The Shining’s Overlook Hotel
Stephen King published his third novel, The Shining, in 1977 and the book quickly became the iconic horror author’s first bestseller. Adapted for the screen by director Stanley Kubrick in 1980, The Shining has since become one of King’s most widely known and applauded literary works.
Following Jack Torrance, his wife Wendy, and their son Danny to the grand, but remote Overlook Hotel during a harsh Colorado winter, The Shining explores both psychological and physical horror. After accepting the job of caretaker at the Overlook, Jack, a troubled writer and recovering alcoholic, begins to experience symptoms of cabin fever while Danny sees a number of ghosts throughout the grounds of the hotel. As tensions tighten amongst the small family, Jack’s anger issues and drinking problem making him increasingly irritable, the weather worsens and the Torrances become trapped in their own isolated nightmare.

I haven’t seen the movie. I have heard of it though and know the main idea of it. I’m too chicken to read scary things and I definitely would not want to stay there. 😉
This movie is mind bending, but I loved it so. I didn’t read the book and I think it has a bit of a different ending. A great thriller. 🙂

We don’t like scary stories, but that hotel looks like it could make a good place for scary scenes.
I love this movie. It’s mind bending. Isolation is what comes to mind. 🙂
I read Kings first two books but never finished The Shining and only watched the first half of the movie before turning it off. that is an awesome place in the photo. I like scary stories but this one I could not read. King became to much for me and I only read 2 more.
I did okay with his books/movies until Pet Cemetery and that was it for me. I hear you. 🙂
Having seen The Shining, I don’t think we’ll be staying at that hotel anytime soon. It is cool looking, though!

I was all set to spend the night in this magnificent structure, then I read the back story. Guess I’ll be sleeping at Holiday Inn Express.

Not sure how true it is but years ago I heard that King dreams a lot about what he writes about. To me, that would be scary if I was dreaming that stuff but thinking of him, its just as scary cause I worry about that mind of his!
He does have a twisted mind and it’s gotten worse as the years have passes. This one was pretty mind compared to his later books/movies. 🙂
A terrible book 😨 as are most of King’s demonic visions. Read them carefully and with prayers for spiritual discernment and protection!

Mom used to love reading Stephen King books, but age has made her a wee bit more easily scared. We don’t think she would ever want to stay in that massive hotel.

Though dad loves the movie, he and mom feel that the book was much better. Dad also says that he’d love to find a position like that (without the personal issues, of course).
