Lobster
Lobster used to be considered the cockroach of the ocean. It may be found in the most luxurious menus now, but lobster was once eaten regularly by the homeless, slaves and prisoners. However, lobster started to be seen as a delicacy after World War II. Source: Facts.net

I love lobster and am mostly only able to have it on cruises. I think I went overboard with it the past two weeks! (Pun was not intended, but it fits 🙂 ) I had lobster canapés every evening, and three times during the cruise, plus surf an turf one night.
About the only lobster dish I like is lobster bisque. It’s a texture thing for me. I’m glad you had a great cruise, Jackie. Love and hugs. 🙂
I forgot about the lobster bisque. I had it as a starter in the steak house. I also had lobster thermidor one night. My most favourite way of eating lobster.
Never tried such a creature… I am not so curious about this kind of food…

Lobster is always #1 on our choices of what to eat when we visit Maine. Once in a while a restaurant around here put it on the menu but it’s NOT QUITE the same as it is in Maine!!!!!

We had a yacht club member that did lobster feeds at least once a year and that’s where he got his lobster. always a packed house. I had something else. 🙂
Mama loves lobster but it’s better when it’s just caught out of the ocean because they do get sort of rubbery if they’re not cooked right. mama’s brother played the bagpipes once on a sailboat and another sailboat to thank him came over in their little boat and gave us a lobster, and that was really good!!!

Back in my cheffing days, Lobster Thermidor was my signature dish. Served in it’s shell with lashings of cream and cognac and topped with cheese….yum yum yum yum!

I can take it or leave it. It’s not my favorite meal but I know lots who love it.

How interesting. Years ago I worked with a girl who grew up in Maine. On one trip home she brought back some lobster. I must say it was most delicious.
I think Maine lobster is the best. That’s according to someone that threw lobster feeds each year. 🙂
We just got home from Maine last night. Lobster is everywhere out there! Mom even bought a shirt with a lobster on it.

I did know this and I don’t think it’s the only food that has a similar story. I like lobster in a lobster roll where you can’t see the original creature, but I can’t eat it if it is in its shell. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

Amazing, isn’t it? I always wonder about the first person who got the idea that a lobster was good to eat under that hard shell.🤔
I have often wondered this as well. What I picture is a guy stranded on an island who could not catch the seagulls that were eating a dead lobster. So he grabbed what the bird had not eaten and cooked it. When he was rescued he brought it to the attention of the longshoremen who proceeded to overcharge for it!!😂

Mom’s Nova Scotia friends said lobster was not considered a luxury when they were growing up. Mom loves lobster!

I never knew this about lobster! To me, it doesn’t have much of a taste – just butter.

I learned just yesterday that prisoners were fed lobster regularly because it was so plentiful. So it’s ironic that I see this post today!
Actually, the Massachusetts Bay Colony passed a law that prisoners could ONLY be fed lobster three times a week!! Oh, to be a criminal back then!!😂

My favorite ~ Lobster ~ Recently reported in the local paper is that lobsters are now dwindling in the lobster catch so price may increase more ~ way of the world ~

I remember clearly the last time, years ago now, I had a fabulous lobster dinner at a restaurant. It was delightful, and they just kept bringing more and more lobster to the table (I was an all you can eat style place). I was so impressed with its freshness and taste! Your post reminds me of my grandmother, laughing that when she was young and dirt poor, they would eat snails from the local waterway, but now folks eat them at ritzy restaurants.

It’s interesting how tastes change like that. My understanding is that the lobster’s transition from poor-person’s food to fancy dining started in later 19th century, but probably did pick up after WWII and greater mobility.
It’s been a little while since I last enjoyed langusta myself 🦞

Looks yummy don’t faint I have never eaten fresh lobster. Had a taste once a Red Lobster but that isn’t like it would taste fresh I’m sure.
When we visit the kiddos and grand kitties on the NC coast we do have lots of good seafood though.
My son in law works in the seafood lab and NCSU down there.

Some of my mother’s uncles were lobster fishermen. She always said you knew the poor kids, they were the ones who had lobster sandwiches in their school lunches.

My husband and I watched a Youtube video about how lobsters don’t age like mammals. It’s fascinating and also sad because when they age out it’s because they can no longer molt. That sounds painful. ~shudder~ Hugs, my dear.
