Thankful Thursday

It’s Thankful Thursday hosted by Brian of Brian’s Home. He wants us to post what we’re thankful for.

I think it’s a good thing to do each week. Focus on the positive things in our lives.

Make sure you link up to the Blog Hop at Brian’s Home and get the code to put on your blog. Then visit all the participants.

I’m thankful that I started walking regularly last April. It was hit and miss and mostly miss during the winter months. I vowed to walk six days a week and have done that faithfully since. When it’s cold outside is when I would find excuses not to walk. I found I could walk in our home and stay warm. It’s working.

Today I’m thankful for my Fitbit. I got one the end of December to track my walks. It’s become a bit addictive as I set a goal on how many steps I want to do each day and I make sure I fulfill that goal each day. It’s also helped me eat more healthy. I’ve talked about the extra 20 pounds I was carrying around and am happy that I’m down 17.5 pounds. What a wonderful feeling it is. I’m just trying to be as healthy as I can.

The seven benefits from walking according to Insider are:

  1. Burn calories and lose weight
  2. Increase energy levels
  3. Boost immune system
  4. Ease pain
  5. Improve heart health
  6. Reduce stress, improve mood, and fight depression
  7. Extend life expectancy.

What are you thankful for today?

I always loved walking but have gotten away from it. I’ve always quit in the winter because it’s just too cold. I agree with that list of benefits. I really should get myself a fitbit again and get back into it.

I know you did. It’s hard to do in the winter and I found a way to keep warm and continue to walk. 🙂

I do too, but winter was my enemy. Once you quit it’s hard to get stated again. 🙂

We are so happy you are walking. It is the easiest exercise around and you can do it anytime anywhere. Good for you to get the routine going and even lose almost all the weight you would like to lose.

    Good for you!
I am thankful that the sunshine melts snow off the sidewalks, for those folks who didn’t shovel.
This way, I can continue to walk in the ‘hood without slipping!

the 8th thing that walking does is keep your brain healthy and fight off dementia. I have been walking daily or 5 years and doing range of motion excercises also. And for 25 years have always parked as far away from the buidings as I can. my mother and her sister were both in wheel chairs by age 55 because they never walked or even did housework. congrats on your weight loss.

I feel so much better, Ellen. It took a long time to see any difference, but I didn’t give up. Big difference now. My clothes aren’t tight anymore and I went from medium tees to small. My medium pants are now baggy. 🙂

Standing ovation Sandee!! Yay for you WOW. I’m a walker too. Thankful I have a recumbent indoor bike for cold windy icy days of winter or hot humid miserable days of the summer. Walking is as beneficial for out mind as your bodies

Congratulations on your weight loss success, Sandee! 👌 The Fitbit is a great tool, but I have certainly slacked off in recent months. “When it’s cold outside is when I would find excuses not to walk.” Me too! My house isn’t that big, but I bought a Cubii to help burn some calories. Thanks for the inspiration!

I was terrible when it got cold out. I checked out the first floor of our home and found a wonderful path to walk. Kitchen to dining room, dining room to living room, living room to great room and great room to the kitchen. Rinse and repeat. 🙂

Excellent reminders on the benefits of walking daily. It’s a fabulous, easy way to get your exercise. You don’t have to do heart dropping cardio to burn calories. Congratulations on dropping those pounds! I wish I could boost of such accomplishments but at least I’m striving for more stay on my feet activity than on my fanny. 🙂

Congratulations to you! That is one heck of an accomplishment! I bought Lenny and I imitation Fitbits that I have to set up….I desperately need to get moving and follow your lead. It’s so hard here with it being freezing out, but when you said you walk inside that’s encouraging. Even if I just marched in place it would help!

    • Sandee – California – Home of Awww Mondays, Happy Tuesday, and Wordless Wednesday.
      Sandee says:

Walking indoors has worked for me. I’m outside for my second walk of the day because it’s warm enough here, but in the morning it’s freezing. It starts with that first step and I complained for a couple of months and then I started looking forward to my walks. I’ve increased my time three times now. 🙂

Congratulations on your weight loss. I used to love walking, and apart from anything else must have walked for miles around our fields with Eric and Flynn, Unfortunately the cancer pills really messed up my bones and joints and I now have to use a cane. I can still walk but more slowly and need to keep taking a rest so it is not the same.

I walk 5 or 6 days a week. Winter isn’t bad here but the summer is a beast. The humidity is often in the high 90% range. Those days my walks are less than my usual 8,000 steps. It amazes me how much better I feel when I walk, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
