Wordless Wednesday

WW is a simple blog post featuring a photo which conveys a message that speaks for itself without using words.

For all the rule breakers, of which I am one, please feel free to add all the words you want.

When Alaska and Hawaii were being considered for statehood in the 1950s, more than 1,500 designs were submitted to President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Although some were 49-star versions, the vast majority were 50-star proposals. At least three of these designs were identical to the present design of the 50-star flag. At the time, credit was given by the executive department to the United States Army Institute of Heraldry for the design. The 49- and 50-star flags were each flown for the first time at Fort McHenry on Independence Day, in 1959 and 1960 respectively. Source: Wikipedia

Thanks for the info – we LOVE the American flag and all it stands for. My Dad instilled a huge sense of patriotism in me and it burns brightly to this day……no matter what……

    Hugs, Pam (and Teddy too!)

    • The same happened with my parents. We love this country and our precious flag. 🙂

    • I’m guessing every country has interesting facts about their flag. Hugs, my friend. 🙂

    • I found this very interesting. Happy day and rest of the week, Ann. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to Gibbs. 🙂

  3. This is the only flag our mom really knows but it is crazy to think just a few years before she was born there was one with only 49 stars.

    • It’s a cool tidbit of history. Have a fabulous day and rest of the week. Scritches to the pups. 🙂

That is interesting to know. There is a quiz show every weekday afternoon which I like to watch. One of the questions was how many stars were on the American Flag in 1959. I said 50 so now I know why I was wrong.

    • I didn’t know this either. Have a fabulous day and week, Jackie. Love and hugs. 🙂

    • I agree with you. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week, my friend. 🙂

    • There are so many interesting tidbits of history. Scritches to the kitties and a big hug to mom. 🙂

    • I agree with you. Happy day and rest of the week, my friend. Thanks for the delicious cookies this morning. 🙂
