love you and your mom. ๐
As a child, I owned a small 48 star flag. I had no idea of the design process that went into the 50 star flag. Alana ramblinwitham

I’m guessing every country has interesting facts about their flag. Hugs, my friend. ๐
Interesting. That’s a lot of design proposals for the flag and how interesting that there were 3 that were identical to the current design.
I found this very interesting. Happy day and rest of the week, Ann. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to Gibbs. ๐
This is the only flag our mom really knows but it is crazy to think just a few years before she was born there was one with only 49 stars.
It’s a cool tidbit of history. Have a fabulous day and rest of the week. Scritches to the pups. ๐
That is interesting to know. There is a quiz show every weekday afternoon which I like to watch. One of the questions was how many stars were on the American Flag in 1959. I said 50 so now I know why I was wrong.
I didn’t know this either. Have a fabulous day and week, Jackie. Love and hugs. ๐
I hope this beautiful flag continues to stand for all it has in the past.
I wish the same. Scritches to the pups. ๐
The history and symbolism of our flag are so amazing. Thanks for sharing this, Sandee!
I agree with you. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week, my friend. ๐

You and I feel the same. Love and hugs. ๐
Thanks for the history lesson. We are Canadian and still love our American neighbours.
We love you too, Wendy and Dani. ๐
I didn’t realize the current version came that late.
I hadn’t either, but it’s true. ๐

Flag history is very interesting, I wish I had more time to read up on flags around the world.
I pray you and Mr. Zane have a fabulous week and please give Lil’ Bit and Squeaker some scritches from me.
I agree. I think every country has fascinating flag history. Love and hugs to you and Mr. Sweetie. ๐
Amazing that over 1,500 designs were submitted, yet the final flag design was created by multiple people independently.
Fascinating history, Sandee!
I thought it was very interesting, Veronica. ๐
I think our flag is just wonderful, from both the patriotic sense and the design. ๐ Have a fabulous day!
