Thankful Thursday

It’s Thankful Thursday hosted by Brian of Brian’s Home. He wants us to post what we’re thankful for.

I think it’s a good thing to do each week. Focus on the positive things in our lives.

Make sure you link up to the Blog Hop at Brian’s Home and get the code to put on your blog. Then visit all the participants.

I’m thankful that hubby and I are continuing on our quest to upgrade our home. Last year we replaced all the windows and got rid of the mini blinds and went with shutters. When we moved in 20 years ago styles were different. We have carpet downstairs and we don’t care for it anymore. Our kitchen countertops and sink have seen better days, so we went shopping.

The first photograph is the sink, faucet and drying rack we ordered. The sink will be in white, not black. The second shot is the new countertop and backsplash. The small piece is the color the sink will be. The last shot is the new flooring. No more carpet. The flooring and counter tops go wonderfully together and we have lots of dark cherry wood with our cabinets and book cases. This lighter color blends in with everything. We are happy. Now to get it installed.

What are you thankful for today?

All excellent choices. LOVE the flooring. What a fun project. I remember years ago redoing the kitchen. It was a mess but once it was done I was thrilled. Of course that was over 20 years ago so it could use a facelift now.

Love it all! Mom is starting to slowly work on our house too. We are starting with new light fixtures in some of the rooms on the main floor, and some landscaping changes outside. It is not cheap to upgrade things, so we are doing in little by little. You will love the new kitchen once that is done!

congrats on your update, we need one also… ours has been the same for 32 years and the 80’s are still living here. there will be much uproar from the installing part but will be gorgeous when completed. updates add to keep your home at top value if it had to sell. my hubby says balderdash and if it an’t broke don’t change it. alas, no update for me

I am so excited for your upgrading project in your home. Wonderful and beautiful changes to your house. Looking forward to more posts on the new project.

How exciting for you Sandee. Love the colour of the floor and the kitchen countertop too. Good luck with the project.

looks like it will be GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!! I have 3 wonderful drying racks made by Chef Curtis Stone that I ordered on HSN. They come in assorted colors and also function as trivets, baking racks etc…….they withstand heat up to 500 degrees F. (obviously you can move them around), I use one of them in the bathroom sink to keep Roary out of the sink (don’t want him licking cleaning products)…..we have Pergo floors (are yours Pergo or real hardwood?) We love it!! Yours is just beautiful! Use them in good health as they say. Today I am thankful that Roary is one!!! He’s outgrown at least some of his kitten craziness!

Ooo love the choices! It’s great to be renovating various bits around the house, and some pretty big ones too like windows last year and now flooring. I’m not a big fan of carpet these days either. I’d love wooden or basic laminate flooring, which would be so much easier to keep clean and hygienic. Enjoy seeing the transformation! xx

Beautiful selections based on the samples. We will NEED fuller pics when the job is done, or better yet, in progress shots. 😉

I too am working on the house, but it is pretty much a solitary endeavour. The house was built in 1956 and as I am in a very rural area, the kitchen cupboards are made of plywood and built into the walls. To replace them, I would have to knock everything back to the studs. That would mean I would have to do ALL the electrical to the house and there would be asbestos mitigation involved-too expensive. So I am repainting. The cupboards have to be carefully sanded as the original paint was lead based. Good thing Covid has made getting the right masks, that plus a terrific orbital sander with a special catch bag. It is taking time. (The kitchen was the only room NOT painted the last time I painted the house, so it will take the longest). Being old, I am moving slow and I am hoping to be done by the fall. Then onto the rest of the house. I LOVE your sink counter top and the wood!
Thanks so very much for commenting and sending Marv chin skritches, I always make sure that he gets them! I hope you have a marvellous day!

What excellent choices!!! It will be beautiful when it is done. Our peeps had the kitchen and bathrooms updated over the past few years. It is agony while the work is going on, but so nice to see when it is done.

That combination is going to look beautiful! Our mom tore up one of the bathrooms and has most of the stuff waiting to renovate, but needs a plumber to do some things first. It’ll happen soon, probably.
We’re thankful that our blind senior kitty, Midnight, is doing really really well these days. Last year there were questionable kidney issues, but everything is under control now and she’s very healthy.

    • Sandee says:

We worked hard to make sure everything would flow together. Needed the browns with the red tinges. We can’t wait for them to start. Yay on Midnight. Great news. 🙂

  14. kittiesblue says:

Wow, Sandee, everything is beautiful. I really, really like that countertop. Is it quartz? We redid our kitchen in 2009. I waited 25 years to redo it. It was ugly when we moved in, and I put up with it for 25 years. Getting someone to do the work definitely will be the hardest part! Please share photo when it is done. Purrs from Cooper Murphy and Sawyer and hugs from me, Janet

    • Sandee says:

That was a good style. Ours are just looking bad so we’re updating to the current styles. I remember as a young adult going into an old persons home and being taken back 40-50 years. I don’t want to be that old person. I love you Kismet. 🙂

  15. Jan K says:

Oh, that’s so fun, and it’s going to be beautiful! I am longing for a new kitchen sink and countertop….hopefully we will get to do that soon. I hope you share completed pictures! What material is your countertop?
