It’s Wednesday so that means it’s question time. It’s time to ponder and then answer just one question. Okay, you can add all you want as a reason for your answer too. We’d all like that.
So here’s this weeks question: What is the best way to get readers to comment your blog posts?
Well, if they are going to comment then you need to visit them on a regular basis and comment on their posts. With some this still doesn’t work, but for the most part if you’re leaving meaningful comments on their blog posts most will eventually comment on your blog. Some folks don’t get that though.
Another way is to ask a question. I get more comments on my ‘Wednesdays Question’ posts than any other.
I love your Wednesday Question posts and I especially love your Fragments posts when you talk about yourself and your life!
Of course you know that I no longer blog but when I did I hated getting all of the many variations of "nice post" comments. Really? I'd rather they didn't comment at all. If that's all you have to say, just move along, darling. I think back then everyone actually thought they'd get rich by driving traffic to their blogs. Bless their hearts.

Sandee, you are so correct. To get more comments, you do need to go comment on other people's blogs. The title of the post does make a difference too. I just enjoy visiting other blogs and learning what is going on around the world. Sandee, you have a fantastic day and Zane and Little Bit too.

You are right, Sandee. The people who generally comment on my blog are the ones who I read and comment on. Twice in three years I made a direct appeal to get more people to comment and a few newbies did, but then it dropped right back off to the regulars again. I have not tried the a direct question like you do on Wednesdays but I really like the idea. It's fun to compare the answers you draw in on those days.
I love the Wednesdays Question. I saw this on another blog years ago but it was a Thursday Question. I just liked the idea. 🙂
I've tried but I still aren't able to keep a constant group of commentors like you & Bee get. I'm very happy & thank those that do once in awhile comment on my blog. It's nice to know that there are others around the world visit my blog. Thanks again Sandee for visiting my blog & commenting every day. It's important for my ego. Ha,ha,ha. I have been blogging since 2009, you have been blogging MUCH longer than I have been. Many, like you and I, "get" the social media etiquette…if someone comments to us, we return the kindness and subscribe/comment back…sadly, I cannot begin to tell you the enormous number of people who do NOT "get this" basic and most common courtesy. I seriously think that some feel above it all….that they are superior…….there is no rhyme or reason. I follow well over 200 blogs and leave comments on the vast majority of them, trust me, I don't get nearly the same number of comments back lol.
I follow about 100 blogs and visit and comment on new content for the most part. It's some work, but it's important to be a good friend to those you have in your world. 🙂
Sometimes I leave a "courtesy" comment, sometimes I don't have much to say and that doesn't mean I did not like a post. I like to let people know I stopped by, but if I say "Nice Post" it is because I thought it was a nice post.
Some posts just lend themselves to comments better than others. I follow about 100 blogs, and I read everyone…mostly, I do not follow blogs that are just not aimed at my interests even if that person follows me. I appreciate a follower but do not follow back to read about making bread…well some can make bread interesting but in general..you know.
Yes, I love all the pet blogs. I get to know and appreciate other peoples babies. I really enjoy that. Sometimes some blogs are not for me either. I get that. 🙂
Asking a question is the best way …..after being a "regular" on other's blogs and "following" blogs that truly interest you. . Have a super duper week!

I think visiting others is what works best (or requiring a comment on a giveaway form if you're one of 'those' bloggers, which I am, hahaha). 🙂

I think you are correct. I'm kind of hit and miss right now. Still a little unsettled after the move and can't quite get my blog rythum in sync. I'll get it figured out eventually. This could be a slow blogging year for me.
Moving is a big deal and you'll figure out what you want to do. If you don't blog often then that's what it will be. I do hope you do your Christmas videos though. You know how I look forward to that every year. 🙂

G+, Bloglovin, (and the list goes on…) became a headache to try to keep up with.
So, I'm making a list and adding it to my sidebar! d-)
An excellent idea. I use Feedly and that works for me. I know when someone posts new content and I don't need to do anything else. 🙂

Also, we need to give the reader something to comment about. Something to which the reader can relate or ask questions and opinions.

I'm with you and the majority, Sandee. Commenting on other blogs works best. I also try to end my posts with a question – but seldom do I ever get comments from non-bloggers. Great question and I'm enjoying reading all the replies here. 🙂

I've tried some blog traffic places and they do increase traffic, but, with very few wonderful examples, they don't necessarily increase people who like to visit your blog. Visiting and commenting on other blogs is important, but it's also important that the blog content is appreciated and the comment is more than a hello that avoids the topic.It's an iffy thing.
You can often tell if someone reads your post or not. Often people don't. I think they are just looking for a link. 🙂
Look, I love comments as much as any other blogger, but if it's just going to be a sales job or a trollish, agenda-driven comment, I can do without those. I can be secretive about my personal identity for security reasons, but I welcome all opinions, diverse or not, and often interact with fellow bloggers behind the scenes after I feel comfortable with them .I'm not the most automatically trusting soul on the Internet.
Yep, I'm with you on this. I delete a lot of comments and I check out the new ones very closely. If they have a nice site fine, if they are playing poker or selling something I delete their link. 🙂

I'm the wrong one to answer that question. I came back to blogging and only get a handful of comments. But that's ok, because I write for me. Not for validation. I do find for myself, I have limited time to read and commenting, clicking through windows, signing into different platforms to leave comments takes time. I read, and move along without commenting most days. I guess that's a bit rude to the writer. If its dear friends, I would hope they understand, and if its a post about something serious, important I tend to email or facebook them when I can give full undivided attention to the matter at hand.
You visit when you visit. You're a young mother, working full time and you have much to do. I so remember. 🙂

I totally agree with your answer. Asking questions is a good way to get people to comment but returning their visit is a must. I've quit following a few blogs because even though I visited and commented regularly on theirs they never returned the visit. I think that just sends the message that their readers aren't that important to them.
It's get tiresome after a bit doesn't it. If I visit you it seems logical that one would visit me. It does send a negative message indeed. 🙂
You are exactly right. If a reader takes the time to comment at your place, by all means answer back and visit them and comment at there blog. C-)

I'm with you, Sandee. d-) Got to have something they like to read first, then asking questions or causing them to relate really well helps to get them to want to comment.
Facebook and other entice some to quit blogging. A good relationship may keep the other person reading and commenting but most don't. So we have to get new readers too.
BTW, we have a mutual reader and blogging friend who has stopped posting, at least for a time. But she still comes to visit us. I like that. She is on Facebook. Quite of few of my FB friends were former blogging friends.

I agree with you Sandee & what Binky said too. I have a few exceptions to the rule though as there are several comic sites I really enjoy reading even though they never visit mine, but for the most part if I discover a new comic/blog after a handful of visits they don't respond then I usually don't bother anymore. I only have so much time like everyone so I focus on the sites that I can have more interaction with
You have to return the visit if you want folks to follow your posts. It's just that simple. I don't think some folks get this though. 🙂
I like comments and I like likes. The thing though is that comments will export but likes won’t so if you move or spinoff your blog, you get to keep all your comments but you lose your likes.
