Iceland

Iceland went through a prohibition of beer which began in 1915 and ended in 1989 after a referendum vote by the population. Now, every March 1^st, the country celebrates “Bjórdagurinn” or “Beer Day” commemorating the end of a 74-year beer ban. Source: The Real World

Happy 4th of July America

On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was adopted and the United States separated itself from Great Britain. This document declared that all men are “created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, and that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” With these powerful and moving words, our forefathers formed a brand new nation with a vision of freedom and democracy that would forever change history.

• In 1776, there were 2.5 million people living in the new nation. Today there are over 318 million.
• There are more than 30 towns nationwide that have the word “Liberty” in their names.
• Approximately 150 million hotdogs are consumed on the Fourth of July.
• Around $675 million dollars will be spent by consumers for fireworks on the Fourth of July. Source: The Fact Base

Snowflakes

How long does it take for a snowflake to reach earth? The hour-long journey of a snowflake from the cloud to the Earth’s surface is influenced by several factors. The speed at which a snowflake falls depends on its size and shape. Generally, larger snowflakes fall faster than smaller ones due to their greater mass. However, the complexity of a snowflake’s structure can also affect its fall rate.

Furthermore, the temperature and humidity of the air play a crucial role in determining the snowflake’s descent time. Colder temperatures and higher humidity levels tend to slow down the fall of snowflakes. As a result, snowflakes can take longer to reach the ground in certain weather conditions.
