It’s Wednesday so that means it’s question time. It’s time to ponder and then answer just one question. Okay, you can add all you want as a reason for your answer too. We’d all like that.
Here’s this weeks question: Are you a saver or a spender?
Hubby and I are a bit of both. We have a budget and we follow it very well. We do plan for life’s little surprises so we have the money to fix whatever needs fixing. In our former lives we were always broke because our partners would spend more than we brought home.
I used to be a spender and learned the lesson of saving the very hard way. Now, I am more of saver, Hubby is still learning but he's on his way 🙂
If you both work together you'll be surprised at what you can accomplish. 🙂
Actually, what Rocks said is quite true of me! Only worse. Not only did I used to be a spender but we had debt because we didn't make much but there was plenty of stuff we needed and wanted. We didn't say "no" to oursleves nearly enough. I also learned that lesson the hard way! I had never saved a dime until after my divorce at 40 years old. A lot changed after my divorce. A lot. =))
Have yourself an extry special day, kiddo! big hugs x0x0
My ex spent money we didn't have. When we separated he left me with $95K in debt. It took me a decade to pay that off. 🙂
I am primarily a saver but then when I do spend, it's usually a big chunk of change, like for car repairs or home improvement projects.
Yes, owning a home has a whole crop of things that need fixing at some point. 🙂
Saver. I hate debt and always have. I guess when you watch your mom mad mother-in-law struggle after divorce (and help pay her bills), there's a good chance that will happen.
Have a lovely day!
We hate debt too and we've not much debt left. Divorce is a struggle because I've done some of that very same struggle. 🙂
Sweetie is a spender and i am a saver. We were put together to balance each other out, if we don't end up killing each other first!
That combination didn't work for me. My ex just kept spending and spending. No matter what I said or did to get him to stop. 🙂
A very interesting question this morning. When I was young I was a spender but after marrying my wife she taught me how to do both. Save when necessary but be able to enjoy life when you can. We were able to save enough money that today we can enjoy the finer things in life and that was because of my wife. Lucky me.
Have a wonderful Wednesday Sandee. See ya.

Yes, saving money does help you enjoy the finer things in life. It doesn't take a lot of effort either. 🙂
Well I can't save anything or spend much.. I just spend what I absolutely have to to keep going And just hope nothing big breaks. It is not a bad life at all. Luckily I have some good friends that help with the animals. Sandee you have a great great day.
Living on a limited income is trying at times, but if you have a roof over your head, food on the table and lots of babies to share your life with you're richer than most. 🙂
I am a saver by desire, a spender by necessity…if I can pay for my roof, food and other necessities like clothes, TV and phones I save the rest…often zero point zero.
That happens to all of us Joe. Sometimes you can sock away a bit though and that's a good month. 🙂
I save mostly but will spend when necessary. I've always lived well within my income, no matter what it was in any given decade.
I did find until I married my ex husband. Things went downhill from there. The day he left was the first day of heading in the right direction. 🙂
I'm a saver, unless we're talking travel. Then I don't mind spending… much to my husband's chagrin. 😉 Ah, I could def. travel a lot more than I do and be very happy to do so. 🙂
If you're going to travel somewhere you need to enjoy it to the fullest. I've seen people travel long distances and then not enjoy many things because it would cost a few dollars. Sad. 🙂
To be honest, I'm a Spender at heart. I love buying new things – always have, always will. BUT… since marrying, I've had to become more of a Saver as hubs is even more of a Spender than I am. LOL Great question, Sandee! Hope you have a marvelous day! 🙂
I'm lucky to have a guy that wants no debt and is a saver. It has served us well when things need fixing. 🙂
Both! With 4 kids in the house, there is always something those "people" need me to buy. New shoes since the old ones don't fit, new pencils and on and on!
Well, I do remember raising a family. It is always something. Always. 🙂
I am a saver and hubby is a spender. Therefore we are a little bit of both. He always talks about it first. I've been 'broke" to the point of living on Ramen noodles after my divorce- never again.
I've done the Ramen noodles and the mac and cheese. I so remember. 🙂
I'm a saver and thankfully, hubby is too. We don't count pennies or anything like that and we buy what we want but we don't blow money by any means. I hate debt and refuse to pay interest on anything other than a mortgage which means we have to save up for our home improvements, new cars and vacations. Updating Quicken is a thrill for me since I love to see our net worth go up! I wanna retire early! 🙂
Happy Wednesday Sandee! Scritches to Little Bit!
