It’s Thankful Thursday hosted by Brian of Brian’s Home. He wants us to post what we’re thankful for.

I think it’s a good thing to do each week. Focus on the positive things in our lives.

I’m thankful that today is my birthday. I’m 71 years old and life is most sweet. Hubbies birthday was on the 5th and he’s 75 years old.
[metaslider id=”41579″] I met Zane many years ago when he was doing my background investigation in the 70s. He was a sergeant at the time. I was hired later that year and began my career as deputy sheriff in adult detention (Stanislaus County). He was promoted to lieutenant early in my career and would appear at the women’s jail and I drooled over him every time I saw him. He was married to someone else and so was I. Many years went by and I ended up being the first female sergeant to be transferred to the Men’s Jail. Zane was the Jail Commander. Some months later he asked me if I want to be his administrative sergeant and I jumped at the chance. It was a wonderful learning curve. After that assignment was over I worked programs for a couple of years and then back to the Men’s Jail. By this time Zane was a captain. The years marched on and Zane was promoted to Assistant Sheriff and I was eventually promoted to Lieutenant.

We’ve spent a great deal of our lives around each other and then one day we were together. We’re growing old together and it’s been a most fulfilling adventure. We are enjoying our retirement together. We are both lucky to have found each other. I’ve loved him most of my life. He didn’t know it, but I did.

      I never thought we’d be together. He is a very loyal person and would have stayed married to his first wife, but she kicked him out and that was that. He left. 🙂

    I remember many years ago my mother telling a few of my friends that the “advice” to women to never admit their true age was a bunch of b.s. 😁 And when they tried to argue with her, she simply said “having another birthday is better than the alternative.”
