Hot Air Balloon
The pioneers of hot-air balloon travel were not brave men but a rooster, a sheep, and a duck that were sent up in the innovative contraption invented by brothers Joseph-Michel and Jacques-รtienne Montgolfier at the end of the 1700s. They were placed in a cage suspended beneath the balloon, and, after eight minutes, ended up landing about two miles from where they took offโbut all were alive and well.
Linking up with a bunch of fantastic peeps from the blogosphere who host Wordless Wednesday โ Betty, Steve, image-in-ing, Keith, Senior Salon, Esme Salon, CatSynth, and Suzana.

I would have gone up myself. Thank you so much for hosting! Wishing you a lovely week.
-Soma
I couldn’t ride in one of these, but would love to see them from the ground. So beautiful. Happy rest of the week, Soma. ๐
Love hot air balloons! We live next to an elementary school with a big playground and when we first moved here over 25 years ago they allowed balloonists to launch from there – that means they’d come right over our house as they went up up and away – often we’d be outside when that happened and they’d say “hello” to us as they silently floated away. We miss them!
Hugs, Teddy
How wonderful. I would love to see these from the ground. they are so beautiful and colorful. A hug to you and lots of scritches to Teddy. ๐
I used to want to go up in a balloon when I was younger but not anymoreโบ
I would have done this in my younger years, but not more. I’m with you. Scritches to handsome Duke. ๐
It’s another experience I’d never had. I was only in a small aircraft with double command.
And it was fabulous. When you do not have contact with the ground, you really feel the a sort of freedom,
… if you do not panique…
Thank you, dear Sandee! Hugs, Happy WW and a fabulous week!โค๏ธ๐
I’ve not had this experience either. I find the balloons so beautiful. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week, Suzana. Big hugs. ๐
I like seeing them float but not get in one for sure… did not know about the animal flights..
I didn’t know about the animals either. I’m glad they survived the trip. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week, Sandra. Scritches to Beau. ๐
That’s something I’ve learned today! Thanks, Sandee!
I didn’t know about this first flight either. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week, Keith. ๐
I didn’t know that animals were sent up for the first time. I once had an embarrassing experience with one early on in our marriage. I was in bed early in the morning and heard a strange noise. I rushed out to the kitchen window butt naked and pulled the curtains back only to come face to face with people landing in the field outside. We didn’t have a hedge there only a fence back then. The noise was them trying unsuccessfully to get some height. I sent Ivor out and kept well out of the way!
You made me laugh out loud with the being butt naked and pulling the curtains back. My laugh of the morning. Love and hugs to you, my friend. ๐
Super cute new header. Someone has been in a spring cleaning mode on their blog ๐ Mom likes to look at the hot air balloons but she is afraid to go up in one.
Kymber did a blog makeover for me. She’s so talented. I’m going to do more headers for different times of the year, I love to look at the hot air balloons too, but I’m not going up in one. Scritches to the pups. ๐
I’ve never been in one but I’ve been up close at an annual hot air balloon festival our community hosts and have seen the process of the launch – it’s fascinating and exciting. Alana ramblinwitham.
I’ve never been that close, but I would love to be. Not riding in one though. Heights are not my friend anymore. Happy Wordless Wednesday. ๐
Mom’s only been in one that was tethered but one landed in her yard when she lived in NJ.
They are so beautiful, but I would be afraid to go up in one. Happy Wordless Wednesday. Scritches to the kitties. ๐
I love seeing hot air balloons gliding through the sky. Helen, Georgia holds a hot air balloon race once a year. I’ve never been in a hot air balloon, but I have been in a blimp. I love your new headers. Happy Wednesday!
I love seeing them too. So colorful and beautiful. Thank you on the new headers. I love them too. Happy Wordless Wednesday, my friend. Hugs. ๐
You’re welcome, Sandee. Have a great day! ๐
Thatโs such an interesting story! Iโve never been up in a balloon, and am not sure if I actually want to. Haha. Have a great Wednesday, Sandee!๐
I’ve not been up in one either and I don’t want to. I’m to old for this now. Happy Wordless Wednesday, my friend. ๐
Maybe one day I will try it!
