All About Sleep

New parents lose around 750 hours of sleep in the first year of their firstborn’s birth. On average, new parents will only get an average of 4-5 hours of sleep a day due to the newborn’s many needs. During the first year of a newborn’s life, new parents will lose about 59% of their resting time to cater to their newborns. Source: Facts.Net

    I loved this WW.
Our daughter slept thru the night the first night we were home. I stayed awake waiting
Even put a mirror to her nose once to be sure she was breathing…SHE WAS. After that night the next 6 weeks were sleepless in Raleigh
    Hugs x 4

Wow, that’s a lot of missed sleep. I don’t have any children, although my furbabies are my children and sometimes cause lack of sleep but not that much. Have a great rest of the week!

    • Sandee – California – Home of Awww Mondays, Happy Tuesday, and Wordless Wednesday.
      Sandee says:

Kitties can cause lack of sleep too. Children can really cause lack of sleep. Happy day and rest of the week, Yvonne. Hugs. 🙂

  9. Pam Jackson says:

So funny about new parents. You see, I was a heavy sleeper, head hit the pillow and out I went till time to get up. BUT, when I had my first child, something changed and it was not the child keeping me up. Amber was perfect, sleeping right through the night right off. Cory however, I lost the 750 hrs asleep with him, plus the 750 I would have lost with Amber. But, the change was I did not sleep so soundly then. I could hear my baby, in her crib, across the hall in another room, turn over! Then there were those nights all I wanted to do was sit by her bed watching her sleep.

    • Sandee – California – Home of Awww Mondays, Happy Tuesday, and Wordless Wednesday.
      Sandee says:

I think all us moms do pretty much the same thing. We can hear our babies when they turn over or make any sound. It’s the way of moms. Happy Wednesday and rest of the week. Big hug to you and lots of scritches to the kitties. ♥

Sandee, that is one experience that neither MaryEllen(she divorced me after 5 years of trying to have children) or Celestine (She did not want to have children because og her Type 1 diabetes she would have spent a lot of time hospitalized due the pregnancy ) and I experienced. Children was not in God’s plans for me.

I was pretty young when I had my kids and therefore I have no memory of the lost sleep days. I do remember as a mom you never stop worrying about them even when they’re parents themselves now. Thanks for sharing the facts, Sandee. Very interesting!

I remember clearly waking up the first time the baby sleeps thru, and then I go into a panic thinking ‘what if they died?’ and had to jump out of bed to check why they didn’t wake me up! Ha.

And then they become teens and keep you up all night because their body clocks are off and they want to sleep all day. Oh, well, maybe that’s what retirement is for, to sleep. Except you can’t sleep when you get old either.

Joking, of course, but not joking when I say I pray you and Mr. Zane have a beautiful week and get plenty of good rest. Scritches to Lil’ Bit and Squeaker.
