Why English is so hard to learn…
1 – The insurance was invalid for the invalid in his hospital bed.
2 – There was a row among the oarsmen about who would row.
3 – They were too close to the door to close it.
4 – The buck does funny things when the does(females) are present.
5 – A seamstress and a sewer fell down into the sewer line.
6 – To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.
7 – The wind was too strong to wind the sail around the mast.
8 – Upon seeing the tear in her painting she shed a tear.
9 – I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.
10 – How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

Now I am getting confused! Lol!
We all are, Nancy. It’s all good. 🙂
Heeheehee! It does take a lot of getting used to, doesn’t it?
And isn’t it funny how we can so easily read through those without having to think about which pronounciation is needed.
I know and we do it all the time without evening thinking about it. 🙂
Yup, the English language is very strange sometimes. But sometimes good to laugh at, and we had a good giggle here. Sandee, you and Zane have a most wonderful day.
Yes it is, but it’s all we have. You have a most wonderful day too, Marg. 🙂
I had to really think about a few of those!
Yes, that’s what makes these so fun. 🙂
It’s amazing how the brain knows what is meant immediately, but not so if you are not a native speaker I’m sure!
It is amazing. You just have to get the brain to know the differences. 🙂
We take English for granted, but when you see it in sentences like those it is no wonder that other countries have trouble learning it.
Some do and it’s very frustrating. 🙂
Oh how true, no wonder so many have a difficult time!
I agree, some folks never seem to grasp the nuances of English. 🙂
Sandee,
These are tricky to read even when you know English. lol Now my brain is all knotted up. Let me get another cup of coffee, please. Thanks for hosting the fun!
I’m sorry that I knotted up your brain. You’re smart though. We all know that. 🙂
Fun word plays. Have a great day 🙂
Yes indeed, Ellen. You have a great day too. 🙂
OH MY WORD….makes me truly thankful English is my 1st (and only) language.
Hugs Cecilia
I’m with you on this, Cecilia. Hugs back. 🙂
Yes, English is hard. Meow is much easier.
Meow is far easier and way more fun too. Thanks for weighing in, Lola. 🙂
But it’s so much fun to play with words!
I agree with you there. It is fun. 🙂
These are definitely tricky! I need more coffee! 🙂
Very tricky. Most of us figure it out though. 🙂
Isn’t that the way with insurance companies? LOL
Have a great day, Sandee!! ((Hugs))
Yes it is, Michelle. Happy day my friend. 🙂
I thought I knew what English was but after that I’m not sure. I remember trying to teach this to children and it was very confusing to them. It confused me. Thanks Sandee for howing me the confusing English that I taught and still is being taught in the schools today. See ya.
Cruisin Paul
It is confusing. It times time to figure out the differences. I’m glad we did, Paul. Have a great day. 🙂
So true! And I did get a tear in a beloved print. 🙁 It fell off the wall and landed on a pyramid shaped decoration, the tip of which ripped through the back. Be well!
You be well too, Darla. 🙂
These are brilliant, I love things like this – yes, the English language is as fascinating as it is odd sometimes!
Have a lovely week 🙂
xx
I can remember my early years. I did have issues with the proper uses of words. I finally got it though. 🙂
All that plus they expect you to be able to spell…no wonder I had trouble in school.
I have more issues with spelling than understand the words. Oh well. 🙂
So I still have my dog at the bottom, but really you must admit he is a hoot! It’s freezing cold here and there’s a weather warning of really bad ice on streets. The salt trucks have been up and down our block a few times probably because I live across the street from a park & the other side of the park is a school. Many cars park in the park’s parking lot to pick up their children that’s probably why. Me… I’m staying home all day! I’m no fool! ~hehehe~ You’re probably warm as toast right? Oh well some of us are really lucky… BIG HUGS & HAVE A GREAT DAY… Who luvs ya baby!!!! HUGS
I love the dog and I don’t care if you link to all my hops. You’ve a happy post today and that’s all you need. Love you and have a great day too. 🙂
Happy Tuesday to you too. We just love the play with words that you shared. We hope you have a great rest of your week. Now going to shovel the snow and ice away. We wish spring was here.
Shoveling snow doesn’t sound like fun at all. I’m glad we don’t have to do that. Happy Tuesday. 🙂
Great examples of the perils of our language. Mom spent some time yesterday working with the twins on their “editing” homework. They have to correct sentences with all kinds of errors, including punctuation, spelling, and those tricky words like to-too-two, principle-principal, wait-weight, and on and on. Maybe someone needs to revise English to make it easier.
Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber
It can be very difficult. I did fairly well with English. Now math is another story. 🙂
MOL we’re are so confused or foncused right now! MOL English is tough!
Thanks fur hosting and sorry we haven’t joined in fur a while! XOX
Me too, not to worry, Basil. English is tough. Glad to see you back. You’ve been missed.
Happy Tuesday!
Here’s a funny for you…
Forecast for mothers to be…
Showers expected. <3
That’s a good one too. I’ve got a buddy that does a lot of word play posts. Love them. 🙂
Ha! It is so hard if you think about it. I have ESOL students and I can’t even imagine how hard it must be for them , especially when their family doesn’t speak English at all.
Tough for sure. We have a lot of that here too. I guess it’s pretty much everywhere anymore. 🙂
{snicker} English really IS hard to learn!
I so remember. Many struggle though. Happy Day. 🙂
Hi Sandee, it makes me wonder how I mastered English at all… Saying that though I did find myself getting slightly tongue-tied saying them out loud.
xx
I did pretty well with English, but there was a huge learning curve to get there. 🙂
I had to read them multiple times to get it! Wowza we do make it hard!!
Yes we do and some of us get it and some never do. 🙂
cracking up. I love those English flip flops. That would have been great to share with my students when I was teaching English in Japan decades ago.
I love these same words that are pronounced differently and mean something else. Very confusing indeed. Happy weekend. 🙂
