Heidelberg Castle is a ruin in Germany and landmark of Heidelberg. The castle ruins are among the most important Renaissance structures north of the Alps.

The castle has only been partially rebuilt since its demolition in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is located 80 metres (260 ft) up the northern part of the Königstuhl hillside, and thereby dominates the view of the old downtown. It is served by an intermediate station on the Heidelberger Bergbahn funicular railway that runs from Heidelberg’s Kornmarkt to the summit of the Königstuhl.

The earliest castle structure was built before 1214 and later expanded into two castles circa 1294; however, in 1537, a lightning bolt destroyed the upper castle. The present structures had been expanded by 1650, before damage by later wars and fires. In 1764, another lightning bolt caused a fire which destroyed some rebuilt sections. Source: Wikipedia

  1. Memories of Eric and Flynn – I started this blog to show my holiday photos but haven't added to it for so long, but you can see my other holiday photos at https://allatseawithme.blogspot.com My main blog is my cat blog at https://twodevoncats.blogspot.com

It looks beautiful all lit up. My first reaction was that it reminded me of when we sailed into Malta in the very early hours once. It looks nothing like Malta, but the lights brought back magical memories of seeing the old town lit up from the sea.

    • It’s beautiful and I’d love to see this in person. 🙂

  2. What a nice capture looks lovely all lit up 🙂
    Have a safetastic WWS & week 😷😷😷

Thanks for adding me Sandee 🙂

    • It does indeed. I’d love to be out on the water taking pictures of this castle. 🙂

  3. WOW! That looks like an amazing place, Sandee. We’ve never been to Heidelberg, besides on picture 😉 but certainly will do and visit this place😸Clean Pawkisses for a Happy Wednesday. Stay Safe Healthy and Yourselfie🙏🐾😽💞

    • It sure does, Little Binky. I’ve not been there either and probably will never make it there, but I love to explore all the places that I can find right here on my computer. 🙂

    • I’ve not been to Europe either. I’ll never make it there now. We don’t fly anymore. 🙂

  4. Yep, Mom has been there. It is a very cool town. She has a shirt that says she lost her heart in Heidelberg.

    • I’m sure it is. I love this shot and love castles. 🙂

  5. foguth – Though Jeanne began her career technical writing, her love of romantic-suspense, whether it be present, future or in an unknown galaxy inspired her to write the novels she wanted to find in bookstores. Since marrying, Jeanne and her husband have lived from the arctic to the tropics, as well as from yacht to off-grid mountain home. She loves using vivid colors and flowing shapes in her oil paintings as well as creating edible landscapes. At present, she is finishing writing the Chatterre Trilogy and working on a new episode for The Sea Purrtector Files. You can always find out what she is working on and/or contact her at: www.jeannefoguth.com.

  6. We were in Heidelberg, so very long ago. It felt like fairy tale castles were coming to life as we toured such places, at least to me.

A blessed and beautiful Wednesday to you and Mr. Zane!

    • You’ve sure traveled a lot. We’ve not been to very many places. You have a blessed and beautiful Wednesday too, my friend. 🙂

  8. Deborah – South San Francisco, CA – I am a Wise Woman who has been on a spiritual journey for many years. My wisdom was not gained through a higher education but through the University Of Life and all the insight, knowledge gained through the pain of trials and tribulations on the path of weeping to healing. Though I have come a long way, I am not done yet! I still have much wisdom to gain, more growth through pain, and the beauty of spirit that come by continual shedding of the old to receive the new! Sweet Blessings!

  10. What a beautiful castle, and beautiful surroundings as well. I’m more of a country girl, but there is something about the lights of a city that attract me too!

    • I’m not a big city girl either. I hate the big cities. I’m more of a country girl too and we live in a very small town. Doesn’t even have a stop light it’s so small. Works for us. 🙂

    • It’s doesn’t indeed. It’s beautiful. You have a great day too, Ellen. 🙂
