WW is a simple blog post featuring a photo which conveys a message that speaks for itself without using words.
For all the rule breakers, of which I am one, please feel free to add all the words you want.
Make sure you leave a link to your post and Iโll visit your Wordless Wednesday post.
The Apollo 11 Crew
Neil Armstrong and the Apollo 11 crew faced the real chance that they wouldn’t return from the moon safely, leaving their families without financial support. Due to the extreme danger that they were about to face, they couldn’t take out life insurance policies. So instead, they signed hundreds of autographs, which their families would have been able to sell if they didn’t make it home.
Linking up with a bunch of fantastic peeps from the blogosphere who host Wordless Wednesday โ Betty, Steve, image-in-ing, Keith, Senior Salon, Esme Salon, CatSynth, and Suzana.

I did not know this, as many other things… The moon is fascinating.
Maybe in another life I’ll pay a visit there!
Happy WW, dear Sandee! Hugs and thank you for the blog hop!โค๏ธ๐
I didn’t know this either. It was a great idea. I’m glad they made it home. Happy Wordless Wednesday, Suzana. Hugs. ๐
WOW now that’s a piece of news we never knew. How amazing and thoughtful to do such a thing, with the thought of never returning….unimaginable…..but they DID return. Hallelujah! Incredible those astranauts…
I’m happy they made it home too, but this was a brilliant idea. Happy Wordless Wednesday. ๐
Wow that’s really interesting and I’ve never read that anywhere before – it was a good idea – those autographs would have been worth a fortune. Amazing!
Hugs, Teddy and Mom Pam
I thought it was a brilliant idea. Happy Wordless Wednesday. A hug to Pam and scritches to handsome Teddy. ๐
Well…we’re speechless, Sandee๐ธDouble Pawkisses for a Happy Day and Week ahead to you, Zane and the kitties too๐พ๐ฝ๐
We were speechless too. We’re so happy they made it home safely. Double Pawkisses to you both and a big hug to Granny. ๐
I didn’t know that but such a good idea! Thankfully they got back safely. No post this week, I completely lost track of the days.
I’ll bet they could have made a fortune with this. I’m glad they didn’t need to. Happy day and rest of the week, Jackie. Hugs. ๐
Interesting! I didn’t know that.
I didn’t know this either. Happy Wordless Wednesday. ๐
It’s not even 6 am and we have learned something new. That is interesting.
It’s good to learn new things. Happy day and rest of the week. Scritches to the pups. ๐
Thatโs so fascinating. I never knew!
I never knew either. Happy WW and rest of the week. ๐
Well isn’t that interesting. I had never heard about that before.
I hadn’t either. I love strange facts. Happy day and rest of the week. A hug to you and scritches to Gibbs. ๐
I think I remember reading this somewhere. You’d think military people can get life insurance (through the military, I think) so why didn’t we set up something for these brave people? Alana ramblinwitham
I have no idea, but they should have been more tuned into their families. They were going into the unknown. ๐
That was an interesting way to insure the financial security of their families. Thanks for hosting. Have a nice day. XO
It’s a very interesting and brilliant idea. Glad they didn’t need it. Have a fabulous day, Ellen. Scritches to the kitties. ๐
What a wonderful idea and I did not know that before!
It was a very smart move on their part. I’m glad they made it home safe. ๐
We didn’t know that!
I didn’t know this either, but it makes sense. Scritches to the kitties. ๐
I would hope NASA would have also have provided some sort of compensation if anything went wrong.
I would hope that too, but who knows. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week. ๐
Sandee I never knew this. Such heroes…
Hugs Cecilia
Such heroes indeed. Hugs my friend. ๐
WOW, that’s scary and sad. We still don’t support our Nation’s heroes like we should.
You’re right about that. We need to support our heroes. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week. Scritches to the kitties. ๐
How interesting, and something I didn’t know. Happy Wednesday. Hugs!
I was surprised by this fact too. Happy WW and rest of the week, Eugenia. Hugs. ๐
Thank you, Sandee! ๐
Am old enough to have watched it live!
I’m old enough too. A wonderful time in history. ๐
We have lived through some awesome history of this great nation and those who gave us those moments were not given the honor and respect they deserve. Funny thing about heroes, they typically don’t think of themselves as heroes. They believe the just did what needed to be done. Have a blessed week.
