Wednesdays Question

questionIt’s Wednesday so that means it’s question time. It’s time to ponder and then answer just one question. Okay, you can add all you want as a reason for your answer too. We’d all like that.

Here’s this weeks question: Do you go to several different grocery stores to take advantage of their sales?

I’ve a friend that will drive all over town to hit sales items. She never takes into consideration the cost of gasoline and the time it takes to hit all these different grocery stores. I go to one store. If there are sale items great, if there aren’t I’m shopping for what I need and I’m heading home.

Here is where hubby and I are different. I wont. One store and I get it all. I may skip something that is frequently on sale if it's not this week, but I can't be bothered to drive around. He would go to different store for each item if it was cheaper that way.

  2. Barb says:

I do Sam's Club for bulk staples, Publix for the wonderful weekly bogos that I actually use and some of the specialty stuff and finally, if I absolutely have to, Walmart to fill in. Oh. And I order some stuff from Amazon, like my coffee, because it's lots cheaper and I don't have to go get it. 😀

Have a wonderful day! big hugs xoxo

  3. Marg says:

I almost always go to the same store. It does cost gas money to run around plus I really don't want to go running around. One store sure works for me. Sandee, you and Zane and Little Bit have a great day.

  4. Jean R. says:

No I go to a huge grocery store where I know their stock turns over quickly. The only time a go to another one is when the roads are really bad in the winter and my needs are great, then I go to a smaller store closer to home. I rarely even look at the sales.

  5. LAC says:

"Ain't nobody got time for that". 🙂 Living in the fairly rural area that I do, the gas I'd waste just to get to different grocery stores would surely negate the savings. I frequent a handful of stores that I like, mostly depending on what town I am in when we decide its time for groceries. If I am at work its Wegmans. If I am on my way home its Weis, if I am already home and have to go out its Weis in a different town. But never GIANT, too expensive! I have also recently started going back to Aldi and LOVING the savings there. I have also started getting certain things delivered by Schwans. They are a bit pricey, but the convenience of having it delivered right to my door is great. Plus I am a lousy cook, and many of their meals are easy to prepare.

  6. DrillerAA09 says:

We prefer to get our meat from one source and the bulk of our other groceries from a different store, but we don't drive all over town looking for the best deal. It's like driving all over town to save three cents per gallon on gas. Even if you filled a 20 gallon tank, that's only a savings of 60 cents, and like you said, one probably spent 90 cents to get there.

  7. Paul Pietrangelo says:

Mary Lou does all the shopping and in a small town there are 4 grocery stores and they're all close to each other so it doesn't cost any extra money to go to them. She will price match at the stores and she does a great job with it. The only store that I help with it, is at Costco when we go to Windsor where I get most of the meat and other goodies. She laughs at the bill and says that when Paul goes with me, the bill is always higher then ever. Hey, I enjoy good things.
Have a fantastic Wednesday Sandee. See ya.

I am a one store girl. No running around searching for bargains. I pick up what we need, buy ahead on bargains offered wherever I am, then home. Done. Never thought of Amazon for coffee, but I will def check that out. I love free home delivery!

Big hugs from (finally) sunny Mayberry, honey…

  9. stevebethere says:

Yes there is several around here the thing is too one sells stuff that the other doesn't and vice versa so back and forth like a demented shopper =D>

Have a bargaintastic day Sandee :-h

  10. Empress Bee (of the high sea) says:

Roche' loves to hit all the stores and look for cute guys so I usually take him to keep the little rascal happy. Now he wants to meet Edward but I'm not ready for that yet. He could jump all over him knowing Roche'!

    smiles, bee

I don't go grocery shopping very often since my hubby does it but we mainly use just one store that's close to home. Occasionally if there's a really good sale we'll go to another one but they're all less than 3 miles apart so it's no big deal.

Happy Wednesday Sandee! Scritches to Little Bit!

