I’ll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it’s going to be impossible to buy a week’s groceries for $10.00.
Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won’t be long before $1,000.00 will only buy a used one.
If cigarettes keep going up in price, I’m going to quit; 20 cents a pack is ridiculous.
Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging 7 cents just to mail a letter.
If they raise the minimum wage to $1.00, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store.
When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost more than 20 cents a gallon. Guess we’d be better off leaving the car in the garage.
I’m afraid to send my kids to the movies any more. Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying DAMN in GONE WITH THE WIND, it seems every new movie has either HELL or DAMN in it.
I read the other day where some scientist thinks it’s possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the century. They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas.
Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $50,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn’t surprise me if someday they’ll be making more than the President.
I never thought I’d see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They’re even making electric typewriters now.
It’s too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see where a few married women are having to work to make ends meet.
It won’t be long before young couples are going to have to hire someone to watch their kids so they can both work.
I’m afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to a whole lot of foreign business.
Thank goodness I won’t live to see the day when the Government takes half our income in taxes. I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to government.
The fast food restaurant is convenient for a quick meal, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.
There is no sense going on short trips anymore for a weekend. It costs nearly $2.00 a night to stay in a motel.
No one can afford to be sick anymore. At $15.00 a day in the hospital, it’s too rich for my blood.
If they think I’ll pay 30 cents for a haircut, forget it.

Its 2016 now and prices are going sky high. Over here, it is almost impossible for an average income person to buy a house.

It's probably not changed as much as we think. Our pay is way higher so the cost of things are higher. Supply and demand. 🙂

Unbelievable but true. Today we live in an crazy, expensive world but I'm afraid the cost will only go up.
Example : Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $50,000 a year just to play ball? Today there are two baseball pitchers that are paid over $200 million. Isn't it crazy?

I wish I lived in 1955 sometimes. I know every era has it's own particular difficulties, but raising a family right now seems harder than ever! I wish my groceries cost $10.00 a week!
It was a simpler time. It was a very different time too. Some good and some not so good. 🙂
That was a simpler time which would be nice, but then we wouldn't all be in touch without computers.

Lots true, except after he writes a book and makes a few speeches, the President still makes more than any ballplayer.
Politicians shouldn't be paid very much either. Just saying. 🙂
I recall those days. The first year I taught school, my annual pay was $3,600 and that was in 1966. In other words $300 per month. However you could by a small new car for $2,000 and a gallon of gasoline for under $.30 cents!
It was all relative wasn't it. Yes it was. 🙂

Try to imagine people in 2076 laughing at what we now think outrageous.
When we gripe about $7.00 for a pack of cigarettes, I would wager that possession of a single cigarette in 2076 will get you the death penalty.

those were the days my friend! But then as a teenager I was making .50 cents an hour to baby sit! Or .75 cents to work at the local drugstore!
I so remember not making very much babysitting. I did a lot of babysitting though. 🙂
Those seemed to touch all the bases. I remember triple features for 13 cents and popcorn for a nickel, but I have no idea what my dad's salary was
I know my father wasn't happy about what things cost back then. 🙂

I love these sorts of posts! It's fascinating how things were back then and how different and outrageously expensive things are now! I actually remember when gas was under $1 and my parents were mad about how expensive it was… LOL
I can remember when gas was 19¢ a gallon. I was just a kid but I remember. 🙂
Change the amount and so many of these are still relevant in 2016. Ouch!

oh my, $15 a day for a hospital stay. My daughter just got a bill for an emergency room visit and it was over $1500
I can remember my parents working the fields for not much per day. They would have had to work days to pay for just one day. 🙂
WOW… that is CRAZY!!!! It really makes you think!!!!!! I remember going to the local store and hitting up the penny candy counter. And we got GOOD candy!
Yes, it was amazing what you could by for very little. Our parents still complained about the prices though. 🙂

I wasn't born then, but I've seen many changes in my own life that mirror these statements. What we pay for our cell phones is akin to highway robbery considering it's something we got along without for so long, but now can't do without.
I don't have a cell phone and I sure don't miss having one either. 🙂
I'm too used to mine now to give it up. It's like having a computer in my hands. Barring an attack on the electrical grid, I'm one with Penelope Jr.
I get that. Had a friend that held out for years not having a cell phone and now she has one and is hooked. 🙂

Wow! These people didn't have a clue, did they! I remember in 1973, we got a smaller car because gas was going up to 30 cents a gallon!!