If you do, let us know all about it, Deb. Happy Wordless Wednesday. ๐
I had never heard that before very interesting. I love the new header. Thanks for hosting. Have a nice day. XO
I didn’t know about the first flight either. Thank you on the new headers. Kymber did a fabulous job on my blog facelift. You have a great day too, Ellen. A hug to you and lots of scritches to all the kitties. ๐
Well isn’t that interesting. I’m surprised that the rooster and the duck didn’t try to fly out.
They were in a cage so they couldn’t fly out. I’ll bet they were scared though. Happy Wednesday, Ann. Hugs. ๐
I’m surprised the sheep and duck were still alive, rooming with a rooster!
You made me laugh out loud. Good one. Happy Wordless Wednesday. Scritches to the pups. ๐
It would be fun to go up in a hot air balloon.
In my younger years I would go. Not now though. I want my feet on the ground. Happy day and rest of the week, my friend. ๐
Sandee a hot air balloon reminds me of a very graceful ballerina…and of course I love all the vibrant colors of the balloons
Hugs Cecilia
You’re right about that and I love all the vibrant colors too. So beautiful. Happy Wordless Wednesday. Love and hugs, my friend. ๐
Love watching them float across the sky!
That makes two of us. So beautiful. ๐
Those big balloons sure are pretty. We had one crash land in our lake several years ago, it was a pretty exciting splash down but everyone was okay.
That must have been scary for you to watch and even more scary for those in the balloon. Glad they were okay. Happy Wordless Wednesday, my friend. Scritches to the kitties. ๐
Interesting to learn the history behind hot air balloons! I’ve never seen one in person. Happy Wednesday, Sandee! ๐ท
I didn’t know about this first flight. I’ve not seen one in person either. I would love to. Happy Wednesday, Debbie. ๐
Love the new graphics! ๐ Kymber is very talented.
Thanks for the history lesson on hot air balloons and for the gorgeous picture that went with it. ๐ฅฐ
You’re most welcome. The balloons are so beautiful and colorful. Scritches to beautiful Dani. ๐
I always thought a balloon ride would be great fun.
I thought so too in my youth, but not at my age now. Happy Wordless Wednesday, my friend. ๐
I love your new Blog look. I love you my Only.
Thank you for helping me with it. I love you, my Only. ๐
Fabulous new header, Sandee! What fascinating info about that first balloon ride with critters.
I had no idea about the critters doing the first flight. I learn something new every single day. Happy Wednesday and rest of the week. A big hug to you and lots of scritches to Wilson. ๐
I loved learning about the first air balloon ride! I still have going up in one on my bucket list. ๐
If you go please let us know. Thank you for all the hard work you did giving my blog a facelift. I love it. Happy Wordless Wednesday, Kymber. ๐
I will definitely let you know. ๐ Thank you for trusting me to do it. ๐ I’m glad you love it.
Happy Wordless Wednesday, Sandee! ๐
I love your new header pic. It’s beautiful!
When I lived in NY there used to be a hot air balloon festival each year. I loved watching them in the air. I have never been in one. I’m just a spectator ๐ Have a great day and rest of the week!
Thank you on the new headers. I love them too. I love hot air balloons. They are beautiful and I love the vibrant colors. You have a great day and rest of the week, too Yvonne. ๐
We once did a hot air balloon trip in the Serengeti, Ngorongoro crater, in Northern Tanzania., an unforgettable experience
Thanks, Sandee, for the party. Happy Wednesday.
My entries this week #44+45
Hope you will join ES #WW https://esmesalon.com/tag/wordlesswednesday/ NOW OPEN
If I were younger I would do it, but I’m in my 70s and I don’t think so. Happy Wordless Wednesday, my friend. Hugs. ๐
No need to be afraid to do it, I did it not that long ago, and had loads of fun. Age does not matter in this case.