  12. Marcia Shaw Wyatt says:

Time is usually too limited for me to shop at more than one store. Even if I did have more time, I doubt I'd grocery shop at more than 1 store. It's one of my least favorite chores! 🙂

Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday, Sandee! 😀

We live in the sticks and our local stores are "ok" for most items, but about once a month we drive up to Ashland Oregon to go to a store that has the type of fish and meats that are organic and not full of nasty antibiotics steroids etc. ( we do buy local meat at home from local growers when available ). At the same time we also buy hard goods such as Tp, soaps, shampoos and pet food that are horribly expensive in our town.
We combine that shopping trip with going to galleries, eating out and trying new brews at local microbreweries, it's a little vacation. Good question Sandee
BIG hugs and scritches to Little Bit!

  14. Lux G. says:

Not really as Sales means more people and I hate it when the grocery gets too crowded. But if the items are sold in very very very low prices, I can give it a go. 🙂

  15. Faythe M.A says:

I only go grocery shopping when needed & then it is usally to one of the 2 closest stores. If I am out for some other reason I may look at a combo dept. store like wal-mart. I hate wasting gas, ect 😛

Well, i'm blessed in that the three stores that i shop at are all in a row, and i drop Little Girl off by one of them each morning for school. So on the way back home, i hit them each for their specials, and no extra gas spent getting to them, they are all on the way.

My aunt used to run all over town to save 3 cents on a can of peas, and we couldn't convince her she was wasting time and gas.

  17. Catherine says:

Dear Sandee, I am sorry I have not been able to get online much this past week.
My brother went into cardiac arrest last week and it has been difficult getting around to comment. He is doing well now….getting better and stronger each day.
I hope you had a wonderful Easter. You have been in my thoughts…I hope you are well my dear friend. xo, Catherine

  18. Jim says:

Good question, Sandy. My mom would go to all three grocery stores in our town with a list she had made for each one. She would park in front of the one where she always bought the most and shop there first. They might have 'unadvertised specials' which were the other's sale items. Then she would walk the block or two and shop at the others.
Now there is only one grocery store on main street. The gas stations have 'quick' stores that sell popular items like milk, bread, and beer. The store that remained was Mom's favorite.
    😛
My answer for me matches yours. I will save something to stop at our County seat's stores but I don't drive out of my way to get anything.

Looks like the majority of us do the same. I'm just amazed at the time and expense my friend goes through every times she shops. It's a day trip if you will. 🙂

  19. Caren Gittleman says:

I sometimes go to a few different grocery stores but not always because of sales.
I go to Kroger the most, they sell the cat food that we feed Cody there and not many grocery stores do. They also sell Dakota's dental bones. They are also one of the lowest priced stores.

If I go to other stores it is sometimes because I am in the area for an appt near that store and will go, or they may carry something that the other stores don't.

I probably shop regularly at two different stores and every now and then a couple of others.

  20. Stephanie Faris says:

NO! In fact, I go to the more expensive grocery store in our area of town (Publix) because the cheaper grocery store is always so crowded and I'd rather have a relatively stress-free shopping experience and pay more!

    • Comedy Plus says:

That's how I feel too. I can't stand to go into Costco, so hubby does that. I love Raley's and it's probably more expensive than any other store. Stress free shopping for me too. In and out. 🙂

  21. Jennifer Humphries says:

I price match sometimes, but there are some times that the competitors quality isn't the same as the ad price, so to multiple stores I go. It is a hassle, but feeding my large brood means looking for many ways to save money.

    • Comedy Plus says:

Oh the carrot sale. Yes, I agree that some stores will do most anything to get you in. Saving when you have as many mouths to feed as you do is essential. 🙂

  22. Michelle F says:

My mom always planned out her grocery shopping very carefully.
There were 3 stores should would shop at, making the rounds carefully so cold items would be bought at the last store. That was very easy to do in her little town.

These days, hubby buys bulk groceries at SAM's on his way home from work.
I take one of our guys during the day to buy general items.
However, we always forget, or need, something.
So we usually make a daily event out of it.

    We so appreciate the condolences.!!

    • Comedy Plus says:

What a lovely remembrance of your mom. I miss my mother very much. She had one store she shopped at for years. It was 24 miles round trip so didn't go but about once a week.

You're most welcome about the condolences. 🙂
