Wordless Wednesday

WW is a simple blog post featuring a photo which conveys a message that speaks for itself without using words.

For all the rule breakers, of which I am one, please feel free to add all the words you want.

Make sure you leave a link to your post and I’ll visit your Wordless Wednesday post.

Cleopatra – 1963

The famous flick starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton was originally supposed to film in England, but a winter storm destroyed the set, leading to it being rebuilt in Rome. The production team didn’t let it get them down—in fact, they used the opportunity to make it even grander. Johnny DeCuir was told to build the forum three times its size (apparently the real Roman Forum wasn’t impressive enough), and the undertaking was so massive, Italy reportedly almost ran out of building materials.

Where It Was Filmed: Cincecitta Studios in Rome

I can not recall if I have watched the entire movie. I have seen parts of it. And fantastic memorable scenes they were. I knew it was filmed in Rome but did not realize that the scale was as grand. It is always a delight to learn history and movie trivia. Thank you, Sandee.
Have a wonderful Wordless Wednesday! Cheers.

One of my aunts, who lived a couple of miles from us as I was growing up, took me to see the movie (I was, I think, 10) and I remember it being so intense to me (the colors, and how long it was) that I asked to leave and she took me home. I’ve never seen it since! Alana ramblinwitham

I also had an all-things-Egyptian phase as a teenager. Their history is still not totally uncovered. I had a hard time with Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra. Her voice was just a bit too little girly for me. However, she did look beautiful.

Mama loved the movie and mama dressed up all the time when little as Cleo herself! Mama also said once to her best friend who did NOT want to be Cleopatra, “Okay, I’ll be Cleopatra and you can be the maid.” They never forgot that one!!!! But did laugh over it as mama blushed….