You're both doing the right things to retire early too. It's not that hard to figure out what you need and how you'll get there. 🙂
that's a tough one. I am a "spender" because we live paycheck to paycheck and can't save. I would LOVE to save but we can't. But…..if I had the money, I LOVE spending!
I've been there. It's hard when you live paycheck to paycheck. 🙁
I am a saver usually enough to be able to get whats needed or replace anything 🙂
Of course I like spending but usually not over budget
Have a savetastic day Sandee :-h
We all have those things we like to spend money on, but you've got to stay within your budget. 🙂
Probably a Saver, Sandee. I really feel uneasy every time we overspend. Someday the little cushion we have may be depleted. Then what?
Saving, during our married life, we have never purchased a NEW CAR. My favorite find is a three year old nice car that was owned by a LOL (Little Old Lady) who took good care and didn't drive much (means low mileage cream puff).
We have been traveling but that money didn't come from our operating budget. We are "about done" with the big trips. I have written off the South Pole and Mrs. Jim has given up for now South Africa.
I may 'tell' more in July or August.
My former life had a Spender partner. After the divorce I had all the credit cards but they were maxed out. In a couple of years they were paid off, by me.
..
Yep, I get that. Travel can be very expensive, but there are other ways to get out and about that's not so expensive. 🙂
when I was married to my first husband I developed a fear of being broke. I learned to be a saver. I do still spend but only to a certain point.
I felt the same way with my ex. He was the biggest spender I've ever known. I'm so glad he's gone. 🙂
saver and spender. Save to reach a goal and then spend.Happy savings day!
That's the way to do it. No need to go into debt to do what you want. A little planning goes a long way. 🙂
I'm a saver…but we've been saving for a house for the past few years. Now that we're IN that house, it seems weird to save. We still need to save, but instead of building up a huge surplus in our savings account, we need to now think about investing.
Yes you do and I'm sure you will. Good for you. I love to see young folks succeed. 🙂
Hi Sandee,
I am very much a spender, although hubby wishes I didn't spend as much w-)
Well, if you have it then spend it. 🙂
I'm a saver. I don't really like spending.
I'm more of a saver too. I don't mind spending when needed, but would rather save money. 🙂
Yes. I save for those things that I want and then pay cash for them. At this point in life, there aren't many things left that I want for need, so saving should be easier, but health care and insurance keep getting in the way.
Paying cash rocks and then some. I hear you about the health care and insurance though. I'm paying far more on health care insurance this year and my coverage sucks. 🙁
A spender—Heck you can't take it with you! Live for today for tomorrow may never come!
That's one way to look at it Ron. We certainly can't take it with us. 🙂
I confess, I'm a spender, but I do try to stay within our means. I'm very debt adverse.
Staying within ones means is essential. Debt can get away from folks if they aren't careful. 🙂
I'm a saver thanks to the days of the wolves at the door during college. There was never enough money and I vowed to never be in that position again. It helps me rein in my husband's spender tendencies when I remind him of those days. I don't mind spending when I have it to spend.
Good policy to spend when you have it to spend. It's those plastic cards that get folks into serious trouble. 🙂
Like you, we are both. We save, but we budget spending money too.
And it works. Good for the both of us. 🙂
Oh, I'm definitely a spender. I do have money saved, but I could save more. I'm sorry I'm late for Wednesday's Question. This is a fabulous question. I have remind myself to be more thrifty. I hope you're having a super great Friday.
xoxoxo
Well, at least you have saved money for that rainy day that always seems to arrive. Good for you. Love you. 🙂
Before I met my husband I was a spender. Never could save a dime. That had to do with a few things. My age, my leach of an ex boyfriend and my credit card issues. But, Hubby has taught me so much, and just having him for stability as a saver has really inspired me. I am now DEBT FREE!!! And loving it. I love the faces on the cashiers trying to push their stores' credit cards to me when I look at them and say, "If I can't afford it with cash, I don't need it." No thanks!!!! I am slowly becoming a saver, but it is tough since my check is the one we use for all the bills, food and Megan. So there's little left at the end of the day. But in the last year, my spending habits have diminished so that is helping. I know longer feel the need for retail therapy or shopping each day at lunch!!!
Debt free is a wonderful thing. Good for you for having a husband that knows how to be debt free. I hear you on the paycheck though. Sometimes one paycheck just isn't enough. 🙂
