It’s Wednesday so that means it’s question time. It’s time to ponder and then answer just one question. Okay, you can add all you want as a reason for your answer too. We’d all like that.
Here’s this weeks question: If you had to name a smell that always makes you nostalgic, what would it be?
Pumpkin pies baking in the oven. It always, always reminds me of my mother. Her favorite pie and my favorite pie. I sure wish I could walk into her kitchen while she was baking pumpkin pies. I miss you mom.
Hi Sandee, when I was working in the city, the smell of frying salted fish reminds me of home back in my hometown. I felt very homesick whenever I smelt this smell.
We all have some trigger to our past. Good memories they are too. 🙂
bacon frying every morning is the smell I woke up to my whole childhood.
Bacon is a great smell first thing in the morning. 🙂
The salt smell of the Gulf or ocean. If i get a whiff of that, i am instantly thinking of walking a beach at sunrise.
Oh that's a great smell too. 🙂
I would say for me is the smell of stew and dumplings luverlyyyyy 🙂
Have a nostalgictastic day Sandee :-h
Sounds good Steve. 🙂
That chlorine smell at an indoor pool is one. I met my husband when we were both on the swim team. 🙂
I can see why that's a great smell for you. 🙂
I have so many…Christine's above is a big one for me too, since I used to lifeguard (for about 4 yrs), I taught swimming and was also on the swim team. Also, since age 8 on, my summers all were spent at the pool (but an outdoor pool)
Freshly cut grass.
Bacon.
Baking bread
Bonfires…that is a huge one. Reminds me of one of my first loves.
Oh geeze, I could go on and on! lol
xoxo
What wonderful memories you are having today. I love it. 🙂
Baking bread is great but a barn full of freshly cut hay is the best. Sandee, you and Zane and Little Bit have a good and great day.
Alfalfa hay to be precise. Nothing smells quite like alfalfa. 🙂
Easter bread, my mother baking Easter bread. She would take it out of the oven, what a beautiful smell and then she would cut a big piece with butter for me. I was in heaven.
Today she is making the Easter bread in heaven.
Have a beautiful Wednesday Sandee. See ya.
Cruisin Paul
What a lovely memory Paul. We both loved our wonderful moms. 🙂
My answer is close to yours. The smell of Thanksgiving turkey will always remind me of my mom and all the great Thanksgiving dinners we had. I miss my mom too. She was an unconditional loving mother.
Thanksgiving was a good smell too. We had Thanksgiving and Christmas at moms house for years and years. 🙂
The smell of Yardley fragrances, especially Lavender! 🙂
Lavender is a wonderful smell. 🙂
There are so many. Around this time of year there is a certain Fall smell, the grass, the ozone, whatever that always tells me it is FOOTBALL SEASON.
I know you love football. Enjoy. 🙂
there is a place called Granpa's Cheese Barn in ashland county here in ohio the have fresh baked pies, every time I got a slice of it I would always think of my Grandma Helen Hirt's Pies.
I forgot to add I miss her and my Mom and Dad. feeling nostolgisic I guess. 🙁
Roast pork always makes me think of Christmas time because that was, and still is, our tradition. Thankfully, I still have my parents, but I do get nostalgic thinking about the relatives we have lost over the years. On the plus side, our family is growing and the traditions are being carried over to a new generation every year.
How wonderful that the new generation is carrying on. Ours isn't. No one wants to do the work that is required. It's a shame. 🙂
Snow on evergreens = childhood Christmas
Another delightful thing to remember. 🙂
My wife's meat loaf with that special topping that I never been able to duplicate since she passed away!
Oh meatloaf does smell good. Yes indeed. 🙂
Darn. I can't think of a single good smell that makes me nostalgic…perhaps because of the awful smell of my father's cigarettes?
Scritches to LB. Big hugs, honey…
Cigarettes are an awful smell indeed. 🙂
Macaroni and Cheese: Andy Griffith Show :-f
Oh my I'd forgotten about that. I remember the mac and cheese. 🙂
MotherDear's sauce…. Hey, it's Prince Spaghetti Day and there will be no pasta in my world today. bugger to that!
Shoot, what am I talking? It can be just the beginning aromas of the sauteed garlic and onions and Italin sausage baking… mmmm….
Have a lovely day! xoxo
Being Italian I'll bet your house smells wonderful most of the time. Nothing better than sauce and garlic and other Italian things cooking. 🙂
We are NOT Italian… English and Portuguese… but my sister Lynda married an Italian. So there.
We all just love Italian food. Doesn't everyone though!?!
Well, I just thought you were Italian with all the Italian food you have. I learn something new every single day and that rocks. 🙂
Sandee,
Yes, to this day I think of the old `sitcoms` when I think of Mac`n`Cheese.
What a lovely thing to think. 🙂
The smell of lilac always reminds me of carefree days of spring when I was a kid. Not sure why. Gardenia reminds me of trips to Hawaii which takes me back to happy times there too.
Happy Wednesday Sandee! Scritches to Little Bit!
Funny how smells can take us back through the years. I love it. 🙂
When I smell dump trucks, it reminds me of walking the streets (not avenues) of New York City. It's strange. It's a pungent smell but it takes me back and I like it.
You like what you like. 🙂
I can't think of one scent that reminds me of anything from the past.
Well, you don't have to either. 🙂
Fresh baked bread. There used to be a commercial bakery a couple of miles from our house in Tulsa. When you drove by there at night and they were baking fresh bread for morning delivery, it would just melt your soul. I used to drive by there just for the aroma.
Oh nothing smells better than a bakery when it's in full swing. 🙂
My mother's pumpkin pie.
Well, I can relate to this. 🙂
That smell of pork barbecue -we usually have this on Christmas eve..it reminds me so much of our family during Christmas eve.
Lots of folks thought about the holidays. That's cool. 🙂
Normally, I read your question and have an answer, but today I have nothing. I am sure there are smells that remind me of something, but I can't think of any of them right now.
Well, that's okay Rhonda. You'll be going a long at some point and you'll have a smell that you relate to some event in your life. It's all good. 🙂
Beef and Noodles reminds me of my grandma. I never get to smell it though. Brut cologne reminds me of my high school love (LOL!).
Oh Brut. I remember that on a good looking guy back in the day too. 🙂
My wife's rose perfume from Avon.
Awww, that's a sweet thing to say Odie. 🙂
It's hard to pick just one… there was a certain aroma to my Grandmother's house (before it was destroyed by druggies). Pumpkin pie = Thanksgiving and Pine tree = Christmas. And I think if I smelled Debbie Gibson's Electric Youth perfume right now, I'd be transported back to 1996!!!
How fun, well except for that awful experience with those druggies. I know that was a difficult time for you. 🙂
