WW is a simple blog post featuring a photo which conveys a message that speaks for itself without using words.

About April

April Fools Day began in France during the 16th century, after the New year calendar was moved from April 1st to January 1st. Those who continued to celebrate the April new year were considered fools, and often the victims of practical jokes. Today we just like to have a little fun with our friends!

Many festivals occur in April. In Washington DC, there is the beautiful Cherry Blossom Festival. New Orleans hosts its Jazz and Heritage Festival and Atlanta celebrates its annual Dogwood Festival. In St. Louis, thousands come out to participate in the annual Earth Day Festival.

April has two birth flowers. Both the daisy and the sweet pea are considered birth flowers for the month of April. The sweet pea signifies blissful pleasure, while daisies represent childhood innocence, loyalty, and purity. Source: Educate Today

Hopefully the dogwood festival in Atlanta isn’t too big as we have to drive through there during those dates! No festivals around here, it is just waiting for the ugly look to slowly turn green and in a couple weeks have some flowers pop up which might include the ever popular, not, dandelions!

I was just wondering how April’s Fool came to be. Thanks for the tidbit of history. It certainly makes a lot of sense to celebrate a new year when life returns to our world again, but then that’s not true for all parts. I wonder if that’s why it got moved to Jan. 1st? Oh well…I’m now a little smarter thanks to you. 😉

  13. Betty – Hello, I am Betty, the author of this blog, and this is my husband, Dan. I retired on 6/30/2018, and Dan retired about a year later, on 5/31/2019. Now that we are both retired, we plan to travel most often in our 23FBKS Micro Lite travel trailer. We also hope to travel other ways occasionally, such as taking a cruise, a roadtrip, perhaps a tour someday. In addition to travel, we like to walk, ride bikes, read, and play Scrabble. I love to write. This blog chronicles our travels in retirement. My purpose in writing this blog is: 1) to offer insight for those who may be making similar trips/adventures in the future 2) to share our adventures with family and friends who care to read and 3) to capture the memories for us. I hope you enjoy reading my blog. I hope it is uplifting, gives you a few smiles and maybe an idea or two. Comments are very much appreciated, and I will respond to all. Thank you for reading, and Happy Travels!