You know hot air balloons are one of my favorite things too! Come visit us here in Albuquerque in October during the Balloon Festival…the skies are filled with color!
I would love to. I know they have fabulous balloon festivals. It would be most fun. ๐
We are number 50! The blog hop is hopping! lol
We are definitely rule breakers, but we know you mind! Happy hump day!
The hop is hopping. Being a rule breaker is a good thing. Happy hump day. ๐
That must have been a noisy fly for the animals, poor darlings, but glad they landed safely๐ผOnce they were flying over our garden, and that was very loud, almost scary๐Double Pawkisses for a Happy Day and Week ahead to you, dear Sandee, Zane and the kitties too๐พ๐ฝ๐
I felt bad for them too. Double Pawkisses to you both and a big hug to Granny. ๐
It looks interesting, but I would never go up in one. Too scared. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
That makes two of us, Patrick. Happy Wordless Wednesday. ๐
Wouldn’t want to go in one but they are beautiful!
That makes two of us. I used to be fearless, but that’s changed. Happy Wordless Wednesday. ๐
That I did not know, Sandee. Hot air ballons are fascinating… but I would prefer to stay on the ground, thanks.
Thank you, Sandee. Blessings to you.
I’ll stay with you and we can watch them. We’d have fun. Blessing to you, Suzette. Hugs. ๐
Yes, we would! Thank you, Sandee.
I like the idea of going up in a hot air balloon but you’ll never catch me doing it. I get dizzy getting on top of the house or anything high. Hot air balloons are spectacular to see floating across the sky, though. ๐
I’m 73 years old. My fearless days are over. I’m afraid of hurting myself or falling down. Love and hugs, Cathy. ๐
I don’t think I ever had “fearless” days. I’ve always been a scaredy Cathy. I totally get what you’re saying about falling or hurting yourself. We all have to be more careful to make sure that doesn’t happen. Watch those kitties, they can get underfoot when you least expect it. Mom feeds and shelters stray cats. They always try to rush into the house. I worry they’re going to trip her. Now one of the cats had kittens. This increases her chance of falling. I pray that it doesn’t happen. She turned 80 last week and already has issues with one of her legs.
Lovely hot air balloon photos and wonderful new look to your blog ~
Hugs and love to you and your family ~
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

I love my new looks. Kymber did an excellent job doing a facelift on my blog. I’m thrilled. Love and hugs to you and Ziggy. ๐
They are such fun to watch! I’m glad the first passengers survived.
I pray you and Mr. Zane have a great rest of your week and please scritch Lil’ Bit and Squeaker for me.
Me too. I didn’t know they put animals in for the first flight. Love and hugs to you my friend. ๐
wouldn’t be so eager to ride in one, but great to take photos of.
I’m with you, Klara. Happy Wordless Wednesday. ๐

Crazy to think the first hot-air balloon passengers were a rooster, sheep, and duck! ๐๐๐ฆ Gotta love how the Montgolfier brothers kicked off aviation history!
Happy Thursday, Sandee!
I was surprised by that too. Poor babies. You’re right about kicking off aviation history. Happy day and rest of the week, Veronica. Hugs. ๐
Interesting about the first to ride in a hot air balloon. They had no choice in the matter though. Glad they survived. Still I like to see one floating over. ๐
I’m glad they survived, too. I love seeing them, too. Hugs. ๐
I just wonder what the rooster sheep and duck were thinking during the trip ๐ค Most likely “Ohh Krap!”๐คฃ๐๐
I think you nailed what they were thinking. Bravo. ๐
Many years ago, my parents gifted my spouse and me a hot air balloon ride. It was amazing, though the virtual crash landing wasn’t. lol Be well, my dear.
In my younger years, I would have loved to do this. The virtual landing I would pass. We, well, my friend. Hugs. ๐
