Beverly Hills Cop (1984)

Beverly Hills Cop is a 1984 American buddy cop action comedy film directed by Martin Brest, with a screenplay by Daniel Petrie Jr., and story by Danilo Bach and Daniel Petrie Jr. It stars Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, a street-smart Detroit detective who visits Beverly Hills, California, to solve the murder of his best friend. Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Ronny Cox, Lisa Eilbacher, Steven Berkoff, Paul Reiser, and Jonathan Banks appear in supporting roles.

This first film in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise shot Murphy to international stardom, won the People’s Choice Award for “Favorite Motion Picture”, and was nominated for both the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1985. An immediate blockbuster, it received positive reviews and earned $234 million at the North American domestic box office, making it the highest-grossing film released in the U.S. in 1984. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this movie, but it has been a long time ago. But just the other day a movie came on that I watched most of it, and I’d seen it before, too. I think it was called “Rush Hour” which was sort of similar and funny too at times.
Wishing you a wonderful Wednesday! <3

I went to this movie with a girlfriend who has since passed away. A fond memory of sharing a movie with a great friend. Happy Wednesday. 🙂

One of my all time favorite movies. Such a hilarious romp that made Eddie Murphy a super star in the mid-80’s. I watch that movie (which I thought was the best of the batch) whenever it’s one and still love it. Great flick and awesome sound track. We used the theme song at the beginning of our home voicemail recording for ages!

  8. Rosey says:

Have I seen it? I’m trying to think… I don’t think I have. I remember he had a hit song on the radio when I was a kid… “My girl likes to party all the time.” And I remember a 33 album of his comedy. It was pretty funny. Funny enough that I still remember one of the skits and it was a loooong time ago. 🙂 Have a happy day!

Your take on Beverly Hills Cop is a great trip down memory lane. I remember when Eddie Murphy’s performance made such an impression. The film’s mix of comedy and action was just perfect, and it’s amazing how it catapulted him to stardom. Thanks for sharing this nostalgic piece, Sandee!

Such a great movie. I haven’t watched it in a long time but I’ve got it pulled up on Netflix for my Sunday night movie. Eddie Murphy kills me. He’s just so funny! You know a lot of now Hollywood people went to Mumford High, including the guy that did this movie. Can’t wait to watch. Pot roast and Beverly Hills Cop. My evening is complete. Lol. Love you Sandee. I hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend. xoxo
