Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a 1964 stop motion Christmas animated television special produced by Videocraft International, Ltd. It first aired December 6, 1964, on the NBC television network in the United States and was sponsored by General Electric under the umbrella title of The General Electric Fantasy Hour. The special was based on the 1949 Johnny Marks song “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” which was itself based on the poem of the same name written in 1939 by Marks’s brother-in-law, Robert L. May. NBC will air the special annually starting in 2024, having previously done so until 1971. From 1972 to 2023, the special aired on CBS, which unveiled a high-definition, digitally remastered version of the program in 2005, re-scanned frame-by-frame from the original 35 mm film elements. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve seen this adorable Christmas movie. I remember watching it as a child and then with my children. I may have it on DVD but I’m not sure.

We love love love the “oldies” Christmas movies and have several of them – they never get “old” – and bring back wonderful memories. It’s the “kid” in us – nice to know that kid is still there!!!

I used to LOVE when these came on TV. I have the DVDs for a few of the claymations and I will break them out next week (when school’s out). Hard to believe it’s almost Christmas. It always comes so fast once Thanksgiving has passed.

I haven’t seen Rudolph for years, but I still own a Rudolph sweatshirt sold, I think in the 90’s, in Montgomery Ward. I love the Rudolph story and song. Alana ramblinwitham

Everyone from 1 to 100 loves this classic….thank you for highlighting it. I know there are many new and exciting books with interactive stuff…however, a classic like this gives children a path for their imagination.

Great choice for today Sandee as it is like a postcard outdoors here as the snowfalls. I enjoyed this although I have not seen it many times. When I was a child I had never heard of Rudolph ! Just didn’t exist in Germany or at least in the part where I lived. When I started to learn English I also met Rudolph !
