Scotty’s Castle
Scotty’s Castle (also known as Death Valley Ranch) is a two-story Mission Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival style villa located in the Grapevine Mountains of northern Death Valley in Death Valley National Park, California, US. Scotty’s Castle is named for gold prospector Walter E. Scott, although Scott never owned it, nor is it an actual castle.
The ranch is located about 45 miles (72 km) north of Stovepipe Wells, California, via California State Route 190 to Scotty’s Castle Road, or about a three-hour drive from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Scotty’s Castle was severely damaged by flooding in October 2015, and a fire in 2021 that destroyed the historic garage/workshop that was used as the visitor center. Scotty’s Castle is temporarily closed to the public. Source: Wikipedia

Hubby and I went there in the mid 90s. It was an amazing place. 🙂

They have had a couple of really bad luck moments. Glad it’s still standing. I hope it is able to be opened to the public again (if that’s what they want). Wishing you a happy day!

We didn’t know until we got there. We had to see it and we enjoyed it very much. 🙂

At first glance, my eyes only see a southwest-style villa and it’s the tower component of the architectural design that makes you think castle. That’s quite interesting. I wonder what inspired this?

I have been to Death Valley many times (a special place for me), but I have never been to Scotty’s Castle – it’s been closed each time for all the reasons. But I’m glad it’s still there and hopefully one day I will get to see it in person.
By complete coincidence I also have a castle in the desert this week for WW 😺
Someone told us about Scotty’s Castle when we visited in the 90s and we were there the next day. It’s way up into the foothills. 🙂
