Nachos

Nachos are called nachos because they are named after their inventor, Ignacio “Nacho” Anaya. According to the story, in 1940, a few American women crossed the border into Piedras Negras in Coahuila, Mexico, to do some shopping. They stopped at the Victory Club restaurant looking for something to eat, but it was outside of business hours, so there was no chef or cook there. However, Nacho, the maître d’ at the restaurant, offered to make them something, and he ran into the kitchen, grabbed some fried corn tortilla chips, topped them with Colby cheese and slices of pickled jalapeños, and placed them in the oven. The women loved them and called them Nacho’s special, and the rest is culinary history. Source: BuzzFeed

Some of the best dishes seem to have been created by accident, or out of necessity. This was both. Thanks for the yummy post. Alana ramblinwitham

WOW!!! Those certainly look better than the ones with just some queso (Ro-tel) poured over the chips. That dish is a meal all by itself.
If they are made right it’s a meal. I like mine with chicken. Yummy. Happy day and rest of the week, my friend. 🙂
Looks yummy! Here’s my WW: https://chambersontheroad.com/2026/06/17/wordless-wednesday-6-17-2026/

Thank you for the excellent trivia. I have had nachos in many places, but the ones I had in a small restaurant in Colorado sticks in my memory fondly. I don’t even recall the name of the restaurant.

Nachos, piled high with black beans, veggies and of course the cheese, are so good. Every single ridiculous calorie is worth it. 🙂
I would love that. Yummy. Happy day and rest of the week, my friend. 🙂
Interesting history of a favorite snack! I love nachos! So easy to make and so good to eat. Happy Wednesday <3
I thought so too. I love Nachos very much. Just don’t have them very often. Happy Wednesday. 🙂
Yum! I love them – my waistline and cholesterol do not…
That makes two of us, Lydia. I rarely have this. Very fattening, but so delicious. 🙂
Pretty! My husband and I heard a slightly different but still fun explanation. In that version, the restaurant owner fried the corn tortillas for a quick snack. This one seems more likely, though. lol Hugs, my dear.
You never know what’s true or not, but I always link to where I got the information. Hugs, my friend. 🙂
Those nachos look way fancier than Nacho’s specials. Our mom likes the originals but has not had them in a very long time. Cooper is happy you liked his photo today. Thanks for linking us up. These look so good! The history behind them is interesting, I’m glad he wanted to oblige the ladies. You and Mr. Zane have a blessed rest of the week and please give Lil’ Bit and Squeaker some loving from me.
He did a most wonderful thing. Happy day and rest of the week. Love and hugs. 🙂
Would never have guessed that’s how they originated. Glad they did though. Love them. Yum
That makes two of us, but I’m glad it happened. Happy day and rest of the week. 🙂
Hard to believe a simple mix of chips, cheese, and jalapeños became such a classic. The plate in the photo looks delicious! 😋
