Whose business is it, if I choose to read, or play on the computer, until 4 AM, or sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 50’s, 60’s & 70’s, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love, I will.
I will walk the beach, in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves, with abandon, if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set. They, too, will get old.
I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And, eventually, I remember the important things.
Sure, over the years, my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break, when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody’s beloved pet dies? But broken hearts are what give us strength, and understanding, and compassion. A heart never broken, is pristine, and sterile, and will never know the joy of being imperfect.
I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.
As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don’t question myself anymore. I’ve even earned the right to be wrong.
So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be.
And I shall eat dessert every single day (if I feel like it).
What are you thankful for today?

Being old has set you free. Not everyone gets that status or state of mind. You are blessed.
Have a great day!
Yes I am. I love that I've lived as long as I have. 🙂
I'm thankful just for still being here. Lately many of my friends and former people I went to school with have started to pass away and I'm still here. Thank you God for allowing me to see another day and being able to enjoy the love of my life, my wife. How much longer, I'm not sure but I'm going to enjoy each day.
Have an enjoyable Thursday Sandee & Zane. See ya.
Cruisin Paul
I hear you Paul. Same thing is happening here. It's the circle of life. we'll enjoy every moment we are given. 🙂
The best bumper sticker I've ever seen:
Growing old isn't for sissies.
And it's not either. I know. 🙂
I need to think more along those lines 😉
We are thankful for all of the kindness shown to Dakota on his birthday this week, and you were one of those people! We love you! xoxo DakotasDen
I love both of your babies and you too. 🙂
Wise words. I have laughed lots! 🙂
Happy almost Friday Sandee!
Very wise words. Happy almost Friday to you too. 🙂
I'm with you on your wonderful attitude about aging. To paraphrase T.S. Eliot… We grow old… we grow old… we shall wear our trousers rolled.
Today I'm grateful for my family's safe return from their long weekend trip to Cape Cod and grateful that my knee is improving.
I'm so happy your knee is better, now if you can get some sleep. 🙂
Love it especially the forgetful bit
Have a thankfultastic day Sandee :-h
Somethings are worth forgetting aren't they. 🙂
Such wonderful wisdom. We need to live this way every single day. Great encouragement.
Big hugs, honey…
We already do honey. Both of us. 🙂
That was a wonderful post. I am thankful to still wake up every morning, thankful for getting to Skype with my grandchildren every day, thankful for my new flip flops, and really thankful that warm weather is on its way.
It was sent to me by one of my boating buddies and it just fit. 🙂
Such beautiful words! I am thankful for my family. Without them I would not be the person I am today. Have a wonderful day. Big hugs!!
Lydia
You have your hands full, but you're a very lucky gal. 🙂
Yes mam! Very wise words indeed. I especially like the part about dessert every day. You are my hero 🙂
Life is short, live it to its fullest. 🙂
Yes, age does have it's advantages but I could do without the aches and pains…lol
I've got a few of those aches and pains, but others have so much more to deal with. I'll take my few aches and pains. 🙂
And I shall eat dessert every single day (if my wife lets me).
Well, you can sneak the dessert right? Sure you can. 🙂
I have always known I was old way before my time. I've never turned a dessert down. 🙂
I used to have a cartoon hanging on our fridge. It was of an elderly lady, and it said something along the lines of "I'm not going to grow old gracefully. I'm going to be wrinkled, carrying a few extra pounds, and sliding into my grave yelling Woohoo! That was quite a ride!" Reminds me of you. 🙂 It's how I'm going to be, too.
You go girl. It's the only way. 🙂
It's a blessing just to be here!
Amen to that. 🙂
That's growing old gracefully.
When I was a teen, and my mom in her 40's, I used to think she was so old. Now, I think, hey, I'm not that old. LOL.
Yep, funny how our perspective changes as we get older. 🙂
I've earned my age and wisdom. Like you I'm thankful for my age. Remind me the next time I groan. Lol
We have eared many things and those are two of them. As for the aches and pains? Well, we don't care for those so much. 🙂
I am thankful for the time in which I have lived. I believe that my parents were indeed the greatest generation and the result was that my generation will have lived during the "Golden Age" of America. The cars of our youth were the most fun. Everyone wants a '57 Chevy or '65 Mustang. 40 years from now, who's going to want a 2014 Prius? Our high schools experiences were the best. No closed campuses, no lock downs, no mass shootings, just "Happy Days". We played little league baseball with our friends. We didn't have travel ball, travel soccer, travel volleyball so that we looked like professional teams. We had all the competition we needed withing 10 miles of us. Most of us grew up with a one car family. If we had a second car it was several years old and turning sixteen was not the right of passage to a brand new set of wheels. I am ever grateful for the life that I have been given and the time that I was given to live in. Thank you Lord.
We were fortunate weren't we. So much anger out there now. So much hate. So much division. Much of it from our government. 🙂
I would like to get old in a younger body.
Wouldn't we all Binky. 🙂
Very cheerful post! I am thankful for family and friends and weekends. 🙂
Thanks Allison. Enjoy the weekend. 🙂
I may not do much dancing any more but I still love the 50's 60's and 70's even some 80's music. g-) :-f :-* 😀
Me either, but I still love all that music. 🙂
