The largest building in the world is the Boeing building in Washington state. It is used to assemble planes, and is so large that Disneyland could fit inside.

Almost half the population of Hong Kong lives in an apartment that is on the 15th floor or higher.

The coldest inhabited place on earth is Oymyakon, Russia. Cars will not start once turned off and glasses will freeze to your face!

Contrary to what many people think, the earth is the closest to the sun in the middle of winter. It is not the distance, but the tilt of the earth that causes the temperature changes of the seasons. Credit: Impressive Facts

How many live above the 15th floor!?!?
Bet there’s a LONG queue at the lift!
    Loves and licky kisses

A very long queue for the lift. It’s bad enough in a high rise hotel. I wouldn’t want to live there. Loves and licky kisses back. 🙂

Oymyakon, located on the northeastern part of Siberia, is known as the coldest place in the world. Situated 750 meters above sea level, Oymyakon has a population of 500 people. The average temperature in the winter falls to approximately -58 degrees Celsius. I had to look. 🙂

  2. Ann Thompson says:

Iteresting facts. I now know that I could never live in Oymyakon, Russia. I don’t think I would like Hong Kong either. I would be one of the ones who lived on the 15th floor or higher.

    • Sandee says:

I’m not going to visit there either. I wonder what the temperatures are in the summer.

I googled summer temps and this is what I found:

Although winters in Oymyakon are long and excessively cold, summers are mild to warm, sometimes hot. The warmest month on record is July 2010 with an average temperature of +14.7 °C (58.5 °F). In June, July and August temperatures over 30 °C (86 °F) are not rare during the day. 🙂

  3. Madison says:

How weird that so many people live way up high in the buildings. We would not like that at all. We know a lot about cold as some days cars won’t start here from the cold and faces freeze in 5 – 10 minutes, BUT, that is only now and then.

    • Sandee says:

Over populations and the big city where every square inch needs to be utilized. I don’t want to be anywhere my car might not start due to the cold. 🙂

  4. messymimi's meanderings says:

My guess is that Antarctica doesn’t count as “inhabited” since it’s only a science station or two down there. And yes, it’s winter up here when earth is closest to the Sun, but summer Down Under, and they’ve had the heat wave this year to prove it.

Hope you and Mr. Zane have a wonderful Tuesday!

    • Sandee says:

Yes, the heatwave was huge this year. I don’t want that here this coming summer. Not fun at all. You and Mr. Sweetie have a wonderful Tuesday too. 🙂

    • Sandee says:

I would settle for 70s degrees. I’m tired of being all bundled up. You have a nice day too, Marg. Scritches to all your kitties and Smoke and Joe. 🙂

  5. Jen says:

I watched a documentary about homes and living in Hong Kong last week, and it was fascinating how people live. And also, I will never live in that part of Russia!

  6. Jan K says:

It’s nice to hear there’s someplace that much colder than it has been here lately. I’ll have to remember that next time I’m whining about the cold (but I still can’t wait for spring to get here). 🙂

  7. World Of Animals, Inc. says:

Happy Tuesday everyone. We just loved the interesting facts you shared. We are amazed by the half the population of Hong Kong lives in an apartment that is on the 15th floor or higher. Thanks for the share. Have a wonderful rest of your day.

    Happy Tuesday Sandee
I had no idea Boeing building is the largest building in the world. OMG in Oymyakon, Russia glasses will freeze on your face! Wow
    Have a great week Sandee

    • Sandee says:

Siberia is a cold place, but it’s get pretty warm in the summer. Really big weather swings. Have a great week too, Mary. 🙂

    • Sandee says:

I would guess it would be very difficult to keep things working in very cold places. I’ll pass. Happy day and a hug back. 🙂

  9. lisa says:

Those are very interesting factoids! Can you imagine how much gas those cars in Russia use if they can never be shut off? Not to mention all the exhaust fumes all. the. time?! Made they are electric?

  10. Jeanna says:

My car can attest to what happens when you turn it off without a good battery and it’s -48˚.
Glasses are crazy in cold weather of any kind but I believe it about freezing to skin. I am always afraid to lick my teeth.

    • Sandee says:

Wow, that’s mighty cold. I could be just fine with the temperature never getting below 70. I’m a fair weather kind of gal. 🙂
