One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is a 1975 American psychological drama film directed by Miloš Forman, based on the novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey. The film stars Jack Nicholson as a new patient at a mental institution, alongside Louise Fletcher as a sadistic nurse. The supporting cast is Will Sampson, Danny DeVito, Sydney Lassick, William Redfield, and the film debuts of Christopher Lloyd and Brad Dourif.
Originally announced in 1962 with Kirk Douglas starring, the film took 13 years to develop. Filming finally began in January 1975 and lasted three months, on location in Salem, Oregon and the surrounding area, and in Depoe Bay on the north Oregon coast. The producers shot the film in the Oregon State Hospital, an actual psychiatric hospital, which is also the setting of the novel. The hospital is in operation, though the original buildings in the film have been demolished. The film was released on November 19, 1975. Considered by many to be one of the greatest films ever made, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is No. 33 on the American Film Institute‘s 100 Years… 100 Movies list. Source: Wikipedia

The movie was very good and so sad, too. 🙂

I need to read the book. I’m sure it’s a bit different than the movie. 🙂
I saw the movie in its initial release and have never seen it again – now I’m wanting to. It was a great, great movie. Alana ramblinwitham

There sure are. Way to many. 🙂

It’s just as good now as it was back then. Amazing film indeed. 🙂
Interesting facts. I had no idea how long it took to make that movie. Thanks for hosting. Have a great day. XO
I didn’t know most of this either. Have a great day, Ellen. Scritches to the kitties. 🙂
What a great movie! I didn’t know it took so long to develop and make the movie. Jack Nicholson has always been one of my favorites. Happy Wednesday!
I love Jack Nicholson too. He played his part so very well. Happy Wednesday, Yvonne. 🙂
Absolutely great movie with some big stars offering up great performances.

It sure is. Hubby and I watched it again recently. It never gets old. 🙂
Ohhh I had not thought of this movie in years.
What fun it would be to watch The Shining and One flew over the Cuckoo’s nest on the same day..
Jack had the best facial expressions…he needed no Words
Hugs cecilia
I’m a fan of Jack. He’s such an amazing actor. Love and hugs my friend. 🙂
A classic movie for sure and great info on it ~ thanks,
Hugs and love to all from me and Ziggy,

A ShutterBug Explores ~

A movie that will last through the ages. Love and hugs to you and Ziggy. 🙂
It was a very good movie. Mom had to read the book in high school too and enjoyed it just as much as the movie.
Woos – Misty and Timber
I’ve not read the book. I need to do that. Scritches to the pups and a hug to you. 🙂
Definitely a classic film. And love reading about the filming locations (I’ve done several videos about films shot in San Francisco and New York).
It’s fun to find out the filming locations and the backstories of movies. Happy rest of the week. 🙂
What an amazing movie and great knowledge. Thanks for sharing it. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
The shining and this movie are a couple of my favorites. Happy day and rest of the week, Patrick. 🙂
One of my favorites! I never knew it was filmed in Salem OR….very cool!
I didn’t know most of these things either. I love the backstories on such great films. 🙂
Loved that series One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
Thanks, Sandee, for hosting and allowing me to linkup. Happy Hump Day.

You’re most welcome. Thank you for letting me link up on your site too. Happy Hump Day and rest of the week. 🙂
Happy mid-week! You know, I don’t think I’ve seen the movie…at least not in its entirety. Might have to rectify that! 😊
It’s worth the watch. Scritches to the pups and hugs to you. 🙂
Sometimes I wonder if we’ve really made much headway in the treatment of mental health since then.
I do pray you and Mr. Zane have a fabulous rest of the week, and scritches to Lil’ Bit and Squeakers.
I don’t think we have at all.
I pray you and Mr. Sweetie have a fabulous rest of the week. Love and hugs. 🙂
I have never seen it!! I’m such a wimp about these things, truly. 🙂 I didn’t know Danny DeVito was in the movie!
It’s worth the watch. I love that movie. 🙂
Louise Fletcher was also great as Kai Winn in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Also a consummate actress. There’s a story that she had a bad cold or flu and still worked through it.
I didn’t know this. Very interesting and thank you for adding to the story. 🙂
I need to watch this movie again!
It has all my favorite actors.
Happy Thursday, Sandee!
You do, indeed. You won’t be disappointed. 🙂
LOVED THAT MOVIE!!! Maybe we’ll go back and see it again….we’re starting to do that with good films and would LOVE some suggestions for good series!
Me too. Hubby and I watched it again recently. Still such a great movie. 🙂
It is a tragic story. I find “12 Monkeys” more rewatchable. It’s retains elements while being a science fiction time travel/dystopian tale that’s a little less depressing. Go figure. That story even got a television series we enjoyed. 😀 A sequel series emerged which we found unnecessary, though. ~shrugs~ Be well and hugs, my dear.
I meant ‘it’, not ‘it’s’. lol
It is a tragic story with tons of humor. The ending was horrific and sad. Hugs. 🙂
I saw this movie when it first came out. A brilliant movie & I’ve watched it several times since. My favourite part was when the Chief finally spoke & his reason for not ever speaking was because he had nothing to say.
That was indeed amazing when the chief spoke. 🙂
Their Bus outing was a great event too. Sad ending though.
Here I am. Very late to the party and just making it on time, dearest Sandee.
Thanks so much for hosting. And I love this whole new twist to your #WordlessWednesday posts.
Sending you big, big hugs and much love always. xoxo
It just came to me. Wondering about movies that I love. Have a fabulous day and weekend, sweet Natasha. Love and hugs. 🙂
Thanks so much for participating and sharing at #32 #WW (Words welcome). See you next week Wednesday, https://esmesalon.com/tag/wordlesswednesday/
It’s been a long time since I have seen this movie. My son and I do once a week a movie and dinner night. I know what our next movie is going to be!
It’s worth the watch. 🙂
