Dr. Seuss Day

Today we are going to celebrate Dr. Seuss Day. This is even happier than the usual Happy Tuesday. Who doesn’t love Dr. Seuss?

Held annually on March 2nd, Dr. Seuss Day is a holiday that celebrates the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel – otherwise known by the pen name by which he authored children’s books: Dr. Seuss. During the 1990s, the National Education Association advocated for a day to celebrate reading all over the United States. In 1998, it started Read Across America and decided to hold it on the same day as Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

The wonderful Dr Seuss! It’s so good to have this day celebrated. Apparently some schools in the UK are banning Dr Seuss for ‘racial undertones’ and lack of diversity in the characters 🙁
I think the characters & stories and quotes are wonderful, and a great way to get kids interested in reading while being loved by adults too.

Happy Dr Seuss Day, Sandee xx

  2. Skunk says:

Seymour’s contribution to this day was something like “Doctors are red, Seuss’s are blue, Element sez that I screwed that up too…PHFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT!” Alexa just face palmed for the first time.

    • Sandee says:

I was in tears this morning when I got up and no comments were allowed. That wasn’t the only issue, but it was the most frustrating. I’m so glad you came back honey. Love and hugs. 🙂

  3. capost2k says:

How sad that on Dr. Seuss Day we learn that he is being accused of being racist and insensitive. The “woke” culture will cancel anyone.
“Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech.” Benjamin Franklin

  4. Kitties Blue says:

Thanks for Linking up Periwinkle and Stinky. I would love to visit the Statue Garden in Springfield. Maybe, when we can all travel again. I was to Springfield many, many years ago and unfortunately didn’t know this existed. Happy Dr. Seuss/Read Across America Day. Warm hugs, Janet

  5. UP says:

These people won’t be happy until our entire culture is erased. I’m not a big fan of Dr. Seuss for other reasons, mostly because he teaches kids to disobey and lie about it. But I don’t think he was a racist by any stretch of the imagination. They’re pretty much harmless books

  6. Valentine says:

Miss Sandee, thanks for spreading the message about books, learning, and Dr. Seuss. Mom and I will continue to enjoy his stories and characters. Purr purr purr.

  7. The Gang at LLB says:

Dr. Seuss help unlock the world of reading for me, and I’ll always be thankful!!

    Have a Seussical Day!

  8. The OP Pack says:

Dr. Seuss was so very wise and he shared all that wisdom through his books. Thank you for sponsoring the Blog Hop for today.

    Happy Dr. Seuss Day!!!

  9. Xena and Lucy says:

When my boys were little I read to them a lot, and they loved it. I don’t think there will be any more children in my life to read to, so maybe my pups would enjoy it!

  10. Jen says:

We dressed up on Dr. Seuss day here! We had the Cat in the Hat and a little who. It was quite fun! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend 🙂