Amen to this, my friend. Yes they did what needed to be done. Happy day and rest of the week. ๐
Thank you for that amazing information! I did not know this.
Thank you for hosting Sandee. Happy Wordless Wednesday. Peace to you.
I didn’t either, but it makes sense. I’m glad they made it home safely. ๐
Yes, I am glad they did and made history and opened an era of science an exploration. They are legends.
Wonderful history of the Apollo and special times ~ great post ~ thanks,
Hugs and love to you your family ~ ^_^
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

It sure is, Carol. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week. Scritches to Ziggy and a big hug to you. ๐
Wow! I didn’t know that! Cool history. ๐
Very cool history. I’m glad they made it home safe. ๐
Those were amazing times! Thank you friend. Aloha!
They were indeed. Happy day and rest of the week. Scritches to Pixie. ๐
I had no idea they did this, what a great idea
I didn’t either. There are so many things to learn. Happy day and rest of the week. ๐
I never thought about that, but it makes sense that it was un-insurable.
Fortunately, they made it safely home ๐
It sure does make sense. I’m happy they made it home too. ๐
Never knew about the autographs.
Thanks, Sandee, thank you for hosting this weekly party.
My entries this week are numbered #41+42
Hope you will join ES #WW https://esmesalon.com/tag/wordlesswednesday/ NOW OPEN
I didn’t know this either, but it makes sense. Happy Wordless Wednesday, my friend. ๐
Wow, I never heard that before. Very smart thing to do.
A very smart thing to do. I’m glad they made it home safely. ๐
We did not know that the Apollo 11 crew did that! Such a smart thing and a way better payout than the insurance would have been. “Gong hei fat choy” Love your #1 Fan Boy! Marvelous Marv
I didn’t know this either, but I thought it was most brilliant. It’s great to see all of you and especially Marvelous Marv. Scritches to all the kitties, a smooch to Marvelous Marv and a big hug to mom. ๐
That is an amazing fact. Thanks for sharing it. Those three are such brave men. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
I thought so too, Patrick. Brave men indeed. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week. ๐
I can’t imagine how scary that must have been!!
Me either. I’m glad they made it home safely. ๐
That’s amazing. I remember hurrying home from Six Flags when they moved the moon walk up. It was supposed to of been in early morning hours. Sitting on the floor, whole family gathered to watch that first step and then later, the lift off. Didn’t know about the trouble they were having until recently. Very smart to think ahead like that.
I had no idea. We were all glued to the television to watch the first step. Such heroes. Happy Wordless Wednesday. ๐
We were driving across the desert to California when they landed on the moon. The announcer on the radio said the astronauts said the moon was very desolate. My mum replied: “Can’t be any worse than here”.
Your mom was right. The desert can be barren is spots and alive in others. Happy Wordless Wednesday. ๐
I LOVED this information you gave us. I had no idea!
I didn’t know this either. It was brilliant. I’m glad they all came home to their families. ๐
They were certainly going where no one had gone before. I pray you and Mr. Zane have a great week, scritches to Lil’ Bit and Squeaker.
Into the unknown for sure. Such wonderful heroes. You and Mr. Sweetie have a fabulous day and rest of the week. Do those eye drops. ๐
Wow, I did not know that! Luckily things turned out well for them and they because famous and hopefully financially sound in the process.
I’m glad they made it home safely too. Such heroes. A hug to you and scritches to the pups. ๐
It must have been horrifying for their families to know that they might never come back. What an unimaginable amount of fear and uncertainty they must have faced.
Interesting post, Sandee!
You’re right about that. It would have been most horrible for them and their families. ๐
They say you learn something every day, and I just have! Nice one, Sandee!
I’m happy you liked this tidbit of history. Happy day and rest of the week, Keith. ๐
What fascinating history! Hugs, my dear.
I thought so too. I had no idea. Happy rest of the week. Hugs, my friend. ๐
Oh, wow. I didn’t know that. That’s cool. But also kind of sad? I’m glad they’re back safe. What do you think of all the conspiracy theories about Apollo 11 to be a hoax?
It was a sad thing to have to do, but I get why they did. I’m so happy they made it home safely. Happy day and weekend, Lux. ๐
Wow I love this little piece of history I learned about today. The knew!
