Heidelberg Castle is a ruin in Germany and landmark of Heidelberg. The castle ruins are among the most important Renaissance structures north of the Alps.
The castle has only been partially rebuilt since its demolition in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is located 80 metres (260 ft) up the northern part of the Königstuhl hillside, and thereby dominates the view of the old downtown. It is served by an intermediate station on the Heidelberger Bergbahn funicular railway that runs from Heidelberg’s Kornmarkt to the summit of the Königstuhl.
The earliest castle structure was built before 1214 and later expanded into two castles circa 1294; however, in 1537, a lightning bolt destroyed the upper castle. The present structures had been expanded by 1650, before damage by later wars and fires. In 1764, another lightning bolt caused a fire which destroyed some rebuilt sections. Source: Wikipedia
Beautiful night lights. Thank you for hosting and have a beautiful day.
I would love to explore this castle. 🙂
It looks beautiful all lit up. My first reaction was that it reminded me of when we sailed into Malta in the very early hours once. It looks nothing like Malta, but the lights brought back magical memories of seeing the old town lit up from the sea.
It’s beautiful and I’d love to see this in person. 🙂
What a nice capture looks lovely all lit up 🙂
Have a safetastic WWS & week 😷😷😷
Thanks for adding me Sandee 🙂
It does indeed. I’d love to be out on the water taking pictures of this castle. 🙂
WOW! That looks like an amazing place, Sandee. We’ve never been to Heidelberg, besides on picture 😉 but certainly will do and visit this place😸Clean Pawkisses for a Happy Wednesday. Stay Safe Healthy and Yourselfie🙏🐾😽💞
It sure does, Little Binky. I’ve not been there either and probably will never make it there, but I love to explore all the places that I can find right here on my computer. 🙂
Beautiful! We love castles.
Me too. They have such wonderful histories. 🙂
I have never been to Europe, but Germany is #2 on my list (after Italy). One day, perhaps. Those castles intrigue me.
I’ve not been to Europe either. I’ll never make it there now. We don’t fly anymore. 🙂
Yep, Mom has been there. It is a very cool town. She has a shirt that says she lost her heart in Heidelberg.
I’m sure it is. I love this shot and love castles. 🙂
Meowser Ms. Sandee that castle must have a lovely view of the river! Thank you for hosting this blog hop.
Purrseidon
Yes it does. You’re most welcome for the hosting. I love my memes. 🙂
We were in Heidelberg, so very long ago. It felt like fairy tale castles were coming to life as we toured such places, at least to me.
A blessed and beautiful Wednesday to you and Mr. Zane!
You’ve sure traveled a lot. We’ve not been to very many places. You have a blessed and beautiful Wednesday too, my friend. 🙂
Good to hear about the castles. Very interesting. Sandee, you and Zane have a super day.

Interesting facts about the castle.
Thanks for sharing dear Sandee. Have a safe and sunny week ahead.
Lots of love. <3
Yes indeed. They all have their histories for sure. Lots of love back, Natasha. 🙂
What a beautiful castle, and beautiful surroundings as well. I’m more of a country girl, but there is something about the lights of a city that attract me too!
I’m not a big city girl either. I hate the big cities. I’m more of a country girl too and we live in a very small town. Doesn’t even have a stop light it’s so small. Works for us. 🙂
That is beautiful, doesn’t look like a ruin. Thanks for hosting. Have a great day! XO
It’s doesn’t indeed. It’s beautiful. You have a great day too, Ellen. 🙂
This is why Benjamin Franklin invented lightning rods!
Yes it is. 🙂
Lightning really doesn’t seem to like that castle.
No it doesn’t. 🙂
It’s such a darn nice castle, I want one!
I couldn’t afford one, but I’d love to poke around this one. 🙂
Wow – the castle is just beautiful!
It is indeed, Miss Molly. 🙂
Wow, that’s breathtaking! I bet it’s even more so in person. How are you doing, Sandee? I hope you are safe and well. Thank you, as always, for hosting. Happy Wednesday!
I agree it would be fun to explore in person. We are safe and well. Happy Wednesday, my friend. 🙂

Oh my, what a beautiful place to cruise if possible. Have a great day Sandee.
Cruisin Paul
I’m sure you could cruise there without a problem. You know how I love boating on my boat. 🙂
Our mom would absolutely love to visit there. She is obsessed with castles.
I love castles too. I’ll go with her. 🙂
It doesn’t look like a ruin or partial ruin to me.
It’s been beat up more than once though. 🙂

Stunning and a little mysterious…thanks for

wow…what a beautiful castle! Hopefully soon we all can get in your boat….joking! Hopefully we all can be where we want to be very soon! xoxo
We’re not going to the boat until all this is lifted. I don’t want to be accused of doing what I want. Not worth it. Love you. 🙂
I visited Heidelberg Castle back in 1995, thanks for bringing back some wonderful memories of a beautiful place!
Lucky you. I want to go. So beautiful. 🙂
That is a beautiful castle. Mom is always amazed at all the beautiful castles and churches that were built throughout Europe many years ago without all the fancy equipment we have now.
Woos, Lightning and Timber
I’ve seen many of those in pictures but never in person. Scritches to the pups. 🙂
Beautiful
I thought so too, Regine. 🙂
Mom says, “That looks like a wonderful castle to tour. I’ve seen several in Europe but I haven’t yet traveled to Germany. Maybe someday. Thanks for sharing.” Winks.
I want to explore this castle. I want to go to Germany too. 🙂
Wonderful photo and history blurb… 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
You’re most welcome, Bette. Happy Wednesday. 🙂
Well isn’t that pretty. That would be a nice place to visit. I think I’ll have to settle for traveling from my computer chair though so I thank you for the mini vacation 🙂

Beautiful photo. My neighbor was telling me she should be in Italy right now. But here we are working in our yards. Enjoying the sunshine as least. HUGS
Many are missing vacations all over the world. We cancelled all our travel plans this year. I can’t imagine sleeping in a hotel room. No, just no. 🙂
Hello! Hello! Sorry I’m so late. We’ve been awfully busy today. We took a walk and hubby shampooed carpets today! So cool! Plus we opened all the windows and Charlie got to go outside today and then after all that we even laid down for a short nap too! WHEW! Anyway, that’s about it so hope you had a great day. Our house smells like outside… so fresh. I’m gonna sleep good tonight I’ll tell ya! You have a good evening too honey bunch! HUGS & SMOOCHES…. LUV YA!!!!!!!
I had a great day yesterday and I’m looking forward to another great day today. You do the same. Love you. 🙂
The castle is in the backdrop of our photos when we were in Heildelberg. Too bad we didn’t have the time to visit it.
Happy Friday, Sandee!
I would love to poke around this castle. So beautiful. 🙂
What a gorgeous night shot ~ beauty ^_^
Lots of hugs to you from me and Ms. Z

I would love to spend some time here. On land and on the water. Be well too, Carol. 🙂
Such an amazing place to visit. One of my favorite towns!
So many have visited here. I had no idea. Have a great day. 🙂
It’s a very charming place with some incredible pubs and bakeries.
I have been there. It is quite interesting and you can go into some of the restored parts of the castle.
I would love to do that, but I know I’ll never get on another airplane. 🙂
I love forts, palaces and castles. They are so strategically built and the architecture is so amazing. Thanks for sharing a trivia on the castle Sandee.
I would love to tour one. I love all those things too. 🙂
Great!!!
