It’s Wednesday so that means it’s question time. It’s time to ponder and then answer just one question. Okay, you can add all you want as a reason for your answer too. We’d all like that.
Here’s this weeks question: What role does honor play in today’s society?
Sometimes I wonder about this far too much. Honor should play a huge role in our society, but it seems it’s less and less important as time passes. Honor in your career, your marriage, yourself, and the military. Now the military is a dirty word in many places. The thugs are the heroes and the good guys are vilified. It’s frightening.
Sad to say honor is given an importance and attention less and less. I don't where it started or how. Is it the quality of movies/shows we show that influence the thinking? Wrong examples? I hope we can bring back the honor in every area of the society though.
It is less and less and it's not a good thing. 🙂
What role does honor play today? Sadly, a minor role. It seems to me that much of this country has either forgotten the fundamental values and beliefs this country was founded upon or the vast majority does not agree with them and has decided to toss them out and write a new rule book. Our founding fathers must be deeply disappointed.
But being the optimist that I am and someone who has faith in a mighty God, I do see a few men who are giving me cause to be hopeful… and one man who has already made me decide to vote for him.
Have yourself an awesome day, hon. xoxo
We do need to change from where we're heading to a better place. 🙂
It means a lot less today than it did back in the days. Its the lack of morals I think, which has played a part in the little or non existence of honor.
Morals is another issue isn't it. 🙂
I think there is very little honor left in our society. There is no respect at all, and you must have respect to have honor. I could say lots on this question, but will be silent because it would not be nice. What has happened to our country in the past 50 years? It is all just sad.
Respect is a good word to use. There is very little respect. 🙂
Unfortunately, honor gets forgotten when so many are just looking for "happy".
I hadn't thought of it like that but you're right. 🙂
We agree with everyone, that honor is not very important in this day and age. No one thinks about it any more which is a crying shame. We agree with Christine so much, all anyone can think about is 'happy'. Sandee, you have a most wonderful day along with Zane and Little Bit.
Happy or what they think they have coming to them, even if they didn't earn anything. 🙂
I also agree and yes it is frightening
Have a honourtastic day Sandee :-h
It is frightening Steve. 🙂
One has to look no further than the presidential campaigns to see that honor is a forgotten trait. Honor and integrity go hand in hand, but most of the candidates, Republican and Democrat, have sold their souls to the gods of power in pursuit of the office of President of the United States. They will say and do almost anything that moves them closer to that goal. They are not truly interested in serving the people of this great nation, but are interested only in acquiring the power that comes with the office.
In a world that is all about rights and entitlements instead of responsibilities and humility, honor and integrity have been trampled under foot. Unfortunately, you cannot legislate a humble heart, that can only come from the Creator of this universe and we have already legislated Him out of our society and determined Him to be almost completely irrelevant.
Amen
Spot on Driller. We need responsibilities, humility, honor and integrity. 🙂
Double AMEN. 🙂
well put! Thumbs up!
It is sad and scary. People are more concerned with Kim Kardashian than things of importance. xoxo
That's a tramp that I couldn't care less about and that no talent husband of hers either. 🙂
Kudos to Driller for saying how I also feel. Parents are not teaching their children respect at home, and those same entitled feeling kids are not receiving any discipline either. God has been pushed aside as well. It's a sad state of affairs…on many levels. We can only do what we can, where we can to take care of our own little piece of paradise. And pray a lot.
Big hugs across the miles, honey…
Yep, Driller nailed it. 🙂
I completely agree with you. Honor is fading away, but hopefully I have raised my girls to have honor and respect.
You've been a wonderful parent. Many aren't and that's a huge problem. 🙂
Yes, honor has lost it meaning in today's society. But it doesn't mean we should lose hope, we should do our part to keep honor in every area of our life as best as we can.
I have not given up hope. I'll never give up on hope. 🙂
If I just look at myself and those I love, I can say we all have honor—the old fashion kind where people live their values and always try to do the right thing for the right reasons. I think a lot of people can say the same about their families and friends. BUT in the media and government honor seems to be the exception instead of the rule. I don't know, though, if we're just hearing about more scandal and hypocrisy now than in the past decades or if there really is more. Either way, it's not a good thing. Society needs its heroes and they are getting harder and harder to find.
Respect and responsibility. Perhaps that's a better question. 🙂
In to-day's world, Honor is getting more and more diluted. The degradation of the society is contributed by each one of us, as values are not given importance and making fast-buck is the order of the day. Ironically, as in the case of other commodities, Honor also has a price tag today.
Have a great day!
I'm not crazy about the dilution either. 🙂
So many things are different in today's society and unfortunately one of those things is honor. People are so influenced by social media that it's scary to think of what's going to happen after another generation grows up in today's internet world. I do hope things change one day. We need a wake up call for so many!
Happy Wednesday Sandee! Scritches to Little Bit!
Oh boy, I hadn't thought about the next generation. 🙂
The police and the military may have a few bad apples in their ranks, but they're still tops in my book. God bless them all for the work that they do.
God bless them all indeed. 🙂
I've had this discussion with hubby. It is becoming less and less of a code to live by. It's sad.
I think this is being discussed in many households, and that's a good thing. 🙂
Honour, sadly, seems to be paying less and less significance in its roll in almost anything today.
It's a shame too Linda. 🙂
It seems to me that honor is almost dead! General Douglas MacArthur in his departing speech uttered the phrase "Duty, Honor and Country"! Now all three are in danger including "Country"! Pride in what use to be American exceptionalism is discouraged by academics and those in the current administration. Nationalism is seen as divisive and almost evil. Honor is something just to be read about in books—that is until the mere word itself is scrubbed by history revisionist!
Yep, this group has set us back decades. What a shame. 🙂
Honor and integrity and duty were a very high priority in the patrician class in ancient Rome. We see what happened when such evaporated in their society.
Yes we did see what happened. 🙂
When I look at what passes for "leaders" in Washington DC I can only say "There is no honor amongst thieves"
However, I see honor in the ordinary citizen who works for a living, pays his or her taxes and raises their children to be honest and forthright. I see honor in our military, our police and firefighters and our teachers.
Great question Sandee!
There are many that do the right things, but oh so many that won't and they could. 🙂
If honor even has a role any more it's a very small one. I think these days it's all about entitlement.
In many places it is about entitlements. It's a shame. 🙂
Honor should make us keep our word, try our best, and do what we know is right. These days, no one seems to pay much attention to these things.
We do honey, we do. 🙂
Mimi- spot on! There are still those who do their best.
Honor, what the hell is that? The young children today have no idea what that word means today mainly because adults have lost what it means. The politicians of today have no honor we unfortunately are left with the results. I was brought up with honor and respect. Dear God, where is it?
Have a honorable day my good friend Sandee. See ya.
Cruisin Paul
If we don't teach our kids then they will never know. 🙂
Not much it seems. It's more do-whatever-you-can-get-away-with these days.
And depending on who you are depends on how much you can get away with. 🙂
It's a lost human trait.
For many it is lost Odie. 🙂
I think the majority of people do respect and embrace the important things, but the others are more widely publicized (or they're more noisy). I could just be naive though… it's not a new trait to be tacked on me.
You've a valid point here. I hadn't thought of it in those terms. 🙂
