Rear Window
Rear Window is a 1954 American mystery thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock and written by John Michael Hayes based on Cornell Woolrich‘s 1942 short story It Had to Be Murder. Originally released by Paramount Pictures, the film stars James Stewart, Grace Kelly, Wendell Corey, Thelma Ritter, and Raymond Burr. It was screened at the 1954 Venice Film Festival.
A bored photographer recovering from a broken leg passes the time by watching his neighbors and begins to suspect one of them of murder.
The film was shot entirely at stage 17 at Paramount Studios which included an enormous indoor set to replicate a Greenwich Village courtyard, with the set stretching from the bottom of the basement storeroom to the top of the lighting grid in the ceiling. The lighting was rigged with four interchangeable scene lighting arrangements: morning, afternoon, evening, and night-time. Set designers Hal Pereira and Joseph MacMillan Johnson spent six weeks building the extremely detailed and complex set, which ended up being the largest of its kind at Paramount. One of the unique features of the set was its massive drainage system, constructed to accommodate the rain sequence in the film. They also built the set around a highly nuanced lighting system which was able to create natural-looking lighting effects for both the day and night scenes. Though the address given in the film is 125 W. Ninth Street in New York’s Greenwich Village, the set was actually based on a real courtyard located at 125 Christopher Street. Source: Wikipedia

Such a good movie, they don’t make them like they used to anymore.
They sure don’t make them like this anymore. Hitchcock knew how to spin a frightening tale. 🙂

Love the old Alfred Hitchcock movies and series! He was a master at using audience anticipation or questions to build the tension.
He sure was. I agree with you. I’m glad you have your cast off. Enjoy. 🙂

There has been a parade of visitors in and out of the house though…so purrhaps that is excitement for the rest of the village! I shall see if I can find the movie and watch it! Thanks for being YOU! and Thanks for adding some excitement to my day! Marvelous Marv’s Peep Barb
I hope you get out of that cast soon. I’m sorry you’re stuck in your home. You do have Marv though and that would make me happy. I love you, Marv and all your babies. 🙂

I really do not know why I have never seen this film. It sounds the type I would enjoy. I will have to search for it on You Tube. It is sure to be there.
I know you’ll love it, Jackie. Love and healing hugs, my friend. 🙂
I remember watching Rear Window in film class. It is a classic. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
It’s a great movie indeed. Happy Wordless Wednesday, Patrick. 🙂
They just don’t make movies like this anymore!
They sure don’t. Loved this movie. Scritches to the precious pups. 🙂
Yet another of my favorites Sandee! I love the intrigue and yet simple feel to this movie. I was thinking of Hitchcock’s influence on movies the other day as a matter of fact. I did not know it was filmed entirely in studio and that bit about the nuanced lighting is awesome trivia! Thank you. Happy Wordless Wednesday!
I love this movie too. On the edge of my seat. I love knowing where movies were filmed. Often not where you think. Happy Wordless Wednesday, Suzette. Hugs. 🙂
Thank you Sandee, I always enjoy the excellent nostalgic movies you select. Blessings!
Granny loved Hitchcock’s movies, Sandee. She thinks she has seen them all when she was still little. Her mom liked them, but was to scared to watch alone…MOL…Double Pawkisses for a Happy Week ahead to you, Zane and the kitties too. Have fun🐾😽💞
We loved that movie and it’s scary. Double Pawkisses to you both and a big happy birthday to Granny. 🙂
This is such a great movie but I guess that’s true of most of Hitchcock’s movies. A favorite of mine that no one else I know seems to like is “Rope”. The whole movie takes place in an apartment in real time and he used really long camera shots. And Jimmy Stewart, like always, is great in his role.
One of my buddies just mentioned this movie. I’ll check it out. Thanks for linking up, Michael. You’re most welcome. 🙂
Not only have I never seen this one before but I don’t even think I’ve heard of it. Sometimes I feel like I live under a rock…lol
It’s a Hitchcock classic. Worth the watch. 🙂
If you like “Rear Window”, as I do, I recommend “Rope”.
I’ll check out Rope. Never heard of it. Thanks. 🙂
I saw this many, many years ago, along with other Hitchcock classics. I’m sure you remember the Hitchcock mystery series on TV in the early 60’s. My parents watched that. Of course, it was on past my bedtime. Alana ramblinwitham
I watched that too. Thirty minute scary and weird stuff. Loved it. Happy WW. 🙂
I loved this movie and have seen it maybe 4 or 5 times over the years. the first time I saw it was at a drivein theater, with my mom and her sister, I think i was about 10 or 12 not sure and it scared me silly back then.
It was scary when I first saw it too. It’s a great movie. 🙂
Great information about the production!
I love that information almost as much as the movie itself. Scritches to Pixie. 🙂
It’s a classic, all right.
You and Mr. Zane have a fabulous rest of the week, and scritches to the kitties.
It sure is, my friend. You and Mr. Sweetie have a fabulous rest of the week, too. 🙂
Love this movie! I’m a HUGE Hitchcock fan.
I’m a huge fan of his movies too. 🙂
Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelley, what a great pair. Have a very blessed week.
You’re right about that. Happy rest of the week, my friend. 🙂
That movie had some fine actors. Blessings.
It sure did. Happy day and rest of the week. 🙂
Thanks, Sandee, for hosting. Enjoy your day and week
Love Alfred Hitchcock

Another one for my ‘must watch again’ list! Nice one, Sandee.
I agree with you, Keith. Have a great day and weekend. 🙂
Hitchcock movies always scared me; but I thought this was one of his better ones.
He always scared me too, but I watched them anyway. Happy day and weekend. 🙂
Happy Sunday Sandee, thank mew for adding the Midweek News to the link up, we really appreciate it! Happy Sunday to mew, and we hope your week is pawesome!!!
You’re most welcome. I want to make sure your link is always there. Love and hugs to all of you. 🙂
Dad says he hasn’t seen that one yet, but he says he loves learning about all that technical behind-the-scenes stuff.
I like that part too. Sometimes it’s a surprise where it was filmed. 🙂
