A Day I Will Never Forget

The September 11 attacks were the deadliest terrorist attacks in human history, causing the deaths of 2,996 people, including 19 hijackers who committed murder–suicide and 2,977 victims. Thousands more were injured, and long-term health effects have arisen as a consequence of the attacks. New York City took the brunt of the death toll when the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan were attacked, with an estimated 1,700 victims from the North Tower and around a thousand from the South Tower. 200 mi (320 km) southwest in Arlington County, Virginia, another 125 were killed in the Pentagon. The remaining 265 fatalities included the 92 passengers and crew of American Airlines Flight 11, the 65 aboard United Airlines Flight 175, the 64 aboard American Airlines Flight 77 and the 44 aboard United Airlines Flight 93. The attack on the World Trade Center’s North Tower alone made the September 11 attacks the deadliest act of terrorism in human history. Source: Wikipedia

A terrible day never to be forgotten. Also a day to remember the thousands of heroes who didn’t think of their own safety, but trying to help others.

It was truly unforgettable……we were not at home that day – we were on vacation and out of the country that we love…..unable to communicate with family or fly back home for days. Beside ourselves just THINKING about the loss of life was overwhelming. We wanted to be home but had to wait days before the first flights were allowed back into the country but the whole plane full of people cheered and cried tears of joy when we landed……..Forget? NEVER!

    Love, Pam

Mom was living in Germany at the time so it was a bit different than if she had been living here, but it was a complete shock she said. Being 7 hours ahead, she first heard about it on the radio in the car on her way home from a class she had been at all day. Very tragic, scary, and still unfathomable.

A very dark day in our nation’s history. Many of us remember where we were when it happened. We’re into a generation that has only read about this in history books, which cannot really capture the raw emotion of the event. I find it sad that our country has not felt that level of unity since.

    • Sandee says:

Our emotions were raw, indeed. I will never forget that horrific day. You’re right about the unity. Our politicians and media make sure we are divided. 🙂

      • Tails Around the Ranch says:

Thanks, Sandee. It’s very disturbing. When media reports it as news, it gets branded as political stirring up. I’m so sick of both extremes pointing the finger at the other. All political violence should be abhorred, not selectively used to posture one’s political leanings. There’s plenty of sanctimonious hypocrisy on both sides unfortunately. Hugs to you and the kitties.

A terrible tragedy with world-wide implications! 😢 I think we all remember exactly what we were doing when we heard the news. That image of the burning Twin Towers never fades from the mind… 💔

I was at work, and someone came into our area and told us that planes had hit the World Trade Center and Pentagon. and that one tower had “partially collapsed” I couldn’t believe it, and I called my husband, who was home that day. He confirmed what was happening. Our management found a TV set, put it in the cafeteria and we gathered around, listening to network news coverage and we watched as the South WTC tower collapsed. Later that week I had a medical appointment and one of the workers told me her brother, a pilot, had been scheduled to fly out of Boston that morning. It was just shear luck that the terrorists hadn’t chosen his plane . I had nightmares for several months after. I will never forget that day. Alana ramblinwitham

I will always remember the events of that horrific day and the evil people responsible for it all. We will remember all those lost. Thanks for joining Angel Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

It seems like yesterday. My Grampy, on that day, when he was called by a woman to discuss a friend who died on a flight, said to her: “I never liked those damn buildings.” Then he hung up the phone
