Wordless Wednesday

WW is a simple blog post featuring a photo which conveys a message that speaks for itself without using words.

For all the rule breakers, of which I am one, please feel free to add all the words you want.

Make sure you leave a link to your post and I’ll visit your Wordless Wednesday post.

Zone Rouge

Covering more than 1,200km2 (463 square miles) in northeastern France, ‘Zone Rouge’ has been closed off since the First World War. These former battlefields are littered with unexploded ammunition, and the soils have been polluted by mercury and arsenic leaching from discarded weaponry. In the worst-affected areas, the soil contains up to 300 shells per hectare. The site’s dedicated clean-up team estimates that it’ll take at least 300 years to clear completely. Never heard of that place. Mom was always shocked when she lived in Germany. They are always finding bombs there still and some are still “alive”. They are even in the harbor in Hamburg. Scary and amazing all in one.

Part of the collateral damage of war…nobody bothers to clean up their mess when it’s over. There are teams still clearing minefields in the farm land of Vietnam 50 years after the troops are gone.

      Sandee says:

I agree with you. These places need to be cleared. Happy day and rest of the week, my friend. 🙂

The many costs of war are gut-wrenching and very sad. What a somber reflection of the times in which we live. Thank you, Sandee, for this painful reminder that peace is never free. And that freedom comes at great cost.

A blessed Wordless Wednesday to you, dear friend. Hugs.

    Katie Isabella says:

You are right. We humans never learn. For a second, maybe even a minute in time, eyes are open to something outside oneself!!!! Imagine that!! And vows to know that, and change oneself are mentioned about…only to recede again. Until perhaps, the next time.

    • Sandee – California – Home of Awww Mondays, Happy Tuesday, and Wordless Wednesday.
      Sandee says:

I don’t think we will ever learn. Happy day and rest of the week. More big healing hugs. 🙂

Sigh! Humans can be so destructive. I hate to think of how we are still doing these things from the wars and “incidents” that are happening around the world now! Thanks for the purrayers (from the Blogosphere). They are working! We woke up this morning to slightly cooler weather, less smoke and (GASP) we might get some moisture later today! Keep up the Purrayers! You guys are AWESOME!

And don't forget to bark your 'pup-tacular' comment; we'd love to hear from you.
    Tails Around the Ranch says:

Holy cow! So sad that it’s already been over a hundred years with a still long time left to go. Thanks for sharing that sobering factoid, Sandee. Yet another reason that war is a bad thing.

    • Sandee – California – Home of Awww Mondays, Happy Tuesday, and Wordless Wednesday.

  15. Lydia C. Lee says:

That’s so terrible. and we haven’t learnt anything since. I went to battle fields in Belgium and we were told not to pick anything up off the ground incase it was an unexploded shell. The farmers there tend to grow lettuce or things with shallow roots because if a body is found, their field is taken over and they can’t farm.

  18. Wing Commander Basil & The B Team – UK – Well, now there's a question! Furstly and most importantly I'm a cat if mew hadn't already guessed. I got my Wing Commander status in September 2018 but that hasn't slowed me up at all! I tweet, Instacat, FB, Tumble & Pin too and now there's Basil TV on YouTube. All in all I'm a thoroughly Modern Cat; a cat of the 21st century, mew might say. My human & Purrsonal Assistant aka P.A. is Cathrine Garnell, and she writes books including a tale about my fictional alter ego, Basil the Bionic Cat. [See Books Page] I live in a multi-cat household, and mew can meet the rest of The B Team here most days of the week, as they all like a turn on the blog. I like mice, but then don't we all? I also like fresh tuna, chicken and prawns. I LOVE catnip, not in any excess I might add before mew jump to any wild conclusions. Thanks so much for dropping by, as we The B Team, love making new furriends, so do leave us a comment and say hi.
Wing Commander Basil & The B Team says:

The P.A.’s grandfather was drafted in WWI… yeah… war sucks! Thank mew for sharing… and thank mew for adding our links this week; mew are truly wonderful! 😻🐾✨🐾😻
