Where: Highclere Park, Highclere, Newbury RG20 9RN England

There are so many amazing stately homes around England that act as movie locations in TV shows and films. But there’s one that’s warmed our hearts more than any other within the last decade or so. Highclere Castle was the Downton Abbey and home of the well-to-do Crawley family. Though the castle isn’t open all the time because it’s actually someone’s real-life home (I’m not jealous…), visiting the castle is a must-do for TV fans.

Linking up with a bunch of fantastic peeps from the blogosphere who host Wordless Wednesday – Betty, Steve, image-in-ing, Keith, Cathy, Sara, Esme Salon, CatSynth, and Suzana.

It is a beautiful building. We visited there many years ago before it became famous as Downton Abbey.

  2. Natasha says:

How regal is this. Must be gorgeous inside too.
I’d get lost if I were to live here. 😉

Another unique share dearest Sandee. <3
    Hugs xoxo

  3. Suzana says:

To visit, it’s fine, to live there, hmmm, I do not think so!
Impressive look. If you’ll go there, don’t forget to tell us details.
Happy WW, dear Sandee! Hugs and light around you!❤️😘

I love that show. And I have a Christmas book written by the countess who lives there. Thanks for hosting. Have a great day. XO

  5. Rosey says:

I’d never be able to find the cat if we lived there. 😉 It’s surely stunning though, outside…and I bet inside as well.

It’s still strange to me that there are so many centuries old buildings in the world. The only one I ever saw was Nuremberg castle in Germany when we took a tour. Amazing!
Well, it’s Wednesday and I wish you a wonderful day. <3

  7. Cecilia Upchurch says:

Oh did we enjoy Downton Abbey…tremendously. TRULY THE BEST TV I’VE SEEN ALONG WITH Doc Martin.

    What a stunning castle, Sandee!
It certainly captures the grandeur of British stately homes.
Downton Abbey made it iconic, and visiting must feel magical.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful image.
    Happy Wordless Wednesday!

I’m one of those who have never watched Downton Abbey and I don’t know why, especially as a couple of my friends are huge fans. Stately, and worth visiting just for the pre-Downton history. Alana ramblinwitham

  11. The OP Pack says:

Mom would love to see the inside of the castle. She loved that show and wishes there could have ben more episodes.

I really liked that show, especially Maggie Smith’s character, she’s a funny lady. Imagine having to vacuum the floors. By the time you got the last room done it’d be time to start over again.

  14. LOULOU says:

Oh how we loved that family and wonderful Maggie playing the little old lady with a sharp retort for everyone…great show. LOVELY castle…hope they live in a small part, haha.

  15. Jaśmin Stokrotka says:

And I wouldn’t want to live there too many windows to wash. Unless someone did it for me, that’s something else.
