Cool Hand Luke – 1967
When petty criminal Luke Jackson (Paul Newman) is sentenced to two years in a Florida prison farm, he doesn’t play by the rules of either the sadistic warden (Strother Martin) or the yard’s resident heavy, Dragline (George Kennedy), who ends up admiring the new guy’s unbreakable will. Luke’s bravado, even in the face of repeated stints in the prison’s dreaded solitary confinement cell, “the box,” make him a rebel hero to his fellow convicts and a thorn in the side of the prison officers. Filming began on October 3, 1966, on the San Joaquin River Delta. The set, imitating a southern prison farm, was built in Stockton, California. The filmmakers sent a crew to Tavares Road Prison in Tavares, Florida, where Pearce had served his time, to take photographs and measurements. The structures built in Stockton included barracks, a mess hall, the warden’s quarters, a guard shack and dog kennels. The trees on the set were decorated with spanish moss that the producers took to the area. The construction soon attracted the attention of a county building inspector who confused it with migrant worker housing and ordered it “condemned for code violations”. The opening scene where Newman cuts the parking meters was filmed in Lodi, California. The scene in which Luke is chased by bloodhounds and other exteriors were shot in Jacksonville, Florida, at Callahan Road Prison. Luke was played by a stunt actor, using dogs from the Florida Department of Corrections. Source: Wikipedia

Have a coolhandtastic week Sandee and thanks for hosting and linking up 👍
You need to see it, Steve. It’s a good one. 🙂
Yeah! Another one that I’ve actually seen.
I thought Newman was so handsome in his younger years. Loved his blue eyes. 🙂
That was a real “classic” ! Always enjoyed Newman’s movies. Hope to see you in the cafeteria this morning! 🙂
Hugs, Pam and Teddy too
I enjoy his movies too. So handsome in his younger years. I enjoyed the cafeteria this morning. I always do. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to Teddy. 🙂
WONDERFUL film, have seen it three times….never tire of it.
It’s a great movie. I know I’ve seen it more than once and it’s on my list to see again. Scritches to Loulou. 🙂
It’s been years since I’ve seen this one.
Same here. Going to watch it again and soon. Scritches to handsome Duke. 🙂
Mom just laughs because she isn’t a movie person and this is another one she has never seen. Of course, she hears all about them, just no interest in watching movies.
I’m not a movie house person. Refuse to go to the movies, but we do enjoy watching them at home. Happy WW and rest of the week. 🙂
I saw this movie ages and ages ago. If I ever have time again, I’ll want to see this, along with some of the other movies you’ve blogged about recently. No failure to communicate here! Alana ramblinwitham
I’ve enjoyed doing this every Wednesday. I love seeing where the movies were filmed. Sometimes it’s a big surprise. Happy WW. 🙂
That was a great film. No post this week. I had a hospital appointment yesterday and forgot it was Wednesday today. I will have to plug in my cruises USB and schedule a few posts!
You do what you need to do. I love seeing a comment from you. Big healing hugs, my friend. 🙂
HOw interesting, especially about the idiot inspector, LOL! Thanks for sharing.
You have that right. Have a fabulous day and rest of the week. A big hug to you and lots of scritches to the precious pups. 🙂
A great classic movie. I remember seeing it a long time ago. Happy Wednesday!
It’s a classic in my book. Have a great day and rest of the week. Hugs. 🙂
You do the same,my friend.
They don’t make films like that any more!
They sure don’t. Happy Wordless Wednesday and rest of the week, Keith. 🙂
That is such a good movie!
I agree with you. I’ve seen it more than once. 🙂
I don’t know if I’ve seen that movie or not.
It’s a good one. I love Paul Newman. 🙂
That is one I have never seen. I don’t think I have ever seen anything with Paul Newman. Thanks for hosting. Have a great day. XO
He was most handsome in his younger years. Those blue eyes were amazing. You have a great day too, Ellen. Scritches to the kitties. 🙂
I cannot imagine how many times someone in our family has said, “What we have here is a failure to communicate.”
I don’t know how many times that phrase has been used in my family either. Happy Wednesday and rest of the week. 🙂
That’s a great movie! I didn’t know about all the background facts, like the set being in Stockton and the opening scene being filmed in Lodi. So cool. Thanks for hosting, Sandee. Have a great week!
It’s in my neighborhood. I go to Stockton now and then and my sister lives in Lodi. You have a great week, too. 🙂
Mom remembers that one!
It was a great movie. I love Paul Newman. 🙂
I’m not sure I have seen this movie…but I did so enjoy Paul Newman. I’m sure Bryan has seen it though.
Hugs Cecilia
I loved all his movies. Hugs and love to you my friend. 🙂
Bryan is 5 years older than I am so I tease him about movies etc.
He still finds it hard to believe I never heard the Shadow on the Radio then he says oh yes I know you were a baby when it was on.
Had read that Paul Newman didn’t eat those eggs; he was able to stick his stomach out like it was full.
I remember that big tummy. A great movie. 🙂
I have seen this movie before, maybe a couple of times in the past. I think i remember I liked it
Wishing you a wonderful Wednesday <3
It’s a great movie. Have a great day and rest of the week, Barbara. Hugs. 🙂
This is one of the few classics I haven’t seen yet. Putting it on the list!
It’s worth the watch. You’ll love it. Scritches to the pups. 🙂
Another iconic movie ~ Paul Newman ~ an ‘actor’s actor ~ and so debonair ~ ya think?

Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

He was such a hotty in his younger years. Those blue eyes. Happy Wednesday. 🙂
I have not seen this movie! But I heard about it. It’s quite interesting the filming locations…parts were filmed in a real prison…wow!
I am a big Paul Newman fan, so this is one for me to check out. Thank you, Sandee. Happy Wordless Wednesday!
I love Paul Newman. He was so handsome in his younger years. Happy Wordless Wednesday, Suzette. 🙂
Yes indeed! Thank you Sandee!
Such a classic movie. I did not know that they had to build some sets in Stockton. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
I didn’t know about this either. Happy Wordless Wednesday, Patrick. 🙂
Awesome movie, enjoyed it back then
Thanks, Sandee, thank you for hosting. Enjoy your day and week

Another great classic. I pray you and Mr. Zane have a fabulous rest of the week, and scritches to the kitties, please.
I agree, my friend. You and Mr Sweetie have a blessed rest of the week. Love and hugs. 🙂
I’ve seen this one. Its been awhile though! I know he was such a popular actor for such a long time. That’s a funny fact about the abandonment. Sounds like the movie set didn’t communicate with the county. 😉 Have a wonderful day!
I was surprised where it was filmed too. You have a wonderful day, my friend. 🙂
Dang…another movie I haven’t seen. I need to expand my movie library! Happy mid-week.
It’s a good movie. Happy mid-week to you. Big hug to you and scritches to the pups. 🙂
I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for the recommendation. The pups and I send hugs and tail wiggles for a great day.

I want to watch it 😀
You’ll like it. Happy Sunday and week, Kinga. 🙂
I never had the stomach to watch that film since seeing it as a child. It should go on my watch list, though, since I have seen “Shawshank Redemption” more than once. 🙂 Be well!
That’s a great movie too. Loved that movie. You be well too, my friend. 🙂
